You know it's a miracle to have lived his life, it's another miracle to be able to remember and recall with the clarity he has, the events of that life, and it's yet another miracle that through this medium it gets to be shared with the rest of us. Record this man every day and put those tapes in the Library of Congress for people to listen to forever.

God, I love listening to this man speak. the knowledge and compassion blows me away. To see him choke up about that Pete Seeger performance hits close to home. I have had the privilege to see hundreds of great shows, lots of them I may not have attended had my sister not been in the box office. If one song moved me, whether the artist, the crowd, or both, it was worth getting out, and making the show. Last year my wife and I saw Marty Stuart and his FS, and they played Tomahawk, I had never heard it, I was 5th row, in front of Kenny, and was just floored by the musicianship! Saw them a couple of weeks ago and they were tight as ever. Music is the great common denominator, a shared thing, and that's what makes it such a mystical thing. More Jim Rooney stories please! Have a great weekend.

Jerry Jeff Walker holds such a special place in my heart. When his album with "LA Freeway" came out it was the sound track to my besties and me summer of turning 18, such good times. She died young but I always play that song when I want to really feel her (I prefer Guy Clark's version but JJW version cranked up is pretty perfect)

Thank you both, the history you are providing is to keep meaning vital. “Just as someday, if you have something to offer, someone will learn something from you. It's a beautiful reciprocal arrangement. And it isn't education. It's history. It's poetry.” J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye ☮

Two stories: 1: We were in Belize and saw Jerry in a restaurant when he had a house there. 2: My wife is a fly fisher. I ordered a CD from Amos and with the check I included her take on a wooly bugger ( a fly fishing fly) for him. We got the CD and a response that it freaked them out when they opened the envelope and saw that ugly bug! I hope Amos caught one fish with it.

8:29 --- I presume that it's the Tønder Festival, which is still running. Pete Seeger's appearance was in 1990. If Mr Rooney chokes up, after all these years, why can't we.

Hard to believe it's been over 50 years since I was stationed at Bergstrom AFB in Austin. Jerry Jeff, Asleep at the Wheel, Willie, Waylon, all of them. Armadillo World Headquarters. Hippy hollow skinny dipping. Oh, and the girls! It's true! Those girls standing up beat the others laying down. It's a shame they've Californiaed our Austin. Ha! I've still got it all on eight tracks and cassettes.
