Originally done in 1951 by a guy called Calvin Boze, this song went on to be covered by many others including Gene Vincent, Little Richard and Buddy Holly. Jerry Lee brings it 100% back to its blues/R&B roots with this jam session version.

It’s a good thing when Jerry Lee Lewis can take a song made famous by Little Richard and make it all his. It took talent to change it into a blues shuffle and make it so mighty fine. I also like how Kenny Lovelace swings that fiddle. I wish Jerry Lee Lewis’ favorite label Mercury Records had put it out there when he was still alive and well and rocking the piano.

Don't know what this particular style is called, but I love it. I can imagine Jerry Lee and Little Richard giving a heavenly performance of this song in Heaven. I love the photo...looks like an old church piano he's hammering on while giving the cafeteria-style chair a kick with his cool cat black and white shoes. Classic JLL.

@Johnny NotEnglish After word of Jerry's marriage got out, it suddenly became impossible to get any of his new Sun releases. I was 14 and had to send away to a place called Select-O-Hits in Memphis to get any of his records. It's possible most of the Sun material has been released, but what about outtakes from Smash, Electra, etc?
@baileyellard1 Жыл бұрын
@Johnny NotEnglish Jerry's fan club president mentioned it to me when I told her I was having trouble finding Jerry's records. I just googled it and was surprised to find it still exists...a giant music distributor in Memphis. It was certainly a life saver when I was a kid and couldn't find any of Jerry's releases back in the early sixties. Don't know what it's like now.

Buddy Holly was the first to record this but Jerry does an amazing job as if it's his very own - which of course it is. What a shame there's so much unreleased material that could be opened up.
