I remember seeing JLL on Wogan in the early eighties in what assume must have been this broadcast. What I particularly remember was how embarassing the interview was. He seemed completely out of it, mumbling and incoherent. Wogan, who I know was a big fan, seemed to have no idea how to deal with him. At the time I thought he was completely wrecked; I now suspect he was probably a very sick man on medication. So to hear these performances leaves me gobsmacked. Can anyone confirm that the rehearsal and the interview were from the same broadcast? In any case it’s amazing stuff. Thanks for posting!

He was maybe poppin' a lot of pills at this period of his life. I remember reading something about while they recorded Class Of '55 album with Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee doing a hand stand in the studio and all kinds of pills spilling from his coat pockets all over the floor.
