Thee most UNDER-RATED entertainer in the history of show business. Singer/songwriter extraordinaire, arguably the greatest Country guitar picker of all-time (and yes, he could put Glen Campbell in the soup line) produce, actor, comedian, personality... He's on another level then everyone else.
@billlawrence18994 жыл бұрын
Totally agree except for one thing. Neither he nor anyone else could put Glen in the soup line. They were great friends and had utmost respect for each others talent and ability. They both occupied a place in the music universe few have ever visited. Eric Clapton called Glen the world's best guitarist. Eddie Van Halen approached him about lessons. Merle Haggard said he was the most talented musician he ever met. No, no one put Glen in the soup line. And remember, Glen usually worked his miracles on a 12 string guitar. Glen, Jerry, Chet, Roy. We will never see their like again.
@odtuckero79994 жыл бұрын
Bill Lawrence what he said ^. Both performers were truly one of a kind, but Glen Campbell could do things with a guitar than few could ever come close to.
@billschwinn18344 жыл бұрын
Both were excellent but Jerry did a lot of other things Glenn didn’t, like write music prolifically for himself and many famous artists. He even wrote for Glenn. Love them both!
@nicolecassio4854 жыл бұрын
@@billschwinn1834Yeah Jerry was something else, but Glen was never destined for no soup line. They were both equally awesome in their own right, along with Chet and Roy... True God given talent. For us to appreciate, and speaking for myself, I love watching those guys do their thing. Good stuff. Real good stufffff
@adamr92153 жыл бұрын
@@billlawrence1899 Glenn was an excellent guitarist, but not anywhere near Jerry. Jerry was the best guitarist this world has ever known, bar none. He wrote dozens of songs that Chet had to simplify to record himself.

Maybe his covers of other songs where better than the originals but certainly not this one. He changed the tune and changed it in a way that just didn't work. And the guitar work was not as good as the original either.

Long live the beautiful songs, guitar licks, humor and the great heart and soul of this awesome gentleman. Years ago when I bought one of his albums I fell in love with the song "Today Is Mine". Along the way in my life I no longer had the album but could hear him singing this special song. I could recall the tune but could not remember the name of the song. One day sitting in front of my computer I turned to KZbin and stared just looking for his titles. Well there it was and when I played this song all those wonderful times I had enjoyed it came back. It is still one of my all time favorites and I still love the voice and soul that recorded it.

I got to hire Jerry to play at an event I ran back in 2000. I was able to spend time with him and he played the show to my mother, who attended. He had family in Indiana, and I was able to set up a room for them all to gather. At the end of the evening, a bellman couldn't be found, and I helped him carry out his luggage, just the two of us. I was able to spend several minutes alone with him. I spoke with him about music and pleasantries, and expressed my deep appreciation. Before he got on the bus, he took me by the shoulders, looked me in the eye and said, "You a good girl." He hugged me, got on the bus, and was gone. It was one of the best compliments I ever received. He's like a favorite uncle whose house you'd visit to barbeque chicken and drink beer. A very sharp and talented uncle.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful, wonderful, recording with us. We don't often get to hear these types of tunes from him. Jerry indeed had a beautiful voice . . . . but then there were many other singers who also did. However, there were few, if any, who could write and do songs like "When You're Hot, You're Hot" like he did. I guess Jerry had to make a living and provide for his lovely family. But what a talented singer and top level guitarist. I'm glad we have all these things on KZbin to remember him by. Not bad for a man who spent a large amount of his childhood in foster homes and orphanages.
