This was our game of the week on Channel four here in the UK I remember it like it was yesterday that Bears front 7 was terrifying. Can't believe it's practically 40 years ago, , HB, FB, RB were king not expendable, the strike zone was the whole body , a good PK range was about 40 YDS, how the game has changed. Go Hawks

The Bears were still mad from not only losing The NFC Title game the previous January but what they perceived rubbing their noses in it by having Guy Mcintyre line up in the backfield late in the game as a fullback. That is where the idea of putting William Perry in the backfield came from.

The ‘85 Bears were dominant with a ferocious defense and a great running back like Walter Payton. Jim McMahon was basically a quiet wildcard
@FanOfDaUnderAppreciated16 күн бұрын
Bears fans from that era would say a lot of words come to mind when describing McMahon... quiet was not one of them. The first half of the season until he got injured and sat out a few games, he was spectacular. He was also one of the most outspoken, outrageous members of an outspoken, outrageous team. Anyone that actually watched this season unfold would know this.

True. The Fridge was payback for 1984 when 49ERS ran a lineman at the end of the game. Walsh said in an interview "I don't think he (Fridge) has much of a future there)..😂
@johnliberty364716 күн бұрын
I believe the 49ers just used a Tackle as a blocking back and it pissed Ditka off. Maybe it was Bubba Paris but not sure. I just know the OL guy playing fullback was large for a lineman at the time.

These 80s bears are completely underrated... If they stayed together and stayed in tact they would have been a dynasty... Alot of people think they were a 1 and done team ..true in a sense but they never had everyone on board except for 1985... They went to 3 NFC championships in the 80s and were full stength once . The Niners beat themselves in this game. It seemed nearly every play in which they gained yards was called back due to penalties. The Bears passing offense came to play this game unlike the 1984 Championship Game ten months prior. McMahon got Willie Gault isolated on backup Tory Nixon for a big gain on the opening series. It was also the biggest game in the career of Tim Wrightman who made 3 critical catches for 56 yards.
