his standup is great, it's just low hanging fruit for people to mock at the same time. People can make funny observations and a funny voice too, but they can't make a room laugh doing it like Seinfeld. Nice in short bursts, it's like an episode of the show with 2 ideas condensed into less than a minute of the set. Seinfeld is great, this was fresh for the time. Nobody was talking about new age problems like this, now it's kinda standard.

If I wasn't finding a comedian funny but could see that the audience is genuinely laughing every few seconds(like they are here),I wouldn't be sitting there thinking he isn't funny,I'd be thinking hopefully with more exposure to this sort of comedy,my sense of humor may develop enough to begin to appreciate these clearly clever ones like all the people in the audience are able to. It always astonishes me that,despite witnessing with their own eyes all the laughter happening every few seconds throughout his act,some people still maintain he's not funny and is downright boring,rather than acknowledging the possibility that maybe they're just not bright or tuned-in enough to get it!

It's because people often get personal opinions and facts mixed up. Like you said, the evidence shows that most people find him funny, so for those who say otherwise, it's just their opinion, not a fact, yet they act as if the rest of the world has failed to understand how unfunny a comedian is, because this should be an obvious fact. Kind of self-absorbed, that way of thinking. "It's not funny to me, so the comedian is clearly a failure."

Negativity rises to the top on the internet.
@emansnas3 жыл бұрын
Oh I'd go a little further. My sense is that many of these types are not very bright and feel threatened when everyone else is laughing and they're not. They don't have a clue as to why that is but for a variety of possible reasons they can't admit that to themselves, so instead they become defensive. But hey it's not all bad, as they tend to voluntarily march straight to their keyboard and type out pretty much exactly just how dysfunctionally [sic] clueless they are. Which notifies those who 'get it' that they've in effect declared themselves unfit for 'inner circle' duty. That arguably has some value.

Perfect for a '90s sitcom. I worked on a prestige network 4-cam sitcom pilot in the late '00s, based on an actual edgy, hilarious, and reasonably successful comic's perspective. Very Brechtian, super-meta, making fun of nearly every sitcom trope. I loved it, and at final cut, we all realized it was a disaster. Creators shelved it after that-didn't even try to get it aired. And for good reason-only working writers, comics would have really gotten it, and only as a standalone program. Would have done more harm than good: if it had been picked up-numbers in the high hundreds. You almost never know if the thing you're working on is actually going to be good or terrible, until it's done, and sitcoms and standup are completely different worlds, which is largely what makes Seinfeld so special. Season 1-7 are largely Larry David taking the piss out of a lukewarm comic, then Jerry had the opportunity to steer it his own way for 2 seasons before gracefully ending it on a high note. They were in the right places at the right times.
