A rip-snortin' version of this song if there ever was one. Really, I can't think of a recording that's better than this one that I've heard. Jerry just in the absolute prime, his voice as pretty and tortured and in the moment as could be. Bob and Jerry's harmonies just perfect. Everyone playing understated and smart, very musical. Magical stuff.

I like the one on Dead Ahead a bit better, I think that was Radio City Music Hall. So very eerie, and Jerry has the most stern look on his face on one of the "Nothings gonna bring him backs", gives chills Everytime and really sends the meaning of the song home

Jerry's feeling no pain and stealing my face in some existential slo-mo, great video!! I liked the Dead for many years, but unfortunately didn't have that older brother/sister/sage to really tune me in to their incredible sound. So my mind was warped by garbage radio selection brainwashing. Thank goodness for KZbin! Now... I LOVE THE DEAD and watching the videos is (almost) like sharing the true experience. Damn, Jerry was a fine, fine guitarist and singer. My mind's been liberated, prejudice has fallen to the wayside, my iPod has been filled with gigs of awesome Dead gigs, and maybe most importantly - I'm practicing what Jerry preached - "Just be nice to one another"! Peace, my brothers and sisters :~]

Well brotha, it's awesome you have the capacity for it. Unfortunately a lot of folks don't get it. Now your mind can get warped the good kind of way! Peace n light to you (~);}

@@ramsayhofmeisterSaw them sober as a judge at Soldier Field a few years back. I've reached the age where a second beer puts me to sleep anyway. First time was Folsom Field, Boulder in Sept 1972, my first week in college. I was a shy kid who'd gone to small schools and wondered if I'd made a mistake choosing this huge place. My next door dorm neighbor Patrick from Boston blew in with some windowpane and said "C'mon, you can't miss the Dead!" Like that scene in Almost Famous pretty soon it was "You Are Home!"
@ramsayhofmeister6 ай бұрын
@mikegalvin9801 Very cool, Mike. My mom's side is actually from Chicago, so I've been there a thousand times. My friend, Steve, was at that show you are referring to, I think. He and his dad own the Indiana Pacers. I'm from Indy. Also, I have the most awesome story of anyone attending a Grateful Dead concert. I'll share it with you soon. My best friend, Keith, went to a show in Cincinnati and was tripping in the summer of '85. He's been sober more than 13 years now. We came from a Catholic high school and grade school background. You are going to love it!
@mikegalvin98016 ай бұрын
@@ramsayhofmeister Catholic school grades 1 to 5, then middle school public (folks wanted us to meet non Catholic kids). Then my brother went to public high school, me to Catholic as while we were close at 14 we were sick of being "the twins." There was a girl from Indianapolis in my dorm - last name Steinway. "Like the pianos." "Yes my family makes them." As kids we used to go to the Indiana Dunes. Good Old Days when they rented dune buggies to 11 year olds without helmets LOL!

I wondered why I had no recollection of the dead going to Europe in 1981. Then it hit me- I was deployed on the USS Tripoli in the middle of the Indian ocean. This is before information technology as we know it boys and girls. A helicopter found us once a week, delivering mail, 16mm film canisters, VHS tapes and reel to reel music. I worked in the tv/radio room voluntarily, and did the sports report one night when the other guy was sick. Anyway - we hung out with the audio visual sailors because we had absolutely nothing to do on a ship, being a Marine infantry unit. We ate well, surreptitiously smoked pot with a black government pen as a pipe and a gas mask filter with which to blow the smoke through. Ah- these were the good old days. The television programming we received was appropriately irreverent for young men in their early 20's. Every week we got a new SCTV- and we would stay up half the night, stoned and laughing our asses off. But the only grateful dead we ever got was some old recorded retrospective that featured Jerry intermittently talking in between some older dead music from the early 70's. We could choose what to broadcast to the ships closed circuit TV's and wall radios. I remember getting complaints from some of the marines that the music was too dated, and "could we play something more contemporary". Lol.

Letting go is difficult, practically impossible without multiple attempts to leave. I'm sure nomads had easier lives, using what they could and then escaping with only what was truly necessary. But, who can Live that way? Especially now...we have Love to remind us of the light, but when Hate gets involved everything gets messy. Keeping our heads, that's what this song is about. And, not becoming frustrated along the way...(Nick, 5/11/2024)

This song was actually written because, I don't remember who it was. Unfortunately. I don't have my book about the story anymore. But it was a dad or uncle of one of the members. He ran off with all of the bands profits. He literally disappeared. That's the story behind this song. They would have built the wall of sound earlier if he wouldn't have taken all the money. Such chill guys they never pressed any criminal charges. But this song is a representation of their dislikes of him. Hens we have "He's gone". Little bit of Dead head knowledge for your skelton ❤
