Cows are parents too...hilarious. I don't have the vehicle to get to a lot of these places but I sure enjoy watching them anyway.

You CAN hike into Parunuweap from Mount Carmel Junction. Actually, that's what all the routes I read said to do. But I can't imagine most of that section of the hike is much fun. Probably still be worth it though. Another, more scenic but harder route would be to go in the exit route for Misery Canyon from Checkerboard Mesa. That is supposedly kinda long with decent elevation gain though.

If you hike all the way you will get to the park - but there is no entry allowed. Did it one october (many years ago). First night was windy, second night was rainy, third night was 18F. I've had better weather but it is a great hike.

Stumbled across your channel the other day and wanted to say how much I enjoy it. You have a wonderful eye and capture some spectacular scenery. For some further detail, the trail in from Mount Carmel junction is a gravel road for about 2.7 miles until you reach the ranch house. From there it turns into an off-road trail that crosses the river dozens of times until you reach a very steep sandy hill climb after about 5.8 miles from hwy 89. The gravel road/off-road trail is a very popular trail for ATVs, 4X4 etc. Overall it is scenic but with lots of vehicle traffic the dust would be irritating to say the least. The sand you describe is no joke and people get stuck on trails around the area all the time. Thank you for sharing this information, looking to explore this trail.

Marc - If I were interested in hiking this, but wanted to be dropped off by an ATV (perhaps through a guide service or something) before the sandy hill climb, is that do-able ?
@schaerem2 жыл бұрын
@@MoviesSam Sorry I didn't see your question until now. Just to make sure we are on the same page, the route Jerry described is coming in form the Coral Pink Side, typical parking is at the Elephant Cove, very popular for ATVs. The description I put above is if you enter from Mount Carmel. This route, after you reach the sand hill, you would have to hike about 4.5 miles to reach Rock Canyon. There are tour companies in Kanab that would certainly take you out there, down either route.

Hey Jerry, thank you so much for the trail guide.
@bena32692 жыл бұрын
The turn off is elephant cove not coral pink sand dunes. Get a BLM field map in case your gps fails. You can pick one up at the kane county visitor center in Kanab for $10. The sand is no joke.

The part you pass through if you go in at Mount Carmel Junction? I read it passes through private property. I thought the part we did (Rock Canyon to the Barracks) was all BLM though. Very nice of them to let people hike on their property though.

@@JerryArizona correct the dirt road that follows the east fork it’s just a mile or less south of my Carmel. My friends own over 100 acres there. They have one massive family cabin, atv track, kids playground. It’s pretty nuts. His grandfather homestead that land a long time ago. Pretty easy to see on google earth.

Jerry - THANKs for the video. Do you know if it is possible to have a vehicle drive you in as far as you can go (maybe to where the jeep trail leaves the river ?) from Mt. Carmel Junction and drop you off ? Like maybe cut off some of the slightly less interesting miles at the beginning of the hike ?
@JerryArizona2 жыл бұрын
Haven't done that route, but from what I read you can drive in to a gate. And if you have a 4WD, you can get in farther beyond that. I also read there is private property along this route but it said you could hike through it, so maybe you can drive too? I'm not 100% sure. If your car can't get to where we started, you can also possibly look into the exit route for Misery Canyon. It comes in by the Powell plaque. Again, haven't done it, but I know it's an option. (Just don't go in on Misery unless you have rappeling gear.) That goes through Checkerboard mesa which would be steep going out, but probably prettier. They usually have GPX tracks for canyoneering routes on Ropewiki that you can download.

Jerry, have you ever done a video about mapping out your trek via GPS tools?
@JerryArizona Жыл бұрын
No. It's a pretty good idea though. I am usually out exploring and have gravitated more on just making trip videos because I really enjoy them. But I'll add it to the list of ideas and maybe get to it if I have time.

Jerry, Where do I find the GPS data for this hike? Have done many hikes in Cedar Mesa and off Hole in the Rock Rd; looking forward to doing this one. Enjoy your videos; keep it up; you do a good job. Thank you!
@JerryArizona3 жыл бұрын
I found them online originally, but I can't find it anymore. I have some of the more important GPS coordinates in the description of the video. You may be able to piece it together from those.
@rnelsontn3 жыл бұрын
Ok, thanks. Another question: your videos often include "GPS coordinates & more info in the description." Where is the description?
@JerryArizona3 жыл бұрын
It's right under the video. There is a short description with words under the title when you click on the video. If you click on "Show More" it will bring up everything I wrote in the description. Wish you could put pictures in comments and I could clarify better.
@rnelsontn3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Jerry. I had just failed to notice the "show more" notice. Many times I watch these videos on my smartphone and there doesn't seem to be that option. I really appreciate your kind and helpful response. Good luck on your further hikes; looking forward to more from you guys.
