Dumb luck, actually. We went to Zion to see if we could catch some flooding/waterfalls (from the road). Didn't rain there, but it rained so much in Flagstaff the 89 was closed and the detour sent us right by Grand Falls.
@CactusAtlas2 жыл бұрын
Great timing on this one! All the rains we've had certainly made for an epic roar of the falls. Glad to see in the comments that I wasn't the only one thinking of the chocolate falls from Willy Wonka. 😅
@JerryArizona2 жыл бұрын
Funny. The flooding of the 89 caused us to have to do a bypass where we ended up driving right by it. We were going to Zion to see if we could catch some waterfalls or flooding there, but nothing. So we ended up hitting up this on the way home. Worked out great.
@HighlanderNorth12 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing there might be a slight bit of sediment mixed in with the water going over these falls. On a separate and completely unrelated note, I wonder why the water isn't crystal clear like my bottle of Perrier? Seriously though, this is the first time I've ever seen or heard of these falls. Is there always some moving water running there, even when it hasn't rained in awhile?

You got much better video than me with my 10 year old verizon kyocera 4g phone. LOL
@JerryArizona2 жыл бұрын
Nice! We ended up here by accident. Zipped up to Zion hoping to catch waterfalls and rain and possible flooding. Only flooding we found was on the 89 at Flagstaff, where we had to do a detour and ended up going right past this. Had to stop on the way home. Definitely worth it.
@craigw10002 жыл бұрын
What luck, falling water and a dry access road! I visited many times during my 22 years in Flagstaff and enjoyed seeing it bone dry, with water flowing, and a couple times during a torrential flow much greater than shown here. On one dry visit, I crossed the river bed above the falls and did a drive through the Rez, coming out at the crossing at Black Falls, then into Wupatki NM. If visiting during falling water, protect your cameras! The mist from the falls is filled with mud. When water's not flowing, you can walk right down to the base of the falls and even behind the one large boulder at the base about midway across falls.
@JerryArizona2 жыл бұрын
All my shots with the full frame are cut short because of the mist. That thing was filthy when I got done.

Floods in Las Vegas and Death Valley and the Little Colorado in full beast mode at the falls! Quite a monsoon this year. Thanks for including the drive into the parking area. All of those cones reminded me of the area near the new fissure eruption in southern Iceland. It is generating a flow similar to the one that filled the Little Colorado valley and created the falls. Of course, the climate is a little wetter and cooler in Iceland! Meanwhile, we have only had .02 inches in the last 45 days in the Brazos Valley of Central Texas. The post oaks are brown and in shock meaning even the deep moisture is drying up. We need that predicted above average tropical season to kick in now...
