Sport bike rider here. Nice and very useful scooter for everyday, and also if needed can handle some twisties , and short highway ride for sure. Nice storage , and very reliable engine. I had my first maxi scooter before 5 years , and it was Aprilia Atlantic 500cc. Great bike , except electronics. So being a sport bike rider, with knowledge of scooters trough my riding experience, i give to this one a go for everyone who wants useful town scooter with possibility to have weekend back roads rides up to 100 miles without problem . In this category i also want to recommend Kymco Xciting 250cc, Honda pantheon 150, Honda foresight 250, Aprilia Atlantic 200. All good scooters with reliable engines , and good riding experience. Safe roads Jerry ! Cheers

Hi Jerry, just a little tip with the rotor lock...use it on the rear rotor! Reason being is that the front you can lock the steering but the rear wheel is still able to roll, a bad guy can just lift the front of the bike and roll it away but if you have the rear locked he cant. So bad guy will have to lift the rear up and try to roll the bike away in circles. Hope that helps

Jerry, to have to rev your scooter clear to 4000rpm just to get it going seems excessive. Has the CVT drive belt ever been changed. The earlier Burgman 200's had a narrow belt while the newer Burgman 200's had a wider belt. This could make all the difference in the world. The CVT belt runs on the side of the belt, not top or bottom. With the proper CVT drive belt or a new one it would not "shift" into nutrual until you were almost stopped. Therefore the width of the belt is very important. If the belt has never been changed, I would look into a new belt for it. There are also upgades you can buy for the 200. The entire CVT kit is quite expensise, but you can but the weights for the variator and the washers that go behind the spring and make a huge difference. Just thought I would share this. Ride safe and enjoy every journey.

It doesn’t exactly shift into anything it’s a belt driven cv transmission so the clutch doesn’t engage until it’s spun up to a certain speed. 4000 rpm is also not an unusual take off rpm (with factory tuned transmission). With that said if you wanted it to engage at a lower rpm you can have the clutch springs swapped out and put different weight rollers in the variator to adjust the power delivery and take off characteristics. Best thing to do is find a mechanic who knows about scooter transmission tuning to sort it for you

I have the 2018 Burgman 200 and don’t have to rev the engine much to get going and when slowing down it goes into neutral about 5 mph. Maybe you need an adjustment to the cvt.

Sportland in Champaign, Il has a brand new Burgman 650 Executive in their showroom if you are interested. It sounds like this is an excellent example of what it is, a 200 CC scooter. But it does not have all the bells and whistles of a bigger scooter or motorcycle.

Just picked up my 200 yesterday. I have always had scoots that you had to press the brake to start so thats no biggie But I think I see what Jerry is talking about on the shifting into neutral. Its not really a problem for me but it took some getting used to for cornering - you need some forward movement for cornering and this just totally cuts the forward movement when the throttle is decreased. Really just something to get used to.

There is no neutral. It is a continuous transmission with a belt wrapped round a transmission hub with moveable rollers which are "held" in a small radius by a powerful spring to create a low gear. The other end of the belt wraps round a fixed hub attached to the rear wheel. As your speed increases, centrepetal force overcomes the spring and the rollers expand outwards to create a larger radius and therefore a "higher" continuously changing gear ratio. It feels like there is a "neutral" when you roll off the power but there isn't one. This is the rollers moving back to a smaller radius/lower gear and temporarily disengaged by an automatic "clutch". Because quite high rpm is the optimum for initial acceleration, you do need to twist quite a lot to get the engine to overcome inertia. As you pass 30-40 mph the CVT becomes a more and more "direct" drive, unless you really want to accelerate hard. This is similar to all CVT transmission scooters. The 200cc on the Burgman is a great little engine, capable of cruising at quite high speeds. The price you pay for this is that initial acceleration will require high rpm - just above the maximum torque - to overcome inertia, so as to give you plenty of acceleration power.

Not so silly Jerry ...its an insurance/lawyer thing. There will always be a person who revs the throttle while off the bike...there is no neutral on a CV transmission. Its always engaged. You may have the illusion (tricky engineers) that it is in "neutral" but in fact, it just means the RPM have not permitted the clutch-flywheel to engage. Unless...you can't start it on either stand, so the point is moot. There are so many lighter, smaller, cheaper motorcycles out there, why would you buy something that annoys you so much? ;-) Stay safe! happy trails! Dave

it doesnt shift. It has no gears! There is no sutch thing as neutal or automatic... Automatic means it changes gears for you so if it doesnt has gears its impossible to classify it as auto. What it does is changing the ratios!!!! And If you put heavier rolers it will ingage earlier... Like 3k rpm ou maybe less...

Expensive????? It will cost uou less than 20 dollars and you can do it yourself at home with basic tools. Its liike changing a tire... And it will make a big difference. ABut you will loose torque. @fingerhorn45 жыл бұрын
It's a great scooter with excellent performance for a 200 cc. However there is one major flaw. The front of the seat is low but the floorboards where you rest your feet, and the raised running board at the front, are too high. This means that unless you have quite short legs there is a likelyhood that you knees are going to be higher than your hips, which is very uncomfortable. There are only two solutions: one is for Suzuki to completely redesign the scooter so the foot boards are lower, or to get rid of the back of the seat which prevents you from getting far enough back to be able to stretch your legs and have room to get your knees at least parallel with your hips. But Suzuki built the back of the seat that way in order to fit helmets in the back of the luggage space. DISASTROUS design! Have a look at every single video review of the 200, and you'll see that EVERYONE who tests it has their knees higher than their hips. Bummer. The rest of the scooter is beautifully made and has ABS as standard. However in Europe it is grossly overpriced and Yamaha doesn't seem to care that this prevents them selling more units - and consequently it has been a very poor seller in Europe, with literally tens of units being sold. Not even hundreds.

After about three videos on the Burgman 200, this seat and footboard relationship is something that i was noticing. I have a 2018 Honda PCX150, and I absolutely love the way I can "stretch out", and at 5' 8" my knees being below my hips helps to keep my back nice and straight without fatiguing. The only things that I really find lacking on my PCX is the weak rear suspension, which often bottoms out and the 110kph (65mph) top speed.
