I've been riding my 2020 Suzuki Burgman 400 for 2 years now and I'm really enjoying her. I've got just over 1200 miles on mine and it's great in the city, on the twisties or on the highway. Just a great all around bike

I put 5000 miles on a 2019 Burgman 400 and that thing ran better on the interstate than I thought it would. The mpg's got better the longer you were out there, and the bike was heavy enough to stick to the road. Top speed was unknown but I had more speed available even at 85 mph. I saw 79 mpg at one point but I like backroads on a bike. 65mpg was the most common average. Great bike.

Yes the Burgman 400 is very good doing super highway speeds. Like yourself, I avoid expressways. I enjoy secondary roads and seldom exceed 100 km/hr (62 mph). I have 2019 Burgman 400 that I bought new, and its great fun to ride. Scooters are the best bikes to ride when you are 76 like me!

Man, that crack in the middle of the highway lane would drive me crazy, too. If nothing else, now you know if you absolutely have to get on a highway it's no problem with your 400. Great video!

I spent a couple of years commuting into Washington DC, round I495 and into the city on I395, and I think the number one technique you can use to stay safe is to leave at least a two second gap to the vehicle in front - and actually count it outload. It saved me when the pickup in front drove over an actual ladder that was lying in the road. You've got to give yourself the time to react to truck tires disintegrating, stuff in the road, the vehicle in front rear-ending another vehicle, and all the other nonsense. 👍

A nice bike, a wonderfully clear wide road and great weather. It's just a matter of getting used to the high speed traffic and watching all around you. Since speeds are higher traffic can "sneak up" into your blind spots easily and catch you unawares. It's all about awareness. The Burgman 400 easily copes with the motorways (freeways) of the UK at all speeds. Thanks for a great video.

I have a 2005. It'll do almost 95mph, but it doesn't like it much. Very smooth at ~65mph with plenty of passing power if you got the cohones for it. Crosswinds, passing big trucks, and crap roads are no fun either. But for a little 400cc scoot with almost zero maintenance? It's a great bike for easy scenic day trips, even two up, and perfect for year round daily commutes at sane speeds. I'll take my scoot in a downpour over almost anything else on two wheels =)

Interstate generally just isn't fun riding and I avoid it but sometimes you have to get where you're going directly so there's a need to know if your scooter can handle it when necessary. Truth is the interstate isn't so bad when you get away from metropolitan areas. Smooth sailing then. Burgy 400 is fine but I'm looking at a Kymco AK550. Love the Suzuki brand and sure wish the 650 Exec was still in production. Riding a 2018 VStrom 1000xt now but getting old and need something easier to manage.

Thank you for this video. We ride a HD Tri-Glide due to my wife's many health issues, but it rides like a dump truck and is extremely hard to steer. I am wanting to go back to two wheels, but I want a smooth ride so I'm looking at scooters. I was looking hard at Kymco X-Roads 300i but the videos saiy it struggles and had a lot of vibrations at speeds of 60mph and above. So I decided to look at something a little larger. I don't want a real large heavy scooter like a 650, so I've now decided on a 400cc. We have ridden somewhere between 300,000 and 400,000 by motorcycle (mostly large ones) and there are still certain roads I hate to ride. We live in Ohio and ride a lot on devided highways where the speed limit is 70 mph. We usually run 65mph to be more relxed. But the outer belt around Columbus (270) makes me nervous. The outer belt around Cincinnati(275) makes me REAL nervous, The West Viginia Turnpke Rt77) makes me nervous, But Rt 81 in Virginia I will NEVER ride again. It is a white knuckle highway. You keep a firm grip on the bars all the way and your blood pressure probably goes out of sight. Semis changing lanes at 85plus MPH zig zagging here and there. No way will I ever do that road again. Thanks again for this video. Ride safely and enjoy every journey.

I ride a Vespa 300 on the highways quite a bit around DC. I don't love it because at those speeds I can't accelerate my way out of trouble. And bad road surfaces - lots of those in my area - do make me nervous. But the looks I get from people in cars can be fun. The upside to highway riding to keep in mind is that the traffic is generally more predictable. The downside is that if something goes wrong at those speeds, well...

Just an FYI, I have a 2022 Burgman 400. I always ride with my Garmin Zumo XT. I find the the Burgman speedometer is close to 5 mph optimistic. You think you are going close to 70 mph but in reality you're doing 65 mph. Also please be sure to test ride the Can Am before you commit. I owned a Ryker for a while and the steering is touchy. I upgraded the suspension. It made it a little better but you still had to be on your toes. Be careful if you sneeze!

@@scootermike.thecharterpilot Yes, I have owned a bunch of GPS's but I love the Zumo the best. It is a bit pricey but if anything happened to it I would buy another one tomorrow. I rarely use it to get me someplace but I like the realtime info I can get from it while riding and I can pull the GPX file from it afterwards and create a map of where I have been. I also glance at it when there is a sideroad to see where it may go and then I check it out. I still own two motorcycles. One is a Honda CRF300L Rally. I can go anywhere on that and the Zumo is always strapped on to go exploring. I mentioned that I had a Ryker earlier. Well, I sold that and bought a Bergman. It's a blast, a very enjoyable and relaxing ride. Every MC owner should own at least one scooter. I bought a second Zumo mount so I can move it to the Honda or the Berg.

Nothing like going on the highway with a scooter. Not have to worry about hitting gears and other things. Scooters are a lot of fun, especially in the 650 would have been better for the highway. A little bit more heavier. You would have felt a whole lot safer on it. But they do not make them anymore. Would love to know why that was a good machine. Your caution is good. But don’t let it replace confidence and experience. A two wheeler is a much safer option on the highway than a trike. Your emergency escape options on trikes are no more than in a car yet you are as exposed as a motorcycle. Also cornering for rider and more so for a pillion on a trike places uncomfortable lateral (sideways) loads. This is not an issue on two wheels

Kymcos are pretty reliable. I have a 250 as a beater from 2003. It's being hammered daily. Even at work I had a semi crash into it and scrape it a meter on the tarmac. Since Suzuki diched 650 and decide to sell only 400 at least they should make this 400 to produce 35 hp/37-38 Nm and make it reach 96-97 mph (155 km/h) and to pick up to 75-80 mph (120-130 km/h) with ease. Also they could put 14 inch at back and put better brakes and dash considering the price (almost same like BMW C400GT with much better spec brakes, performance and technology). But... they did not so Yamaha, Honda, Kymco take the lead over Suzuki past few years or so (completely missed opportunity to continue to led the pack as pioneers in this category). What they're thinking?
@davidphillips7255

If you think the braking on the Burgman is inferior, you haven't ridden one. There's specs and then there's performance. I've been riding bikes for more than 50 years and the braking with the 400 is spectacular. It's the bike's best feature.
@surdzo
@surdzo 9 ай бұрын
@@davidphillips7255 bike’s best is suspension and reliability if you ask me. But brakes and outdated style especially at the rear are certainly not. Though brakes are not bad but could be much better for sure. Purchasing this bike in 2023/2024 is similar to purchasing v Strom 650 instead of v Strom 800 compared to other rivals like Honda x adv350 for example.

@@surdzo We agree on the reliability; but my Burgman has crude front suspension that isn't great but the front brakes and ABS are really impressive. They are not two finger brakes though. Instead of a Can-Am, which is large, expensive, and a bit overwhelming, I suggest buying your wife a cute 50cc scooter with a low seat height, like a Vino, Metropolitan, or Vespa if you want to look Audrey Hepburn cool . She will likely find a little scooter more smiles per mile. You can then add a small top case with backrest for your child. I don't know how old your child is but I gently suggest that you get him or her a small dirt bike and let them loose to crash over and over in the soft dirt. They'll spend hours of fun around your neighborhood and come back dirty and happy. Over time, if you wife or child want to get more "serious" then move up in size, but I think you'll find the smallest bikes are clearly the most fun for casual riders (and secretly for many experienced riders, but they won't say it out loud). For the one or two times per year your wife grudgingly agrees to a long freeway ride, give her your Burgman and you borrow or rent something interesting, or just spend an extra 30 minutes on your small scooters taking the long way to that favorite restaurant on the other side of town.

You are not doing 85mph,get a satnav fitted and working on your bike then ride it again showing 85mph then look at your satnav,it will be showing a slower speed.I have ridden the scooter on a motorway and it was struggling to do 70mph in windy conditions,I doubt your scooter will do 80mph because of the wind.My scooter was a Suzuki Burgman 400.I did have a suzuki Burgman 650 and that had trouble at fast speeds.

@@Bachu.California Only calibrated speedos show the correct speed.I am a UK male person and was an ex Heavy goods truck driver,trucks have calibrated speedos,so if you were traveling at 56mph on the speedo the satnve too was showing 56mph.So have a satnav or have a mobile phone with gps that shows the speed then test it on a on a motorway.You will find the satnav true speed but the scooter will show a faster speed because it's not calibrated.So the cops would never pull you over if you are riding the correct speed limit on you scooter speedo.Have a go then get back to me.The scooter is fast without windy conditions.

I would strongly urge all bike riders to install seat belt on your bikes for the safety of yourself and passenger on your back to tie both down from "flying away" when falling down in an accident or breakdown. The seat belt could be the one removed from junked cars, a seat belt from airplane is even better.

Thanks for the comment....but bikes are very different than cars..... you would not want to be strapped to a bike if you fall with a bike its best to separate from the vehicle... not be attached to it... imagine... hitting the ground then being dragged by the bike and then stuck underneath it.

@@roamereasy9737 So you wanna be dragged with the bike as it tumbles slinging you around and under it as it does so? With hot exhaust and engine in that mix? You must have never ridden a bike to think this is some kind of a 'good idea'. Think things all the way through. And you want to use something from some salvage yard? In the USA that isn't even legal. Seatbelts can become compromised. And... these were developed for a specific fitment. Tons of research went into their design and application. But you want to just cobble together some kind of hack job for a purpose these things were never designed for. No seat back... no seat belt. Buzzass.
