This is a personal review of my new Suzuki Burgman 200 motor scooter. See my Volume 1 notes about the neutral/drive situation which is actually the clutch being engaged/disengaged.

For those with 4,000 rpm take off, you need to change the roller weights in the variator.

Me again, I had problems finding mirrors that I could see past my shoulders. My AN400 didn’t have the stock mirrors After 3 sets of mirrors from Amazon that didn’t work . Finally found vac new set of stock mirrors from E-bay from England. Anyway their are adjuster nuts under the rubber covers that you can adjust the mirrors in, out up and down. The vibrations is probably from one of the nuts not tight enough. I can identify on the seat. The 400 and 650 have driver’s butt rest that can limit moving back far enough. A lot of the owners remove it for more room which I haven’t been able to do yet. Unfortunately your 200 seat isn’t set up them same. For faster take offs from stop hold onto the left brake handle rev it up quickly to 4000 rpm or so and let go of the brake handle helps.

The engine vibration will decelerate once the engine warms up in 3 minutes and the Tach will drop to 1000 RPM, if not then you need to re-adjust the FI....

I bought my first scooter in '22, a Yamaha BWS 125(ZUMA), and really enjoyed it, but have already moved on in '23 to a slightly used 2018 Honda PCX150 (not a lot of new scooter options in Canada) and the difference in comfort and performance are huge. However, I'm still looking for that sweet spot, better highway performance (110kph/65mph top speed) and suspension, so I was hoping that the Burgman might fit the bill, but that rev point and idle vibration would annoy the sh!t out of me. Also, it's going to take a lot to move me away from the PCX with it's near 50 kms/l city, 37 kms/l highway fuel economy (like you, I'm 250lbs). I think I'm going to look for a low mileage Honda Forza 300cc.

I just picked up the 2022 Burgman 200, I’m not experiencing any of the engine issues you have. You likely got a Burgman that needed adjustments.

I’d agree. My very recently acquired, 2012 UH200 idles slower than that and it doesn’t vibrate the mirrors. It also takes off at a lower rpm than that. TBH, as a long time bike rider, I still prefer a manual clutch because the centrifugal type don’t give quite so a delicate control.

Thanks again appreciate hearing about the behaviour at a standstill and RPM needed to get going. Cheers.

My girl friend also has a 2014 Burg 200, bought about 4 months ago brand new. I'm its primary rider. Well, ok, pretty much only rider. You're right about the vibration. What I do sometimes at intersections is act like Speed Racer, hold in the brake, and rev the engine. Vroom vroom. Probably 'bout as close as you'll get with simulating the real motorcycle experience of revving the engine. But it's fun. Try it. BTW, I own a Burg 650. Great bike, but not so much for around town piddlin'. That's why I enjoy the B200 so much. Pretty peppy little sucker too.

No problems with my Burgman 200 except hard to get the gas cap back on sometimes. Yes the seat could be more comfortable. But smooth plush ride suspension, 75mpg and reliable.

Yeah, learning the gas cap trick takes time

You are absolutely right with that sweeping up seat. Most scooters have that, I guess it makes people think they are kind of moulded into a comfy seat.

I loved switching from a 400 to a 650. You don't have to grab a fist full of throttle to get it moving. Yeah the 400 is bad for that too, probably not as bad as the 200, but still just as annoying. Also, cruising at 35 or so I'm still at really low RPMs. I highly recommend the 650 if you enjoy owning a scooter.

Its a matter of physics Jerry. A dog 200cc scooter doesn't have much power. Add to that a heavy chassis and rider and it takes quite a bit of throttle to overcome inertia and get it going. You made this video a few years ago, so maybe by now you have upgraded to a more powerful scooter. Anyway, thanks for the review. You did provide quite a bit of useful information.
@sneat20282 жыл бұрын
Saying this Burgman 200 doesn’t have power indicates that you have never ridden the Burgman 200. The displacement is a true 200cc, it has good power.

Jerry, I've heard somewhere that the motorcycle in the US is adjusted to around 180lbs riders. Isn't it possible that your scooter needs a tweaking to start moving at around 3000rpm or even 2000 rpm? a matter of adjustment than a design. Also it's a matter of taste but I don't like digital display because all you see is constantly changing flickering numbers. The fact that you complained about the digital fuel gauge being not precise is it.

Interesting info on the the assumed average rider's weight. Two people at 125 lbs would be rather small people, which would be Jerry's weight. If the average rider's weight is assumed to be 180 lbs then the power should accommodate 360 lbs, well below Jerry's weight. I'll be looking at this when I test ride a Suzuki 200.

Sorry, I didn't know the logic of these scooters at the time when I commented. The weight of a rider probably has very little effect on the RPM at which the scooter starts moving. Jerry mentioned that his scooter starts moving at 4000RPM. This is a design for most CVT scooters. CVT scooters don't have a neutral like autos on cars and DCT transmission. Just my assumption but it's probably designed so that when you start the engine and want rev a little as in cold start, the scooter won't have to move. Knowing that the scooter won't move while you're reving under 4000RPM is a convenience in a way.

It's all explained in the manual. And it just makes sense. These engines aren't designed to make power in the low end. They are tuned for high rpms and the powerband is therefore obviously higher. The CVT engages where it does by design, which in turn protects the engine and provides for longevity. It has nothing at all to do with driver weight or national market.

Holy cow - why does this man yap on about in drive or neutral ? Seems he's absolutely unaware of facts - this is NOT an automatic gearbox; it's a centrifugal clutch couppled to a belt drive with variabel gearing ! So - as the thing revs up - the clutch engages. And it is a clutch - not a converter, thus no D, R, P or what else. And as speed picks up - the belt drive variable gearing seamlessly increases the gear ratio. So stop ranting and learn to drive it - it functions excatly as it was designed to.

Your a 250 pound guy on a scooter powered by a 200 cc one cylinder motor, think about that for a sec, you really need a bigger scooter
@krollpeter4 жыл бұрын
It is tuned to engage a bit high. Many people say that, not everyone dislikes it, though. It makes the little scoot appear a bit zippier and more powerful, than it really is. And people also don't need to worry about lasting. Here are some around with more than 100,000 km on the clock, with nothing than oil change and the regular drive parts change.
