Jerry you rock!!! By your comments it was determined we had too much cat litter in it. I had ordered a new motor but now it's not needed but since I own two litter robots I'll hang onto it. Thank you so much for educating us. My units are about 9 years old!!

Thank you for the helpful video, Jerry! I've had my LR2 for 10 1/2 years with no problems. Watching your video before ordering the motor gave me the confidence I could actually replace it myself. And I did! Thank you!

Thank you. I have a Litter Robot and it looks like a slightly newer version of yours. I think my motor went kaput yesterday. I've had mine for about 6 years. They are great, and I've had wonderful customer service so far. You gave me hope that I might be able to fix mine.

I also appreciate that you showed all the issues you had while replacing. This shows a real life example of what goes wrong when you try to fix something. It never happens to plan.

Thank you so much for your informative video, We've enjoyed our Litter Robot for about seven years, about a year ago I noticed the motor becoming louder. In the last month it hasen't worked properly...it would turn a little with all three lights flashing and then stop all together, Purchasing a new unit would have been at the bottom of my list at this time. After watching your video I felt comfortable enough to go to the website and order my new motor. I recieved it today, it took me about an hour from start to finish to install. Works wonderfully,Thank You Jerry!

Have had my LR2 for 7 years. Just got a LR3. LR2 had a 9VDC transformer wall wart. LR3 has a 15V switching type. Internal electronics (PIC microcontroller and TI H-bridge motor driver) are powered by an internal regulator, but usually the motor drive voltage is unregulated... If your LR slows down, try a 12V adapter... most old 3.5" external hard drives have nice powerful ones.

Thanks, this very helpful. I'm going to try it today, My LR2 crapped out. I've had couple of LR for last 10 years but never thought about replacing motor.

Also try the new lightweight litter instead of the heavy. It's called Tidy Cats Lightweight. It should extend the use of your weaker motor for quite a while. Good luck.

Thanks for tip. FYI, I have 2 base, one had I think torx like screws and the other hex screws to secure the bottom so didn't have to do the drilling rivet. None of my other motors from my other LR was good enough so I ended up just opening the gear box and lubing it, working okay now but need a replacement motor.

TIP-----When you find the motor having problems turning the ball because it's getting older and weaker and you've had to use less and less litter in the ball, change the litter to "Tidy Cats Lightweight Litter". It weighs half that of conventional litter and works well with the robot. This could prolong the replacement of the motor for some time!

Your motor may not be bad. Try filling the robot with less litter first. I think the directions call for the litter to be about two inches below the opening. Otherwise, the motor doesn't have the power to rotate the ball. Good luck!

Thanks for this, I might end up doing this someday. Been having issues with ours and I suspect the motor is burning out. It's only 5 months old though...
