Just keep in mind the 512 he got to durability test was given to him the one he is giving away and the other one are likely not 512gb models and he probably only paid for 1 of the 3. I just wish they would have sent him a broken one to put through durability testing vs one that could have been sent to a buyer.

@Carl Gunderson lots of reports of different rma issues all it needs is a good screen for him to test if it has fan defects or bad analog sticks or bad WiFi as have been reported it would not really affect the durability testing while at the same time not take a fully working 512gb out of circulation. Instead he wrecks the top end model which is the one in most demand. He could have just as easily performed all those tests on a 64gb model too. Except the frosted glass...

For reference the Nintendo Switch has anywhere between 291 to 380 nits brightness depending on the model. Complaining about the steam deck's 400 should be more of a criticism of hand-held gaming devices' peak brightness as whole, rather than a device specific thing.

It's so fucking wasteful. This whole video is pointless. It's not a $1200 phone advertising drop or scratch resistance--we're well aware it's made with very basic plastic and a normal screen since Valve have been very clear about keeping cost and weight down. If you're worried about the screen in a device like this, get a cover. That's it. We don't need a video showing complete destruction of a hard-to-get device right now, especially when there's global shortages.

It is great. This video is just a dogshit take. Making the screen brighter would have killed battery life. Going with a laser etching was the best way to improve playability on a portable. It works brilliantly for most lighting conditions. Being directly under literal filming stage lights isn't a normal use case... It's a very good etching job too (not Apple nano glass level, but not dramatically far off either). Go look at people that actually give a shit about gaming tech like RetroGamesCorp for a MUCH better screen glass comparison.

As a poor stralian mofo that can’t get this delivered to my country. I literally died inside watching that first steam deck get mutilated lol. I guess people know how scratch resistant it is now though.

how does a screen protector look on the anti glare model compare to the normal one? I'm getting the anti glare one mostly for the storage and case but I'm interested if a matte screen protector doubles the etched screen making it look really bad or if its just as if it was on the non etched

So I've been thinking about getting a Steam Deck and this was one of the videos I ended up watching, but I didn't quite read the title beforehand, just assumed the video was going to be about the glass and whether it was worth having the anti-glare or not. You can imagine my reaction when all of a sudden he starts scratching that brand new screen... Keep in mind this was the first video I watched from this channel 💀

My order window came due yesterday for the 256 gig version. It's been 3 months since this video came out and I got in line. This is great because everyone was telling me it would be after Christmas but instead it's 3 months. I ordered another one (256 gig), I'm in the USA.
