Anthony Nickerson like Zephyr said, there's not a backlight it's just that the AMOLED panel probably cracked underneath the glass. Same thing happened with my normal S6 after it fell face down from about 5 feet (for some reason I tried to catch a football with it in my hand). It was kind of a good thing because it had some random restarting problems which I think might have been caused by water damage a few months back. Luckily my insurance kept sending me crappy refurbished phones which I kept returning until last month they ran out of Galaxy S6s and they sent me a non refurbished S8. I guess it all payed off after all.

I’ve gotten a new flagship every year since 2014 and never broken one once. I think the difference is when you have to work for months to save money you tend to be super careful. Thanks for asking. My story began on my daily bike commute back home from my graveyard shift at the social detox in my old town. My practice was to ride the 5 miles home, have a snack & go to sleep. I placed my workday at the end of my day. Although I was living in a small town, traffic still demands your attention. This is particularly true of bikeriders. I had to navigate a tricky & quite busy intersection. It included an on/off ramp to the interstate. Light, a left turn green one, was going to change soon. I had the timing down, so hit it. As all bikeriders know, a car driver can look you in the face, eye contact, will even nod at you, when they suddenly notice they are heading right at you. I try to watch for that in my own driving. I was in the left scramble lane approaching the intersection when from the right, from the off ramp, squirrels out a car, running their light. In their defense, it is a long light. I had to swerve hard. The cardriver flipped me off, of course. I also try to watch out for that in my own driving. That was when I realized, the noise I heard was my phone sacrificing itself to save my life. It jumped out of my pocket and slid in front of the oncoming car that I was trying to beat through the intersection. The phone sacrificed itself trying to hold it back, saving my life. After the lights changed up, I walked back to through the intersection to pick up its valent remains. I’ll name my next child Nokia.

I don't have a tendency to break phones but one day I fell off my cycle and the phone in my pocket got hurt. Luckily the phone didn't get any ailments like shattered screen, loss in sensitivity of the screen, but battery backup has started to slowly fall down and the slow down process grew exponentially, which is astonishing.

My story of a broken phone: I had a Samsung Galaxy J1 2016 and it was about spring of 2017 and I was just taking a shower, and then I came out, decided to wash my hands, play some music on my phone, and it was fine, but I accidentally elbowed it and I was living in a basement suite at the time so I had concrete under every floor. Except my bathroom. It had tiles made of concrete. When I elbowed my phone, it hit the ground flat on the screen and the front was obliterated. And I haven’t gotten a screen replacement because it was a old phone. And the screens looked smaller than the stock screen. To this day I’m using a Samsung Galaxy S8 and probably gonna go to a Samsung Galaxy A5 2017. And that, was my *broken phone* story

Last time I “broke” a phone was my iPhone 6. It wasn’t visually damaged at all, but a lot of things internally broke. I used to throw it across rooms and everything, eventually the battery life was so bad, the Bluetooth antenna stopped receiving signals over 0.5 metres away from the phone, and wifi was on and off working, and mobile data was weak. I did have a lifeproof brand case on it, and as I said I would throw it across rooms and drop it all the time and it kept fighting for my 2-3 years of using it

I was at the skatepark with my mate and I had to put my phone down to do anything because, ironically, I didn’t want it to be damaged if it slipped. It was a new Iphone 5s and I placed it right on the corner of the ramp I was on, under the guard rail. I informed my friend that it was there, he obviously didn’t hear me as when he came up to ask what he said, he landed on my phone and properly cracked the screen, only broken phone. I’ve owned 3 phones so far. A iPhone 5c when I was 10-11 an iPhone 6 from 11-13 and I’m currently using the iPhone XR and I got it for my 13th birthday and I have never broke a single device in my life. However my moms iPhone 6 broke 4 times before she got the iPhone 8 one being my brothers fault. so i've broken a few phones. - HTC ONE M8 (droped and then started to spaz out) - SAMSUNG NOTE 2 (i smacked my sister across the head with it for some reason and it shattered the whole screen) -HUAWEI P8 LITE (i was doing a run whilst holding the phone in my hand, i then tripped and fell and somehow launched the phone out of my hand. it got so cracked that chunks fell off it) _ SAMSUNG ACE (this was my first ever smartphone, at that time the iphone 5 came out and after a couple of years i wanted to get a new phone, but my parents said "you can get a new phone once this one breaks' so i did what any normal kid would do and smash the phone to bits in my back yard) ... and many more but i don' want to keep on typing

I use a case and a screen protector, but still managed to BEND my Galaxy A50. I was watching some late night KZbin, and noticed a bend. I thought it was my very crappy case, but i took it off, and the phone was bent near the volume rocker and power button! That is when I got a new case! Story #2: I have an iPhone 6 that I use as an mp3 player. I took it out of the case for some reason, and dropped it! No cracks, but a very nice dent on the bottom right corner, and a nice scratch on the aluminum back! I still use the phone as an mp3 player, but I still see the dent, because the case is clear!

How can I avoid accidentally breaking my phone? NFI. I ALWAYS use a @LifeProof Case. Ever since 2012. I am an electrical contractor. I OFTEN drop the phone. Get into dirty and wet environments. NEVER have I damaged a phone. I HAVE had to replace cases. But at $90/ea vs $1000. The answer is a no brainer. Can’t understand why people don’t protect something that holds so much information, and is so needed to function in the world that we live.

I had a Blackberry Storm 2. This was back in the day when those leather belt pouch things were all the rage. I pulled it out of the belt pouch, went to look at it, dropped it face first from about waist height, screen down. When I went to pick it up, the whole screen fell out. Thankfully it still worked after that.

Had an 18 month period where I didn't have a cell phone. Came back to it and everyone was talking about having a case. When I'd last seen them you only need a case of you accidently ran over your phone on a regular basis. Got a Nexus 5x and killed it inside of 2 years with little hits.
