Really? Compared to the idea of Framework, this laptop is very disappointing. Memory can't be removed, nor upgraded. Big oof in my book. But then again, I'm still waiting on removable processors and videocards making a proper comeback. I miss the time of fully repairable/upgradeable laptops, like my old HP Elitebook 8540w. That one has a PGA988 socket for the Intel CPU and a Mobile PCI Express (MXM 3.0) slot for graphics cards. I could, in theory, upgrade it to an Nvidia RTX 2080, as that's the latest card made for this interface, but that would be massively bottlenecked by my CPU, lol.

The price I'm seeing on Amazon is not all that bad for this much power. My only gripe is with the processors and LPDDR4 being board integrated. This means that any RAM failure results in a total board replacement. I'm not seeing any board at this moment but, my experience with repairs tells me the unit would likely be more cost effective to replace as a whole than service. Also, I didn't notice if the WIFI card was removable or not, didn't see it in the teardown. If the WIFI is also board integrated, this can be a similar and larger issue. I've seen dead WIFI kill a 1 year old Alienware M17 before. The machine was a $1700 machine but we couldn't find a replacement board for less than $1100

Hey zack, ive got a tech tip for you When you apply thermal paste to bare silicon (without a metal heat spreader) it is absolutely essential that you spread the thernal paste on the silicon without leaving any empty spaces. @iamdmc

I've got a tip for you: when working with low mounting pressure heat spreaders like inside a laptop don't use thermal paste. Use Honeywell's PTM7950 phase change pad. Lenovo indeed makes great products.. However their support is extremely lackluster, at least here in the EU.. We had A lot of hardware issues recently and at times their so called support sends back faulty units as "No faults" found.. Even with documented issues with pictures, videos and logs of the issues.. The customer should not be left suffering because the RMA team is lazy and bad at troubleshooting.. And this is with the "procare" or whatever their extra warranty is called that provide higher urgency and faster respond times. Keep this in mind when choosing a business laptop.

Your precise way of opening up laptop components and re-assembling them back properly is really awesome. Just to check, if we open up a laptop to check or upgrade the Ram or SSD, without breaking anything, during warranty, will it void my warranty ?

It's hard to explain how magnifical Lenovo's keyboard is mostly to someone who have never used one before.. I've been on the x1 Carbon line up since gen 6 and only lenovo can match that experience.

It's also hard to explain how awesome the original IBM Thinkpad keyboards were before Lenovo took over and gradually made them worse.

@@MosheKiesberg This is so true, and I've been using laptops since the early 90's (desktops before that). I'm typing on my 2022 XPS 15 right now and it's terrible. I built a custom TKL keyboard for my daily work with a split spacebar (left side is backspace) so when I make the switch from that keyboard to my laptop it's just so bad.

The thermal "paste" that was originally on there was a variant of PTM7950, which is a phase change material designed to last a lot and fill the imperfectoins in heatsink a lot better than traditional thermal paste. Unfortunately the thermals are now much worse on this laptop, not to mention pumpout and drying out. Still, great video!

How much worse it can be? +3-4 degrees? I can live with that. If they wanted the best of the best, they could have used a liquid metal LMAO.

@@DarkGT It's about longevity. I've been using ptm7950 on a ThinkPad T480 for about a year and just repasted bt brand new T14G2 with the same PTM. The temperatures immediately dropped by 8-10 degrees from stock paste, and i know the paste will keep its properties for a long time.

@@DarkGT liquid metal would be either too expensive or too dangerous for a slim laptop like rhat, ptm7950 shines here, as it combines best of both worlds between paste and lm

@@verpejas Maybe you clean the dust, or the old paste have dried? On my MX4 there is label saying 7 years, so even the regular paste should last you long. I'm sure that premium solution have advantages, if you don't have the ptm7950 or whatever, you can still be okay if other brands. It really depends if you are going to push it to the limits with heavy computations that will heat the CPU and GPU.

All Lenovo's do that. It's piss poor quality of plastic and hinges. I see them in my repair shop often all with the same kind of issues. I have Lenovo Yoga 710 since 2018. It was my student laptop (I am a Master in Robotics now). Being not very careful with things, I can tell it is super durable!!! It cracked in several places because it fell from my height several times... but still does the job. I am honestly shocked. So now I am looking at the same, but newer model.

Proud owner of Lenovo Legion Gaming laptop for 2K euros. Honestly i can said Lenovo s awsome brand. It does litterary everything running latest games so smooth and it does many else without a single sweat. No Apple or Samsung Laptop or even HP does that. But thats a very long story. Anyway would like and would love to reccomend Lenovo brand and Legion series laptops.

Nice video as always, Zack! Recently got my 16 inch Pro 9i (2024, 9th gen). The inside is very similar (more symmetrical, bigger battery and bigger speakers), but word to the wise: Lenovo has unfortunately stopped pre-installing thermal foam pads in the M2 expansion slot. Just installed an additional 2TB and didn't have any foam on hand, so hope it doesn't really matter and overheat. 😅
