It's like that with basically everything. When you look at someone doing something that you know is hard to do, but they make it look simple, that's when you know you're looking at an expert. Same thing with intellectual things...those that can say something complex in simple terms truly know what they're talking about.

Huawei on their phones (and most Chinese), have 3 step battery removal, and its the easiest thing on earth.. this should be the norm, but Samsung is using strong adhesive not to make the device more stronger, but just to charge you more money for replacement if you choose to go to their service center :) if you go to Huawei service center you would pay no more to 30-40 usd for new battery with labor included :)

Since Z Fold 1, I was a bit skeptical about folding devices, but amazed at the same time. I've waited for them to mature until I've got in November a Z Fold 3 (couldn't afford a 4 😂), and even if I had regressed in some aspects from my late S21U, such as camera department, I got used pretty fast to this new type of device, with its big inner screen, its productivity and how polished the Android version for Z Fold is and really uses all the potential of a folding device format. I don't plan to go back to a "traditional" smartphone anymore, at least for now, and I'm quite thrilled to see the innovations that Z Fold 5 will bring. Unfortunately, the price is still quite prohibitive (especially here in Brazil, where a Z Fold 4 still costs around 8 Brazilian minimum wages).

Got the z fold 4 a few weeks ago. The only drawback is the weight of the phone and the size. It's like a brick when folded and a slight heavy tablet when unfolded, especially with a case on it. I suspect in a the next version or two they will slim it down further and make it lighter and that will be the sweet spot for practicality imo.

I highly doubt my next phone will be a foldable; but, the phone after it very well could be. While the "Flip" style phones do nothing for me, the ones that unfold into a tablet are intriguing as I can often use a bigger screen. The only things holding me back are pricing for those available in the USA and some lingering concerns about long term durability. It's not like I'm unsatisfied with rigid screen devices so I'm in no real hurry to switch to a foldable unless I get lucky entering a contest or find a very sweet deal from my carrier, eBay, or Amazon.

I think the reason Samsung leave the gap is so that if any grid gets on the screen (say a grain of sand) and happens to sit right on crease, there would be a not insubstantial risk of breaking the screen when folded shut if there is no gap. if this screen go's 'in' a bit when its folded (so its only a hard bend on the outside) that should have the same effect but its hard to see if thats the case here. all in all it looks like a good phone. I am so glad that other manufacturers are jumping in on the folding phone thing. Love my fold4, don't think I will ever go back to a 'regular' style phone, but with Samsung being the only real option here in Australia, there is no real reason for them to make it any cheaper, if more folding phones come out, there should be more competition (and more app support)

Awesome hinge mechanism, interesting to see how all the components are cast together to make the only "bolt on" parts be the tensioning springs. Foldable hinges seem to have come a surprisingly long way in the 2 years since I got my Z Flip 3. Still though, I'll be waiting for the Z Flip 5. Samsung's software support is just straight up superior to most of these other OEMs, and I expect that they'll be using at least a similar hinge to this one in the Flip/Fold 5s later this year. Unfortunate that more manufacturers aren't making flip phones and keep to the more phablet-style folding phones - I've had such a good experience using my Flip I doubt I'll ever buy a phone with a pocket footprint larger than my wallet any time in the foreseeable future.

I'm all about folding phones. I use 2 screens more than I thought. It's easier than multiple screen windows. This was fun.

I think that over time, when they will be able to make the phone thinner, they will move to a 3 folding elements factor, with 2 hinges, so that one folds over the central element and the other folds under. First, this would leave the topmost element visible when folded, removing the need for an additional screen to be used when the phone is closed. Second, the hinge from the topmost to central element would bend inwards, leaving exposed part of the screen, making it visible from the side (like the Samsung phones that used the side part of the rounded screen to show time and minor infos). Third, the form factor would be more 4:3 than the square one we have today, that's much better. Fourth, there would be room for more hardware and batteries. It all depends on the thickness of the phone. I guess they could do it even today, but it would be thick as a brick (or as a Nokia Communicator)

only that they have already achieved this with their huawei mate x and their recent mate xs2. Just to mention, mate x was released about the same time as the fold1 came in, huawei (and so the honor) was just way ahead of others, if it's apple, or samsung, after it became #1, US pretty much artificially banned them from using google services, after that their market has shrunk and you have to be actually searching for their phones as they are not available in eu nor us. "uhh HuAwEi BaD ThEy StEaL dAtA, ..unlike Apple, Xiaomi or Samsung..". Subjective opinion but it's yet again just about the politics.. Like I'm sorry but this one is just way too obvious.

I hope they somehow combine plastic and glass to make a more durable screen that can fold in the middle but is scratch resistant elsewhere.

I am using the zfold 4, and I also had the zfold 2 and the fold 4. I'll be honest with you, Jerry, it's a love and hate relationship 😅. To me, the exterior screen is just too narrow, hard to hold, and crippling my hands, and (facetiming) is just too tiny. I think it's useless and could be replaced with a little tiny display like the fold. I only use this screen to place phone calls and view my notifications. Unfolded, it's great, and I am extremely happy, overall extremely satisfied. You know, it is a thick phone when folded, but in your pocket, it's comfortable since it is narrow. I do feel a big difference compared to my previous phablets or my iPhone 14 pro max. I keep bouncing back to regular phones and keep coming back to the fold.... maybe if that spen was tucked inside the fold, it would also make me happier. It is not easy to change a habit, but I sure do enjoy the folding phone game!

I hear you about the front screen, I came from a Fold3 to Fold4, and the small width increase made a world of difference to me. Whereas I hated how narrow it was on Fold3, I find myself comfortably using the Fold4 one just like any phone. I don't think I could ever go back to a standard slate phone, content on the main screen is just bliss 😁
