Zach's major problem in every galaxy device teardown is Samsung using strong adhesives to glue the battery to the device, but now Samsung has started using Pull Tabs, I am sure Zach can now finally upgrade to the S23 Ultra from his Note 10 Plus!.
@95thRiflesOCI Жыл бұрын
If Zach actually takes care of his battery over the years that he has, there is basically no need to replace. My Note 10+ after almost 4 years of use, gets a little over 6 hours of on screen use from 90 to 10. Only reason why I got the S23 ultra was that I got almost $700 off trading in so it was a no brainer after 4 years. But I am not getting the super great battery that everyone else is getting. 8 hours of off screen time when sleeping is almost 3-4% battery loss from this phone which is the same as my note 10+

When are you Doing the S24 Ultra Ter Down Jerry ?
@super-gerald Жыл бұрын
One very important thing that is missing is a MicroSD card slot. I would have upgraded to the S23 Ultra but the deal breaker for me was no MicroSD. I've been on Note phones for a long time, and I'll keep my Note 10+ until either it breaks or Samsung releases an S Ultra with a MicroSD slot.
@hakim5939 Жыл бұрын
The days of MicroSD card is gone my friend. At most you can expect hybrid slot but in premium phones that's rare.

Man, I wanted the s23 Ultra but the size & price was a bit much for me. I downgraded from my 13 Pro Max for the S23 (standard size) and I love it. The pen & cameras are also why I wanted the Ultra, but I couldn't afford it (and honestly if that's the only reasons I wanted it ... I don't need it). 😂 But I love the S23. The size is so comfy in my hands. I've used Android before I swapped to Apple a decade ago and man, do I prefer it more.

As glad as I am to see that the battery is now easier to remove, I can't say it ever worried me that much on previous models and I do believe that the issue was made out to be bigger than it really was. I work in device and phone repair and I have to remove Samsung batteries very regularly. But I've always found that if I give it a generous amount of isopropyl as soon as I get the back off, and then undo the screws and other parts while the alcohol does its thing, and then put the phone back on the heat plate for a couple of minutes, the battery pretty much falls out. I'm not saying it's ideal, and I don't use anywhere near as much adhesive when putting the battery back in, but if you have the right tools, it was really not that hard.
@bwoah7 Жыл бұрын
That's the thing, "the right tools" Regular people with a bit of technical knowledge wanting to just get a 30-ish dollar part and then replace it themselves at home do not usually also have the tools. I know this from experience, as any form of adhesive was pain for me before I got some isopropyl alcohol (I mostly repair my 10-15yr old phones from my collection, so I don't get to work with adhesive very often)

You have to keep in mind end of life recycling too. Recyclers are not going to spend 10-15 minutes trying to carefully extract a battery. If it is glued into place that well (for no reason) then it’s getting chucked in the garbage, especially if the recycler risks a fire or injury by deforming or stabbing the battery when trying to remove it. Making it easier to remove means that it’s more likely to get recycled at the end of its life rather than chucked in the trash. We have to consider the recycleability of stuff now, especially things like smart phones since they are so heavily used, produced in such high numbers, and discarded so readily. We’ve spend decades not caring about what damage we cause to the planet by just using things and throwing them in landfills or burning them in the classic “out of sight, out of mind” fashion and look where we are now.

Good to see Samsung making their phones more repairable finally! After using the S22 Ultra as my daily driver for work and pleasure I upgraded to the S23 Ultra about 2 weeks ago. All I can say is wow. Performance wise it seems like the new S23 Ultra is two generations ahead of last years flagship instead of only one. I'm thinking it's the new UFS 4.0 memory and 5X RAM combined with the beast Snapdragon Gen 2 chip. Runs dramatically faster in day to day tasks all while running much cooler. Normally improved performance comes with worse battery life but not this year thankfully. I'm getting an extra half days worth of battery life on my new phone which is quite impressive to say the least. My phone calls are noticeably more clear with no dropped calls like I had prior with the S22 Ultra...proving the new Qualcomm X70 modem is much improved while being nearly 50% more efficient. One of my favorite upgrades is the speakers that actually have decent bass this year compared to the brutal sound we had in last years S22 Ultra. All in all I'm really enjoying the new phone and that's not even getting into the improved cameras and OIS. Well done Samsung

It's great to see Samsung finally adopt pull tabs to remove the battery, this should increase the longevity of their phones which is obviously great on its own but it's even better now that Samsung is giving all their flagships at least 4 years of Android feature updates.

I took advantage of a trade-in and storage pre-purchase upgrade bonus and I am extremely happy with the S23 ultra. My previous LG V60 ThinQ will be missed and the last Samsung I had was an S8 Active which this by far blows everything out of the water for that. Happy to watch the teardown so I hopefully never have to do it myself.

I just got my S23U. I could've gotten $200 for my S8 International (Exynos). But decided to keep it, because I'm sorely missing having SD card support and, more importantly, a headphone jack. I did buy two DACs, first one cabled but I regretted after realizing having it in the same pocket, would damage my screen; it was also really treble-heavy. (iBasso DC06) Then I got the Fiio BTR7, which is better and BT, so I can keep it in a different pocket (is also had a cable-mode, if the battery ever dies). It's audio is 'warmer' which is more to my taste. Unfortunately, they both still don't sound as good as the S8's built in audio sounds! 😔😮💨 Other than that, it is indeed far superior in every way. What I think I enjoy most, is the stereo sound, though! I was sincerely blown away by the sound quality with Dolby Atmos (Movie) enabled... 😮 Even watching low quality YT videos of someone playing _War Thunder,_ the left and right channel separation and psuedo-surround sound made it very immersive to watch! Hearing fighter aircraft approach from the back left (behind the person playing) and enter the screen on the right, you could hear every bit of its position even though it wasn't on screen! All from _two tiny phone speakers..._ 😯😳🥹 And naturally, watching movies with quality audio is a real treat! [/rambling]

Nothing really bad would happen even if the lcd flex cable was as damaged as it is separate and relatively inexpensive. Overall a great move towards improving repairability by samsung. I wish they waterproofed or separated the lcd connector better from now on, water ingress through the speaker, mic or charging port shouldn't have to mean an issue for the lcd too.
