I met Glenn Ford at the Hollywood Bowl "Night of Stars" in the summer of 1970. I remember shaking his hand and noting he had huge hands. His hand totally engulfed mine and his handshake was firm. I love his movies and I have always enjoyed him as an actor. It was a pleasure to meet him.

These old actors and actresses that you feature , were REAL actors. Not like today. There are a few real ones around, but back then, they ALL mastered their craft. Even the “B” actors back in the day were far better than most, today. I actually found the TV series “ Cade’s County” on DVD.🙂 Thanks for another excellent video. 📻🙂

Really enjoyed the video and history about Glenn Ford Jerry ... Thanks so much . One of my favourite film stars as a youngster ? and much later. Spoke to Glenn when he went to Scotland in search of ancestral info. a real gentleman. It was late at night when he returned my call from earlier in the day and we chatted about his films, etc., etc., and Bing who I had recently been in touch with that month ... so easy to talk to .... so relaxed and friendly. I miss many of my contacts now ... Bing, Fred Astaire ... Always keep a special place in my heart for Glenn. ... miss him too. Thanks again. Best Regards.

Just recently a spent the better part of a day watching three separate Glenn Ford films back to back on the Turner Classics channel. I had never before realized what an excellent actor he was, probably because his acting appeared so natural it didn't seem like he was acting at all. But in each of these three films he played very different characters and his versatility as an actor was really apparent. One of them was an obscure western I had never even heard of before called "The Fastest Man Alive" and his character was very complex. I don't think many other actors of his day could have conveyed the role as naturally as he did. This bio was very informative and I enjoyed learning more about the life of one of Hollywood's greatest talents.

I personally like the videos that Jerry Skinner provides for the KZbin community. I also enjoy listening to his voice as it is unique, very southern (I believe) as well as soft spoken. This is the kind of voice that would help a high school student to listen in order to learn a complex subject as it is very calming. I enjoyed this video on Glenn Ford as I also enjoyed his acting. I also enjoyed his video on Dan Blocker who played Hoss Cartwright on the long running television show Bonanza. Jerry was on location where the Cartwright's home and store were shown to viewers. This is an in depth look at the life of a celebrity and I liked the way in which Jerry conveyed this information, it added depth to Blocker and he made me feel like I had known this man. Not many people can do this. By showing viewers pictures of what buildings and houses belonged to him and how those buildings sit today add layers to a persons history and I enjoyed this perspective. The other video that I can recommend whole heartedly is on Billy the Kid. As a young kid growing up in New Mexico, Billy was a sort of anti hero people could relate to. Jerry has filmed areas where some of the action had taken place. His work combines photos taken at the time with camera work visiting these historical places that have been preserved. For those viewers who cannot make it to New Mexico to view where Billy was supposed to hang, where the sheriff was shot in the street, where his employer and friend John Tunstall was murdered this is as good as anything on the History Channel. And the fact that Jerry is doing these videos for free speaks volumes of his passion (to me anyway) to tell important stories from the past. I appreciate his effort.

I never thought of Glenn Ford as a great actor, but with the right supporting cast, he could and did often do sensational work. Such films as GILDA, A STOLEN LIFE, and DEAR HEART showed just what the man was capable of when he was surrounded by high class talent.

+Jerry Skinner - Sadly he is all but forgotten. If people know him at all it would be from "Gone With the Wind." He was one of my fathers favourites, and one of mine, but most only a tiny percentage of people would know who he is, today. He never made a classic, like Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart or Bogart and so forth. To be fair, I didn't know Glen Ford, other than a face I recognise, either for the same reasons.

As the years have gone by I have noticed how much I have enjoyed the various movies of Glenn Ford. This video is a great intro. I like the Jerry Skinner's accent. I congratulate him on his pronunciation of Glen's Welsh name Gwyllyn. As a Welshman it came as a surprise to find out, fairly recently, about Glenn's ancestry. Most non-Welsh have trouble with the double L in his name. You did fine Jerry.

All these old actors & actresses, especially those who died tragically, took something from us when they left this world & our lives were never really the same afterward. Dean, Holden, Ladd, Cooper, Glenn Ford, even Roy Rogers & Dale Evans, Gene Autry, acting icons of our days, cast an indelible print on our souls that can never really be explained or understood. I'm sure today's youth lament the passing of Kobain, Belushi, Jerry Garcia feel the same loss.

I've been a working actor since 1956. There was something "special" about Ford's acting, like nothing I've ever seen on screen, before, or since. A level of complete naturalness that still stands on its own. I had no idea that he had a lifelong affair with Rita Haworth, his co-star on "Gilda." I guess the heat on the set was real! As an alcoholic in recovery I can tell you, whether he admitted it or not (and with all due respect) Glenn Ford had a drinking problem, which got way worse as he grew older, over the years. I enjoyed him on film so much, but in real life his drinking was known and made him a difficult man to deal with. Not surprised he wasn't on great terms with his ex wives. Being married to an active alcoholic is hell.... for any wife who starts out hopeful and caring. And the trajectory for untreated alcoholism is terrible for all concerned - most of all, for the drinker himself.

Thank you. I had a smaller number of very favorite actors...Glenn Ford was among them. I liked very much too Bill Holden who made a western with Glenn around 1940 or so...a fine movie and it is so good and interesting to know they were best friends. I thought these 2 young actors had a chemistry on screen...apparently they never made another one together.(I did see Glenn in the "Sacketts" with Ben Jonson, etc in 1987, Glenn, near70 and looked great.

Eleanor Powell was the best dancer in Hollywood history, beautiful and an angel living and taking care of her mother, the same as Ford. She gave up her career to be his wife and mother to their kid, a match made in heaven like that should be cherished not trashed as evidenced by his relationships with Rita Hayworth who slept with all her co-stars and devoted to nobody...I wish I had a woman that was one tenth of the woman Eleanor Powell was.

+Franklin NJ I agree. Ford was a womanizer. Hayworth was indeed, feigning her lifestyle, as a "victim" but she became an alcoholic. Powell, was the top dancer many years, and deserved better.

The documentary is not completely accurate regarding Glenn's wife Eleanor Powell. After Eleanor married Glenn it is not true that she completely gave up her career to be a wife and mother. Eleanor married Glenn in 1943 but by 1947 Eleanor was back to performing in nightclubs. Eleanor went on tour throughout the United States in 1947 with a nightclub act in which she dazzled audiences with her non-stop dancing for one hour per show. In 1948 Eleanor performed in Las Vegas. In 1949 Eleanor performed her energetic tap dancing in Scotland and at the London Palladium. In 1950, Eleanor danced a lively boogie woogie tap in an Esther Williams musical. In 1952 she danced for the first time on television along with acting in two skits which you can see here on KZbin. In 1953 she did a nightclub dancing engagement for eight weeks. From 1953 to 1955 Eleanor starred in a religious TV program (not dancing) in which she read Bible stories to little children. The show was called "Faith of Our Children." The show won an Emmy. This documentary also states that after Glenn Ford and Eleanor Powell divorced in 1959 that she returned to charity work. That is not completely true because of one glaring omission. After Eleanor's divorce from Glenn she spent a year getting back into dancing shape and returned to her career as a dancer in television and nightclubs. In fact you can see some of her television appearances in the early 1960's right here on KZbin such as the Bell Telephone Hour and a TV appearance in which she dances with Caterina Valente. So as you can see, Eleanor Powell did not totally collapse into the dutiful housewife after she married Glen Ford. There was still life in Eleanor Powell before, during and after Glenn Ford.

Why on earth would he want to be unfaithful . Eleanor Powell was the most beautiful woman ever to come out of Hollywood imo. She gave it all up for him and he repaid her with Rita Hayworth not a patch on Eleanor. It angers me when people say she aged badly. Is it any wonder.
