I can't believe how much I liked this. I thought no way will this be good. It was very good. Yes Carl can still play the hell out of his drums, and still examines his drum stick tips for wear just like when he was a kid. Say what you want about the silly faces, that guitarist did some incredible fret work trying to emulate the late great Keith Emerson keyboard playing. Wish I could play guitar like that. Really enjoyed it. Thanks Carl for still carrying the ELP message. True genius.

I was about to say that the guitarist gets into it. I saw another video of them in a smaller club and he loves engaging the crowd. To me, he favors Carl. I wonder if he's his son?
@RockWillkeepOnRollin3 жыл бұрын
You know, the aging drummer still has it and given his age, he does seem to struggle but still is able to pull it off. Before I saw this, it wasn't him I was concerned with. Then I started watching and...holy shit, no keyboards. And then I saw how the bassist and guitarist incorporated Emerson's parts (and Lake's for that matter) and yes as you said for the most part it is enjoyable. I still wish there was a keyboardist but then how do you follow the master. No, I thought, this is something completely different and then watching it all I thought yes this is great. Most guitarists I hear of this caliber lean towards a Van Halen or Steve Vai sound to be accepted. This guy has carved his own niche, doesn't sound like a Van Halen clone doing ELP but has definitely his own style here. Where's this guy been? Very good.
@RockWillkeepOnRollin3 жыл бұрын
I had only watched up to Trilogy so I'm writing this after the fact of continuing to watch this. This guitarist is incredible the way he has two hands on the fretboard and utilizes the odd vibrato on his chords...beautiful. If only more guitarists played like this.
@RockWillkeepOnRollin3 жыл бұрын
Did I say the aging drummer is "struggling" ( I did mean it in a kind way of assumption due to his age). Fuck was I wrong. The drum solo proves Carl is ageless. This guy still has it. People can mention every other rock drummer in the book. As far as I am concerned they still have to answer to Carl Palmer...period. I mean Neil Peart, Mike Portnuoy, Ian Paice...whomever all great drummers in their own right, naturally. But Carl is still the man!

It's wonderful to see Carl Palmer in such a great shape, keeping alive the flame by promoting great music from ELP. And they made more than covering it; they translate it to new arrangements. This is the best compliment they could ever do to Keith Emerson and Greg Lake. They gave a reinterpretation, a new life to it. And at same time Palmer discovered two great and talented musicians. meant no disrespect. I idolized Greg as a young bass player, and now as an old keyboardist, I can never say enough about Keith and what he did for all styles of music. He took the incredible complexity of classical music, and combined it with the showmanship of rock. There are plenty of guys raving about old American blues this and that, but I thank ELP for exposing me to European classical and the like.
