These stereotypes are very much a North Jersey thing, these kind of people down the shore (like almost everyone on the Jersey Shore cast) are all Bennys. I'm originally from Jersey City as a kid but moved more west w/ family. West of like say Parsippany imo is where the stereotypes start breaking down, especially accent-wise, and once you're in like Western Morris, Sussex, Warren, Hunterdon etc. the accent gradually merges into more an eastern PA thing. Imo there's a big ethnic component too, because these stereotypes are 100% a white people thing! None of the black or hispanic people I grew up around in JC were like this.

I grew up in New Jersey (Elizabeth and Newark) ... but left the state about 15 years ago. And my Jersey accent has followed me wherever I go. I've lived in California, Nevada, Illinois and Florida... and the moment I start speaking, people know I'm from Jersey. All because of that stupid Jersey Shore show. Some of the best episodes is a 2 parter. “You’re getting old” and “Ass burgers”. Probably some of the most serious episodes they ever did. Tackles the reality of depression and changes in someone’s life if an accurate and funny way. Definitely check those two out if no one recommended them to you.
