Can you please answer me, How the color grading, sound editing & mixing workflow has done? And where you render the final delivery? Like if you use resolve for color and another software for sound. Then where is finalized everything for delivery. Or did you used premiere for everything? Thanks you so much for sharing your workflow. Learned a lot.

Hey mate, any reason you're not using File > Merge Clips > In Point (after marking an in point on the picture and sound at the clap point)? That should pair your audio and picture in a master clip that would work just like your nested sequences do, but wouldn't require collapsing the nest for delivery.
@mhcolby5 жыл бұрын
I believe it's because you create a new master clip reference and you don't preserve the link to the original master clips which can cause headaches further in the process. I've heard that Merged clips are consider a "legacy feature" that lines up with older Premiere workflows. I've also heard of making all your syncs multicam sequences as the "flatten multicam" button makes un-nesting super easy down the line.

Does Nesting the clips have any hassle when it comes to delivering for Mix?
@santinx61853 жыл бұрын
I think that for that you need to un-nest them, because yeah, I think it will bring problems for mix and color.

Is there any good editing software that runs on Linux (Mint)? How much do they cost to buy?
@JerseyFilmmaker6 жыл бұрын
max bootstrap to be quite honest with you, I haven’t the slightest idea :/. I don’t have any experience with Linux and wouldn’t want to give you just researched info without experience ... sorry !!!

+JerseyFilmmaker : Oh, looks like the Blackmagic software is free, and they have a Linux version. Is that good, bad, ugly... and capable? Also, will software suites like this take video formats from other camera makers (so you can shoot with many cameras and edit clips all together)?

Davinci Resolve is a good suite but requires a crapton of resources computerwise and isnt as optimized as Final Cut X or adobe. I have used all three cross platform and My Rankings Go 1 - Adobe (Best All Round Edit Suite, Industry Standard) 2 - Final Cut X (Best for Easy Edits and Powerful if you have a Mac) 3 - Davinci (Best for Coloration and Grading). I have all three and they all have their unique purposes.

+Clayton Little : Thanks for the tips. I have a fast 16-core/32-thread Threadripper CPU with fast memory, two fast 1TB SSDs, GTX1080ti GPU. That makes me hope the slower speed of DR won't matter too much. A couple people in youtube reviews said DR takes advantage of many cores very well, so looks like I'll go with DaVinci Resolve and Fusion as my first try. Supposedly, v14 is quite a bit better than earlier versions.
@champbball86 жыл бұрын
I am running a MBPr with a dual core 4 thread i7 so the adobe and final cut optimizations really help. Davinci utilizes RAM very well. Threadripper should have no problem ripping through footage on Resolve. You are limited with the amount of tracks if you dont pay for the Davinci studio licence but other than that if you have a good graphics card you should be ready to rip through the footage.

If you want an industry standard NLE Avid has Media Composer First which is a simplified version of the full program but the restrictions are hard to notice. You could use. that till you upgrade to the full version. Avid is one of the leading feature film editing software developers. The new film Mary Poppins Returns was cut on Avid along with the Avengers. Life of Pie and almost every film you can think of since the advent of NLE editing. Apart from Deadpool 1 cut on Premiere pro along with Hail, Caesar!. And they used LightWorks on The Wolf Of Wallstreet. The NLE you use hardly matters it's the talent cutting it together but if you want to enter the mainstream editing world Premiere and Avid are the ones you should learn and Premiere only has Trial but Avid has a non-commercial version so practice learning with that. It is still the leading NLE you would be surprised how many modern films are cut on it. It's like the Arri Alexa of NLE you could have shot on RED and some films are but Arri is still the leader it's the same with Avid. Hopefully, this was helpful.
