Full PPE even at a car fire. I damaged my throat and lungs at a car fire resulting from a grass and woods fire that might have been a meth lab. Both myself and my partner went down due to toxic smoke. Had and beat throat cancer last year so you all protect yourselves at each and every fire.

Nice job by the fire crews and officers. Started with water which puts out most car fires, that didn’t work. Quickly moved on to some in line foam/chem followed by regular foam which didn’t work. Foam is most useful on flammable liquids, which this clearly wasn’t. Finally succeeded with the dry chem extinguisher on the ev batteries. Good job getting the speedy dry down in front of the storm drain. Most rigs are only required to carry 1 dry chem extinguisher, fortunately they had enough units on site if they needed more dry chem extinguishers. FDNY has a dedicated purple k unit for electrical fires along with e bike and ev battery fires. Many local departments are starting to carry multiple dry chem extinguishers or contract with local fire extinguisher service companies to provide on scene delivery of larger quantities of these extinguishers when needed. Great video

Move the engine away because of the gas fire...that's a good idea! Three or four years ago the station just a few blocks from my house lost the engine at a commercial structure fire. The building was a few feet above the level of the parking lot, all of the sudden some tank of flammable liquid inside the building failed and the burning liquid came pouring out of a roll-up door that was open and they were flowing water into. I talked to one of the VFF who was there. He said, with no warning of any kind, this wave of burning liquid came pouring out the door and they just dropped the hose lines and ran for their life's. There was no hope of saving the engine. So, moving the engine so it's no longer downhill of a flammable liquid fire, good move.

Years ago we were not so concerned by eating some smoke. Best to be sale and save the lungs.

In many fire videos, the start of extinguishing is really slow. This is due to the fire hydrant system and its failure, or bad ways of working, long distances. Europe and the Nordic countries, fire trucks have large water tanks and extinguishing foam for car fires. This achieves fast action, which is important to prevent the spread of fire. For example, we extinguish a car fire with foam in tens of seconds ... minutes. Of course, there are also differences in car fires, they can be difficult depending on the size of the car etc. In the majority of car fires, we put them out very quickly. In America, the car fire is turned off three times and still it starts up again...🙂 Additional training, equipment development, they would be needed in many fire stations in America.

@@seato412b In addition to the height, the worst problem with the fire in the London tower blocks was that the buildings were covered with easily flammable insulation board, which is why the fire spread explosively fast. The fire department that arrived on the scene was no longer able to prevent the fire from spreading. This would have been the worst nightmare for any fire department

This is crazy I have never seen this many fire fighters and equipment to a single car fire in the open. We send one engine and one medic to every car fire unless on the highway then two engines and a medic unit is dispatched. Hell we send two engines two medic units and one truck to residential structure fires unless its confirmed to be a working fire then you will get another engine and medic and sometimes another truck added to the call.

We NEVER send anything other than a single engine on a car fire. (as long as there are no exposures) Even when we only had 500 gallon tanks. I have yet to run out of tank water on anything up to a full sized van. But you should have more equipment on structure fires. We have 3 engines, 2 ladders, a heavy rescue, medic, and chief on basic structure fires. A working fire gets another engine, ladder, medic, chief, along with a safety officer, EMS supervisor, and the air supply truck.

What would be the problem with just letting the gasoline burn itself out and the units stand by to prevent it spreading? I was thinking the same thing. Take the same approach that would be used on a tank truck or even tank farms. It’s easier(and sometimes better) to just stand by and let it burn. All the resources are in place to protect the surroundings and the citizens. There are multiple engines, a quint, EMS, and law enforcement. If there is still gasoline draining from the vehicle after the fire is extinguished, it now creates a haz mat incident that needs to be controlled. Not to mention the potential for an unexpected ignition of the raw gasoline leaking and pooling in the area of the vehicle. Get all the appropriate water and foam lines in place and ready to go, secure a water supply, and stand by while it burns off.

At 8 minutes +- "Hey look at that, there's some fire under the car.. Wow!" My volunteer department would take 3 guys, the mini and fog that gas fire down, while another line dealt with the car. Maybe even put some of the white stuff on the red stuff.

Aspirated (aerated) foam, either A or B class would have extinguished the gasoline fire by blanketing (smothering). Non aspirated foam achieves nothing as per the video.

Looks like they are letting gas burn off rather than run down the street into a storm drain. If that is true, good work guys, smart move.

Why didn’t they use the PKP first, all that water and foam was good to suppress but the powder put it out ?

A car fire. Three engines, one truck, and an ambo.. No exposure threat. Fifteen minutes to extinguish. I'd hate to know what the taxes are around there.

Why not hit a hydrant on the way in?? Seems like wasted time to run a line to a hydrant after you run out.
@stevenm6301
@stevenm6301 2 жыл бұрын
Because it wastes time getting water on that fire. Get set up and get a line in place. 750 gallons on an 1-3/4" fog is a lot of time. Engineer can secure water supply during that time.

I don't think it wastes time. I was taught 50 years ago to lay in leave one man at hydrant. The pump operator starts water supply and the rest of the crew uses the hand lines.

From a layman’s point of view that’s a lot of equipment and manpower to put down a simple car fire. I’m not trying to be a smart ass, I just don’t get it. In similar videos they send one truck and maybe a medic.

How come so many resources went to one car on fire? I counted 4 trucks of varying types, an ambulance, several police cars, fire service officer cars. In the UK that would have got one fire engine and that's it. More if next to a building, or on a highway but on a quiet street like that just the one truck would get sent.
