Ocean County - Brick - Two Alarm Structure Fire - 53 Burnt Tavern Rd - Fully Involved Structure.
Around 4:12 AM Brick Township Police received a call for a reported structure fire in the Herbertsville section of town. Upon the arrival of PD, they confirmed the working fire & that it was fully involved in flames. Dispatch then struck the auto second alarm for a working fire. First arriving Fire Officers sized it up as a one-story wood frame fully involved. At first, it was reported that people may have still been inside the structure, but fire officers quickly found out everyone got out safe. First, due engine 2471 arrived on the scene and promptly stretched a 1.3/4 line to the front door while they hooked up to a hydrant down the road. The first due ladder 2435 took the front of the structure. Shortly after streching water was on the fire. A full response from Brick Township district 2&3 with rescues and engines from 21&22. Point Pleasant Boro also was dispatched to the scene as the FAST TEAM. The cause of the fire is currently unknown to me at this time and is under investigation by the Brick Township Fire Bureau. No other injuries were reported.

That's an important question, its a shame people are so busy demonstrating their own stupidity to focus on an actual answer. Was it an inability to operate the engine, focusing on permanent water supply instead of using tank water to make the initial attack, some other mechanical issue?

Today's class is : when the GPMS =BTMS the fire goes out. Why not use ur deck gun on the AB corner to darken down the main body of fire and treat? Use ur booster tank to punch that fire in the face! The B exposure is the priority now. Several cars with fuel tanks will add to the already heavy fire load. First hand line must be ur 2.5! No one is going in until the main body of fire is knocked down. All ur personally walking around could assist with a supply line too.. Two 1.3/4 handlines on exposure buildings., then once cooled advance on fire building. Remember fire goes out when the GPMS =BTMS. stay positive.

@virgilhilts3924
@virgilhilts3924 7 ай бұрын
Since you are being reasonable (unlike most YT commenters) I'll explain. First, given the situation it really didn't take an unreasonable amount of time, especially considering these are volunteers. Next, there was no rescue profile (per PD and visual indicators) as this was a heavily involved house, so trying to do a quick-attack with tank water on such a fuel load is going to be relatively pointless. They instead chose to do a reverse-lay to the hydrant with an attack line and drop a LDH supply line as well, this takes time and means the Engine cannot pump until it is parked. Doing so means they can start to work the fire while tapping the hydrant to feed the Truck and next in Engine, which will now have better access due to the first Engine moving to the hydrant. A reverse-lay will add a bit of time to first water (meaningless as it was already non-survivable and a loss) but it will allow for a better overall fight in that it provides access to more volume faster. Look at it this way... If the first in had went for a quick attack they would have emptied their tank before making significant progress on such an advanced fire load, then have to wait to either hand-jack a supply line or have another Engine arrive and then lay in. This was a perfectly reasonable job, especially considering these are volunteers.

House burned up child in attic couldn't get to her because ladder truck out for repairs or this poorer town didn't have the revenue to immediately repair. Why does it take so long to turn on the engine tank pressure to the hose? They could have at least saved the car in front. The structure was basically a total loss before they arrived IMHO. I've seen many FF videos and long delays in charging the hoses seems to be a common issue. Some departments do it in less than a minute, others seem to take forever. Why? Three minutes into the video before there is water on the fire. Also why not deploy the deck gun for a quick 20 second blast? If they don't have a deck gun, why not? Seems like a great tool for certain situations. My intent is not to be disrespectful of firefighters, I respect and appreciate them. But all of us in life can learn from critique, reflection and self improvement. I think after each fire call, departments should (if not doing this), have a short meeting to discuss what went well and what can be improved.

That applies to using a Deck Gun as well, in fact DG's are less effective in that they cannot be maneuvered the way hand-lines can, thus they are less effective for most situations. People who shout "Deck Gun!" are people who have never used one, but they think it makes them sound cool because they heard someone on YouBoob say it. This was a perfectly reasonable job, especially considering these are volunteers.

Great video and good job firefighters! Thank goodness no one was injured. Y’all catch a lot of heat, literally and figuratively, and much of it is unwarranted. The wood house was fully engulfed, plus it kept flaring-up. Ignore the cruel comments: Only y’all are there, know the area and conditions you face. One question: Were y’all able to save the Challenger? Special place in my heart for muscle cars….Mustang owner here, too. Y’all keep safe out-there.

Maybe I’m wrong but firefighters should be accountable as to how long it takes them to get to a fire and ESPECIALLY how long it takes them to get water onto the fire. They are used to fires so it’s no big deal for them, meanwhile somebody’s whole life’s belongings is going up in smoke.

BIG FIRE BIG WATER, use the BIG gun on top of the Eng, that turret would have knock 90% of that red stuff down, and not a 1.75 ether, you need 2.5 for that kind of fire.. Oh, and yes tank to pump. 33+ in the fire service and I still don't know why some Dept. don't even think about the deck gun, it just boggles my mind, if there was ever a time to use it, it was on this one!

you can hear the one guy at the 2 minute mark yelling wheres the water, 1st line charged at 2:33 i mean once he had water he did a bang up job of getting a knock down on the front, and in reference to the hand ladders one of the 23's LT told Bobby start throwing ladders, start working no other direction lol, I mean the fire was self venting pretty well at that point and guranteed that roof was soft so pointless to work the roof safely, i mean for this department i have seen much worse in the past, they had a good initial knockdown on the exterior in 7 minutes, so are they actually having the first or second due engine actually lay a supply from the hydrant besides hand jacking one after the fact?

As it was fully involved and have a tower ladder as first due truck company why deploy it during overhaul and not during fire attack? Now notice i didn't say initial attack but as soon as a positive water supply was established why not use it? I vas a vol for 2 years & everyone lived like within a mile or 2 from the fire house so our response time from time of dispatch to first unit responding was 5 min (for us that was good, but that was back in 2000 things have changed since i left)

110%!! They are giving their own time. They have jobs, families, friends, and still take time to serve the community as best they can. They go to fires and accident scenes where they see horrible things no one should have to see. Should NJ have more pros who are 10 seconds from the apparatus at any given time, ready to go, given that the taxes are so sky high? Absolutely. But they don't, and volunteers do their best to fill that gap. Then we have people on the crapper on their phones criticizing them for it, who wouldn't know which part of an extinguisher to aim at a fire. I'm not a FF, but I worked with a couple volunteers, and their lives were always being disrupted by going on calls at any time they were needed.
