My dad was a fireman and fought a lot of forest fires when it was 100 and over outside. The fire, or course makes it's own heat too. One day I said, at least you can turn the hose on each other. He said, no, if any water gets inside of their suits they will get terrible steam burns!! So, yes, like you said, very impressive!!!
@nicke19032 жыл бұрын
I've fought fire in 103° weather,it was a large 4 bedroom house,ended up having to go defensive(outside only) it was too far gone when we got there. All your bunker gear on, on air,and actively fighting fire.....it was hot, rotating crews every 10-15 min, there was dept's from all over the county for manpower, a large rehab was set up to help recover from the stress, about 3 rotations and you was all but exhausted....basically if its summer time, putting your gear on and doing anything outside sucks and is hot, but if you get inside a house with moderate fire, it gets intense.

@@susanlindsay7970 see now in my opinion those guys are crazy and tougher than a Pine Knot, Brush/Woods Fires werent my faves, depends on what all it involved, guaranteed a walk- in to the fire, question was is "how far". The part of the U.S. you're in matters too, ANYTHING out West is a different animal by far than anywhere else, the fuels and environmental are like no where else, we don't have that here along the WNC Mtns. Always respect those Wildland guys n gals, their crazy lol.
@susanlindsay79702 жыл бұрын
@@nicke1903 Yes, you are right. My father worked in Los Angeles, so he had buildings as well as wild fires. He was a captain, his job was to "go in" first, figure out what needed to be done, shout the directions to everyone. He got hurt a few times having to go in first to a building. They have to figure out how much time they have before the roof caves in. A lot of people don't know it's against the law to store stuff in their make shift attic cuz the firemen don't know it's there and the roof might fall in because of the weight that they weren't counting on. In CA the owner would be responsible if something happened to the fireman because of that.

@@46fd04 Diesel powered fire trucks can be refueled in minutes for both the engine and the water pumps. If fire trucks go all electric, they have to take a long time to be recharged after the batteries are used up. If one fire happens immediately after another, those fire trucks will not be able to be dispatched right away. The EU has gone the wrong path of eliminating fossil fuel power plants. Now the people in Europe are suffering shortages of electricity and soaring prices of electricity.
@46fd042 жыл бұрын
@@simon6071 Simon, I hear you and understand all of your points. The 2 electric fire trucks we will be placing in service come equipped with small diesel generators. When the batteries get low, the small diesel engine will kick in. The Fire Service went from HORSE power, to HUMAN power, to STEAM power, to GASOLINE & DIESEL power. Diesel is the BEST to operate equipment & water pumps. I will not be a fan of the future electric age, until all of our States & Provinces figure out adequate electric generation. I believe we will be forced to continue using Natural Gas for MANY years to come, in addition to building more NUCLEAR facilities.
