He's providing some useful info, but at bottom he's a Zionist in maintaining that Israel should have a state on 78% of the land it held after 1967, which allows the Palestinians, whose numbers are roughly equsl to those of Israelis only 22% of tgeir homeland. Testimony in the International Court of Justice confirmed international law that the ingenous Palestinians have the exclusive right to self-determination (to form snd maintain a state comprising their homeland and that the indigenous have the exclusive right to resist the occupying settler-colonial power orchestrating their dispossession of land, liberty, and life. If the Palestinians, once free of coercion, decide to share their homeland, the world must respect that decision, but likewise solidarity means we must respect their right not to share their homeland. Too many allegedly anti-Zionist analysts cite international law opposing but obscure what it actually says in regard to the rights of Palestinians. They speak of the existence of Israel as though it were a settled matter, and they refer to Hamas as terrorist; moreover, they decry the alleged random violence against "innocent civilians" 😮on Oct. 7, 2023. There are no innocent Israeli civilians under 18, and those killed or injured deserve no sympathy. Any objective view has to take into account the preposterous idea that a carefully-planned, complex military mission like the one executed by Hammas freedom fighters on Oct. 7, 2023 would allow time for engagement in mass rapes and atrocities against r Israelis. The ridiculous story of Hamas' committing mass rapes or any rapes rests on an unquestioning acceptance of Zionist ideology and a bigoted idea that Arabs, in this case Palestinians, are not fully human, that they are so bestial and vengeful that they would risk their mission and their very lives by indulging their lust and hatred of any Israeli infidels in their power. They allegedly have no motivation to protect their people from the ravages of the settler-colonial occupation that had greatly intensified over the last two decades, particularly in the last two years. The goal of the very dangerous mission was to capture Israelis and keep them in good health, as Hamas has demonstrably done, in order to gain freedom for the tens of thousands of Palestinians, many in their early teens, suffering in Israeli prisons without having even being charged in many cases. The Hamas militants trained for many months, as former US military intelligence officer and UN weapons inspector 🎉Scott Ritter has noted, and were well aware that they were under tremendous time pressure with lethal drones circulating near them at all times. (The level of precise planning and training has been amply demonstrated in recent months by Hamas' clear military superiority to the Israeli Defense Forces, the IDF, which can only bomb and kill civiians and has been unable to realize any of its military objectives in securing areas of Gaza, wiping out Hamas, and recovering Israeli hostages.) After cutting Israeli surveillance capabilities on Oct. 7, Hamas overpowered all the military checkpoints controlling the eastern border of Gaza and took captives. Most Israeli deaths came from Israeli pilots instructed to fire indiscriminately from Apache helicopters at Hamas' vehicles driving back into Gaza with captives and from the IDF's firing and tank attacks on kibbutzim homes perceived to harbor Hamas fighters along with potential Israeli captives. The IDF's Hannibal doctrine posits that the foremost Israeli consideration is the prevention of hostage-taking, even at the expense of the hostages' lives, lest Israel lose face and have to release any Palestinian prisoners. Even the rabidly Zionist "Times of London" has recently rejected the myth of mass rapes on Oct. 7. Furthermore, all Israelis at 18, except for the Orthodox, are mandated to serve in the occupying army, 2 years for females, 3 for males, so they are either active-duty military or fully- trained reservists, not "innocent civilians." Most Israeli hostages taken on Oct. 7 were residents of two kibbutzim, militarized "frontier" strongholds designed to carry out Israel's expansion over many decades through violently dispossessing Palestinians of land, livelihood, and, not infrequently, life and limb.

We are becoming immune to the suffering of people ALL PEOPLE by the politics of the US and it's Western allies from Ukraine to Gaza A heartfelt plea for the return of humanity to our politicians and our society from a real human being . The dead children don’t affect me like they used to. The images. The videos. They still disturb and horrify, but not like they did in the beginning. Not anywhere close. And, honestly, I hate it. I hate that that part of me has been stolen. As much as I hated having my heart kicked around all day and having nightmares all night, I’d rather have that than this decreased sensitivity. People should not become desensitized to such horrors. People should not become accustomed to decapitated babies and small, mangled bodies. To corpses run over by tanks. To body parts carried in plastic bags by loved ones. These things should jar you. They should rattle you to your core. But they don’t anymore. Not here. I held onto it for as long as I could. It felt like a solemn duty, to hold on to that part of me that still screamed with an appropriate mixture of grief and outrage at the latest tiny shredded body. But desensitization sets in whether you want it to or not. That’s how they create soldiers, after all. I hate that these pricks have amputated that part of me, and I hate that I know it will never grow back. I have been permanently disfigured inside, mutated by atrocities, all the way down here safe in the Melbourne suburbs. And I hate that this is happening all around the world to everyone else who’s kept their gaze fixed on Gaza. All around the world humanity is being mutated. All around the world something sacred is being stolen from the hearts of good people. All around the world people are finding callouses where there used to be tenderness. And I want my tenderness back, god damn it. I want my tenderness back. Give me back the nightmares. Give me back the tears. Give me back the dry retching over the toilet, and the shaking under the blankets. Give me back the collapsing onto the couch and not moving for several hours until my system can recover from what my eyes just saw. I’ll take it. I’ll take it all back again. Just give me back that soft, tender part of myself that has been withered to dust by a live-streamed genocide. I will take good care of it. I will feed it good things. I’ll give it plenty of sunshine, cupping it delicately in my hands by the window. I will take it for walks, and let it rejoice at the children running and playing, with their parts all together and their insides on the inside. Don’t leave me hardened and darkened like a soldier. Give me back that soft, sacred part of myself that weeps at the corpses of children, so I can behold the world gently again.

Like you, I dread the numbness that has inevitably scarred my feelings after seeing so much inhumanity having watched those dreadful videos that leave you feeling utterly helpless after all these months having past. My only consolation has been that I have been fortunate enough to make a few substantial donations to Palestine, and in addition, to avoid the temptation of reading and watching the insane cruelty in order to punish my senses in the forlorn hope that it might force me to do more to act. In fact it it has the opposite effect, and does me no good at all. I hope that you will also find a way that works for you, so that you can be moved to make a more positive contribution to the situation. Even just sharing your experience by writing about it as you have done so honestly, is a sure sign of your compassion and/or empathy for the terrible suffering. We are only human, and that is an affirmative consolation in itself, despite our weaknesses. Free Palestine!

Wait a minute... you criticise the steps that the Israeli government is taking in order to annex east Jerusalem... While I do think criticism is a good and important thing, I do also think that if you criticise someone, you should be able to bring to the table another option that you think is better than the one you criticise... I'm sure you agree that just saying this is wrong, without pointing to what's right, is not very serious or professional.
