Back in 1978 my best friend Tony Vasquez began singing in churches at the age of 18. He ordered backtracks from Clarion music and each track also had a polished produced version so you could see how it's sung. I use to watch him practice and I fell in love with this song.....sung by this exact singer on that old cassette tape. I didn't think I would ever find this artist again, as the song was not on a normal consumer album. I've never heard this song sung so well by anyone else. I'm so glad I found this song again. That was over 40 years ago and I'm glad that now that I'm 60.....I can listen to this song and get ready to walk those streets of gold with my beloved Savior. Amen!!!!!!!

The Lord woke me at 3am with this melody in my heart. I had to look up the words which I had never heard, and finally found them here. I cannot explain the impact upon my soul that this song impressed upon my soul. The magnitude of our salvation from this sinful world by the death of Jesus on that lonely cross, opened wide the gates to all who would come, to the Holy City, The New Jerusalem, to come for evermore.

Last night I lay asleeping There came a dream so fair I stood in old Jerusalem Beside the temple there I heard the children singing And ever as they sang Methought the voice of Angels From Heaven in answer rang "Jerusalem, Jerusalem! Lift up your gates and sing, Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna to your King!" And then methought my dream was chang'd The streets no longer rang Hushed were the glad Hosannas The little children sang The sun grew dark with mystery The morn was cold and chill As the shadow of a cross arose Upon a lonely hill "Jerusalem, Jerusalem! Hark! How the Angels sing, Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna to your King!" And once again the scene was changed New earth there seemed to be I saw the Holy City Beside the tideless sea The light of God was on its streets The gates were open wide And all who would might enter And no one was denied No need of moon or stars by night Or sun to shine by day It was the new Jerusalem That would not pass away "Jerusalem! Jerusalem Sing for the night is o'er Hosanna in the highest Hosanna for evermore!"
@Txboy85A
@Txboy85A 9 жыл бұрын
I found out today that the word "hosanna" means "oh save now" or "please save" and when you add "in the highest", it literally brings it to mean "Please save (me) to the highest level/capacity. Hosanna in the highest, oh Lord!

We are truly blessed - with music like this and a tenor like this. Maybe, this could have convinced me when I was a girl. Instead, ideologies were beaten into me, Prussian Protestantism at home and pre-Perestrojka GDR ideology at school. Obedience and fear of punishment used to be the strongest arguments on either side - so I stayed away from both party and church. Thirty years later and a mother myself, I deeply respect all people who by their belief become better and happier humans. My weekly fitness program (really!) is singing in a wonderful church choir, I have grown a powerful soprano and love being taken up with hymns like this. Let me listen once more...

The tenor is Charles Craig not Harry Secombe. Craig was a wonderful singer and appeared in opera all over the world. Secombe was also a very good tenor but not quite as accomplished as Charles Craig. This Holy City is from a cd produced by Testament records. available on Amazon and other classical sites. crig also recorded a disc of operatic arias as well as several operas.

Out of respect, and sola scriptura, I do not believe a gold cross should be placed on the El Kuds Moslem dome in the final illustration. The New Jerusalem foretold in Revelations will not be a city built by human hand, it is, like its inhabitants, a new creation, it is our heavenly home. Please please I beg you to exchange that last illustration with something biblically correct that befits this truly uplifting rendition.

The final scene is exactly as the composer proposed.. Stephen Adams was the Freemason grand lodge organist.. Read the esoteric " The Masonic Initiation - to all builders in the spirit" by W. L. Wilmshurst pdf.. This New Jerusalem is not built by human hands. This song is an allergory of the spiritual/mystical experience of a true grand master.
