How to Draw a Realistic Nose

This tutorial is a more advanced version of my "How to Draw a Nose" video. It focuses less on the generic formula for a nose, and more on observational drawing and shading to create a realistic rendering of a nose.
In this video, I am using a plain old HB pencil! Try to stay within the HB-2B range for general sketching. Too hard of a graphite (the higher the H, the harder the graphite) is really light and can indent the paper easily if you press too hard. The higher the B, the softer the graphite, which will create darker marks!

sometimes when I shade, my hand smudges parts of the picture that I don't want to be smudged. how do you prevent that?

As a left-handed person, I have that problem all the time! I've found that if you put a pieces of scrap paper under your hand, it keeps your hand from smudging the drawing. Otherwise, you could use a mahlstick like painters use, which is a stick with a padded end that you rest your hand on to keep it away from the paper.
