I love how the combat step is slowly becoming super important in CEDH.

My OG Omnath deck isn't cEDH by any means (though I have won on T3 more than once!), but it uses a combo during the Combat Phase thusly: I declare Ley Weaver (or Hope Tender*, or Magus of the Candelabra*, or Krosan Restorer*, or Argothian Elder if he was available in foil) as an attacker. Maze of Ith untaps Weaver (et al) which lets me untap all of my lands as many times as I want. I can Crop Rotation into Geier Reach Sanitarium (or Bonder's Enclave* or War Room* ) to draw my deck, or at least enough of it to find what I'm looking for. If I already have what I'm looking for then Emergence Zone (or Savage Summoning or Yeva, Nature's Herald) will let me cast it. If I don't have what I'm looking for then they will give Omnath flash which will save all of my all of the mana into Main Phase 2.0 where a draw=power spell will draw my library (or kill me if I did my math wrong!) But I much prefer to finish it all off before we get to the Declare Blockers step so I usually do find what I'm looking for with a card draw land, or a Summoner's Pact, or a Chord of Calling, or a Shared Summons which finds what I'm looking for, as well as Yeva which is the means to cast what I'm looking for. There's also Momentous Fall (which can use the steps of casting spells to interact with Omnath in a really interesting way) which draws the whole library during combat. What I am looking for is Duskwatch Recruiter (or Nylea, Keen-Eyed).With Duskwatch and infinimana I get all creatures to my hand (and order my deck as it turns out). With all creatures in hand I cast Yeva, Ashaya, Temur Sabertooth, Sakura-Tribe Scout, Elvish Reclaimer, and Destiny Spinner. Destiny hastes Reclaimer, and Reclaimer drops Sunscorched Desert on your face. Destiny animates Desert, Sabertooth bounces Desert, Weaver (et al.) untaps Sakura, and Sakura drops Desert on your face as many times as it takes until you stop twitching. Alternatively, I could win via Magus of the Biorythm: Shaman of Forgotten Ways, who is hasted by Destiny and Biorhythms into a world already destroyed by Kogla, Titan Ape riding a Sabertooth tiger. GG! That's how I use the combat step.

3:53 Dylan’s misplay. He was able to _cascade_ an instant or sorcery from the top of his library due to Codie’s delayed ability, because it reads _When you cast your next spell this turn,_ which happens to be Codie himself.

Came here to say this. It isn’t a may to “cascade”, the casting the spell you hit is a may. He didn’t have the option to not do it.

@@NMS127 Codie reads, and I quote from scryfall: _”Until end of turn, you may cast that card without paying its mana cost. Put _*_each other card_*_ exiled this way on the bottom of your library in a random order.”_ So, you don’t get the card back from exile unless you cast it.

so codie is not worded in a way where you don't need to cast an instant/sorcery to get the "cascade" trigger but his static prevents you from casting permanents, but if say someone uses chaos warp on codie and you happened to activate codie in response and after that decided to cast an permanent, i dunno maybe something like codie vorciferous codex, you still do get the trigger of that permanent.

I don't play Codie, but why didn't Dylan get the Codie trigger off recasting him? It was his next spell cast that turn and he could have hit anything 2 or 1 CMC, right? Since it's all part of the same paragraph doesn't that resolve on the next spell even if the initial Codie was killed? Like I said I don't play or play against Codie much so maybe I'm just misunderstanding.

It’s not because it is written in the same paragraph. Codie’s mana ability creates a delayed triggered ability that triggers when you cast your next spell, and that spell was Codie. I guess it’s easy to miss because of the you can’t cast permanent spells part.

I agree with the comment writer it's all part of that same ability and it's your next spell and casting codie should've gotten him a 2 or less off the top. I dont see a reason codie would need to be in play as it's all part of his mana ability

Was playing vs a godo deck the night before and asked the godo player, who was at 4, to walk through the win, much to the groan of the table. Got to his 3rd copy (also had ogre on field) and got him with a rakdos charm. Such an underplayed card

Godo goes brrrrr, Godo wins...but if you play the deck you will se there is a little more nuance about it...specially in timing when to go off, everybody knows what you are doing and that the combo costs 11 mana, but being coy and reading the table will get you a lot of wins that you wouldn't have if you only count to 11 and slam Godo. Sometimes just counting to 11 is enough like game 1 here :P
