As a recovering anorexic and Christian I get super frustrated when someone basically says they prayed their ED away. I lost so many friends from church because they said I was allowing my sin to be in control when I couldn’t pray my anorexia away. Eating disorders are a mental disorder, anorexia has the highest mortality rate to all mental illnesses, and it requires treatment of some sort to get through it. When you are starving or purging it isn’t about food and weight, that is simply manifestation of a deeper problem. By saying you can get better just by trusting Jesus makes young Christian girls who are dealing with an ED feeling like they aren’t a good enough Christian or failing God when they can’t just pray their illness away, and leaves them afraid of asking for more help. My anorexia almost killed me and left me with serious medical problems, and young girls need to know that asking for help is not them failing God.

I thought an ed was considered a mental health issue. You said to share our own stories. Here goes. I am a Christian and I suffer from depression. Even as a kid I remember having suicidal feelings and thoughts. Ten years ago I tried to commit suicide. I failed thank God. I have gotten a lot of mental health help. My church does not discourage getting help. I have a great support system now. Not only have I not tried to hurt myself or commit suicide again, but for time in my life I have not wanted to, or felt suicidal in ten years. I am getting a tattoo to commemorate this celebration in my life. I do believe that God has helped me through this journey. I would also like to say I have had great mental health counseling and continue to have this help. Please know that there are many Christian churches and people that don't discourage people from getting mental health help, and instead encourage people in their church to get help that they know they can't give.

I've never commented on one of your videos before, but I was disturbed by a comment that you made. You were speaking about Jinger's ED, and concerned about what type of help that she got. You put emphasis on licensed psychologists and 'professional' help, then said that Jinger and her family don't believe in that. You then said, "I don'tknow type of professional help received here, but if it's through God, I don't think God can cure this". Wow, you act as if you believe in God, or lack thereof is fact instead of opinion. Just because you don't believe in God does NOT mean that God does not exist. Furthermore, since you don't believe in God, then I'm absolutely certain that you don't believe in his divine healing. Again, your beliefs are not facts. For those of us who know that God is real, and know what God is capable, also know that he absolutely can heal or cure anyone of anythi.

Imagine how many poor Christian souls have begged and pleaded with God for their child to be cured of cancer, but the child dies, and all the people who have prayed for a cure for themselves and yet hey die. People will then say it was God's will for them to die. So why would God cure some people, but not others? Why do so many desperate pleas to God go unanswered? Do you believe that if a Christian gets a terminal illness, all they have to do is ask God to heal them and He will? We all know it doesn't usually work that way. And if they don't ask for healing from God, God will just let them die?? Everyone knows that if you get a terminal illness, you're probably going to die. It is very rare to be miraculously cured, no matter how much we want it to happen. It's pretty hard to accept thst God only answers some prayers and only cures some people, and yet it does seem that way.

I would be scared giving psychological “advice” that is god-based and unfounded. Maybe it worked for her but only a professional can be certain they’re giving sound advice for most. 😬😬😬😬 Editing my comment to say: I would feel profoundly guilty if someone took my advice as a non-professional and hurt themselves more.... 😬😬😬😬 I hope there is a huge disclaimer that everything written is not backed up by a professional or recommended.

EXCUSE ME??!! You don't "think" God can heal an eating disorder but a human can? Oh my 🙄
@rhondaleighshelly92273 жыл бұрын
God can heal a person 100%. There are licensed Christian psychologists which he just might use to help in the healing too.

I have struggled with bulimia and ARFID for 26 years. I estranged from my fundamentalist parents because of how they treated me growing up and my eating disorder. Telling me to pray it away. Either she wasn't that deep into it or she's lying and still struggling. ED are not healed with prayer. Ever. Even with the correct therapy they're extremely prone to relapse. I have no respect for any idiot who thinks diseases and conditions can be prayed away.

I feel like God can heal anything I've personally been mentally, emotionally and physically healed by God and I know too many people who have been also been healed in all these same ways. I can understand why people would feel that way though it's difficult to believe if you have never seen it or felt it happen, I was the same way. Also I do believe in traditional therapy as well , you need to seek help in anyway that you can to help yourself also.

I think it’s more common and a sign in people who don’t read much, as well as those that don’t have experience sharing their thoughts/ opinions whether it’s serious topics or in any part of life in any way really. It’s really annoying particularly bc they have experience w/ public speaking and being on tv.

This is another stretch girl. I’m pretty sure jinger is allowed to make her own decision and Jessa was just saying that typically jinger is settled when she makes a choice and not likely to bounce back and forth about things. These people have enough drama, you don’t need to be so dang desperate for content 🤣 I feel like sometimes you so incredibly biased and as much as I like you it makes it really difficult to listen. I understand and respect you don’t believe in God and don’t like this family. I also respect your effort in reporting and appreciate the one stop shopping I get for info. However I and many others don’t really care to hear your personal opinions every ten seconds. At the end of the day, I do appreciate your work and mostly enjoy your videos. Thanks for all you do.

ED is a mental health issue and is related to depression and OCD among others, but it’s pitiful how they make it seem like prayer and Gods healing is all you need to recover from VERY serious mental disorders. This is sad specifically bc of the teachings in the cult about women managing their weight and appearance with the goal to be pleasing to their husband. And that pressure bc their weight and appearance is a sign of honoring God... I feel bad for ppl who think this bc you can love god or anyone for that matter, but still have mental health issues and not getting the professional attn you need only makes them worse and take longer to improve once you finally DO get the help that is necessary from medical professionals.
