Easy Polymer Clay Cane: Simple Kaleidoscope Cane

So you've finally gotten through all the basic cane techniques. What now? Now it's time to move onto more complex canes like the kaleidoscope cane. In this video I'll be combining all the canes I've made in previous videos into a kaleidoscope cane, so gather up you're canes and let's get started.

LOVE the simplicity of this cane, yet it gives an amazing effect! I think I could make one! I've never thought I was able. I discovered Polymer Clay less than a month ago, and was immediately hooked on it. I've been experiencing different techniques and supports and must admit that the result is not so bad. But when it comes to the time of the oven, everything gets ruined (mainly cracks)! Do I have to put a special resin, or glue or what? Many thanks for your tutorials which are really great. Merci!

How do you avoid fingerprints? My big headache :(

Well this depends. If you're working with soft clays in a warm environment it's almost impossible to avoid fingerprints. There are a few tips and tricks to help you out though. 1. Smoothing out your clay before you bake it is important. The more you do before the bead's baked the better. You can use the flat side of your palm or finger to do this or you could try using a tool with a smooth edge. You could also use grease proof paper and lay that over you're bead and burnish it lightly with you're finger. This all takes quite a bit of practice, but it's worth it in the end. 2. Baking your bead in stages can also help with fingerprints. I usually bake the top part of my bead first and don't worry about getting fingerprints on the back. I focus on getting the front smooth. Then once it's baked, I work on the back, knowing that I can't get fingerprints in the front now that it's baked. 3. You could also wear gloves. This will reduce fingerprint problems. 4. Make sure you're clay isn't to soft. Soft clay is almost impossible to keep fingerprint free. I do hope that this was helpful. If not or if you're still having problems please let me know.
