Those guys just bolt on CNC made parts. J.J. blacksmiths and forges everything by hand. They are just ass puppets of Discovery network and that's why they are at where they are, because of TV money. James builds much more tasteful, ride-able bikes. OCC makes bikes for rich establishments to hang on the wall.

But on the flip-side he owns many vehicles that **many** rich people own and he actually drives them. Like his steam cars, when the hell was the last time you saw somebody else actively cruising in a steam car? . I'd have to say it balances out in the end, true that he has cars he'll never use, but also true that he gets more use out of many of his rare gems than many other people.

Anything Jay Leno touches increases in value. He has world class mechanics that work & maintain all his vehicles. His showroom is essentially a General Motors factory. Any vehicle he owns will always be in the right hands as long as he owns it. They will never deteriorate. Just watch the episodes on the 1975 Custom Plymouth Duster & his 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado. Those will give a little insight of what he is about.

IIRC typical oiling on a radial is once-through. And when it was castor oil and the pilot was still in the wind in an open cockpit, they'd land and jog for the latrines.

Nope.....a rotary engine is what you are describing...like a LeRhone where the entire crankcase and cylinders rotate with the propeller - that was WW1 technology. This a radial engine, and they use a dry sump oil system to recirculate the oil.

Looks like a lot of torque reaction like a Boss Hoss when he blips the throttle. I wonder if it's slow to rev and wind down with all that reciprocating weight. It would be challenge to ride, but worth every bit of it!

They are very smooth running engine. They don't have a very big rev range and that's what makes radicals hard to run in grounded vehicles. Gearing has to be right and depending on of it has a manual or auto trans, your stall converter or clutch has to be dead on too.

You can hear how long it takes to rev up and down in the video. The only reciprocating weight is at the crank in the very center and the why these are designed, the firing order cancels out most of the forces and vibrations cause by the pistons moving up and down.

Yeah, I know, I've seen the reviews on it. It's not so much the boots melting, it's that it's extremely impractical to drive on many levels. If you hit traffic cars near you are hosed, the bike doesn't do well at low speeds, massive throttle lag, etc. . He definitely has impractical cars/bikes, but I'd say he drives more IMPRACTICAL cars/bikes in his collection than most rich people drive PRACTICAL cars in their collection, haha.

at end of clip you see little oil coming out of exhaust pipe. This when piston rings are letting oil pass bye, or street name "blow bye". its pistons wall and soon it burn up piston rings and fallout a spark plugs. Jesse most like know motor was running ruff and burn oil because room even after first start its still kicking out smoke. Reason for first smoke when Jay started it is because old oil, burn out. Knowing Jay if he was taking it out he would ran it like a raped date, like he did with Porsche 918

+brian martuszewski Thats a typical radial engine. Oil collects in the lower cylinders then once it runs its thrown out the exhaust. after some hours of running that will go away.

Some oil maybe, some water too probably. I wouldn't assume that the rings are shot. If the bike was set up for storage oiling the bores would be SOP.

The smoke is completely normal with these engines. And yes it'll clear up in mind. They like to spit fire sometimes too because all the cylinders share one continuous exhaust pipe. Any um burnt fuel that get pushed out the exhaust valve and then ignites causing awesome fire show.
