Prince more or less said in an interview that he was teaching him a lesson that when you have a killer title for your album, you make that a song on the album. I actually respected Jesse for not doing the obvious. Princes song was great (of course), but Jesse's album kicked your funky ass into next week. Prince also said he considered the Time (and solo) his only true competition. It may have seemed rude (I never knew he offered him the song first), but he was a competitive show off like that. Thank you Jesse for telling that sweet piece of music history.

That was an incredible sharing of a story Jesse did, I thank you sir for taking the time to really share some amazing never before heard things about Prince and your daughter even. This may have been shared here in one form or another but here are a few Purple Factoids: Not only did Prince create a song out of Jesse's 'Shockadelica', the album that had no song titled as such, but Prince also sampled Sly's from 'Crazay', the 'wooowoooh!' and inserted it in '7 Minutes Mo' Quake', the extended 'Housequake' jam. They were on a musical and creative level competing and sending each other challenges as young hungry, successful recording artists. Prince was a huge Sly fan, he must of been a bit green with envy for Jesse to do that in my estimation, and may have taken the polka dot Jesse style from his Shockadelica era for the Lovesexy era as well! Also, when Jesse first when solo after leaving The Time, from what I remember reading way back in the mid 80s, one of the bits of advice Prince gave Jesse was to never.... RAP. I should try to get Jesse to confirm. But yep, don't RAP!!! Ha! That last bit of loving what you do, 100% true and you'll know it when you'll tell yourself: 'their paying me for this?!'.::Modernaire

Jesse Johnson, like the Time and Mint Condition who no one can touch. Stokely has an unbelievable Voice. His speaking voice is deep Manly. But, his singing voice you cannot tell the Falsetto from the Natural voice. A Truly Amazing Vocalist. Morris, has his unique Voice. His antics with Jerome were iconic. Prince, the Man what can you say he could play more instruments than a local High School Band. His Vocals were somewhere between Sylvester and Aretha Franklin, and Patty LaBelle. Man there are other people I can refer to but, Prince was Here himself. Stokely, I must be Honest out of all combined . Mint Condition is the Best. That is my opinion. However , they give Credit to Prince. Let's see who derived From Prince was unique Dez Dickerson, Also Mazarati. He composed for so many people. Now we cannot forget the Female version of Prince. Sheila E. Suzanna Hoff's of the Bangles belted out his song. Sheena Easton. Nothing Compared to you. The one time Hot Irish Beauty. Okay ... That shows how talented he was . He worked with Tevin.Campbell. he has a Talent when he sang Tomorrow. It was slightly reminding me of young Michael Jackson. Okay the actual.closest to Michael. Was Jason Weaver. In the Jackson an an American dream. Yes, he did his own singing. I wanna be where you are he was Spot on. I got drawn in as he personated Young Michael. Anyway, now I must ask if they would do a movie on the Life of Prince Rodger Nelson. Who would portray him. There aren't too many short men out there with his energy. The man had More energy than a NFL team. What do you think? Is what I wrote about everybody accurate ? Was I degrading or Offensive in any Way? Did I give tribute to Prince?

Sorry Jesse but you are totally lying. You must think people have bad memories. Back when P released his "Shockadelica" as a B-side you were very angry about and said as much. Now you're trying to say it was all good and "hey, do what ya gotta do." Total lie. After P died, it's been fascinating to me to watch and listen to all of these people (Jesse, Morris Day, Wendy & Lisa, Brownmark etc) from P's original early-80's "Purple Rock" camp talk about how close they were with P, how much they talked, how much love they had for him etc. All of these people talked so much shit about P for 30 years. Then, after he dies - "oh, I loved him and we got along great etc."
@plmitch7 жыл бұрын
Ivan Lendl nobody is going to completely just air out someone who they were Kool with or had love for @ one time AFTER they've died. It's just in bad taste. I actually have PERSONAL experience with someone who is well known and passed away whom I have the SAME (kinds of) issues with. Even I know enough about Prince to know that he made plenty enemies of people and WHY he made them. That being said, these people DID have personal relationships with him and they should be allowed to grieve as well. I think it's unfair to call it all fake a/o capitalization of his death (when people do that). Jesse @ least did tell the story --- one of dissent against many popular opinions of Prince being "ethereal" and GODLIKE mind you --- so it's not as "fake" as it COULD BE.....

PL phunkwephunk Appreciating someone's talent makes someone with less talent a little jealous. I loved Prince because his talent was so inspiring and exciting. He NEVER spoke ill of others.
