Jesse Johnson is most definitely, "Unsung!" He is very "gifted" in his own "unique" talents. Besides that, he is "FINE" too. If everybody was the same, it would make the whole world boring. Some people don't realize that not only is JJ a "beast" on the guitar, 🎸 he is also a writer and producer. 🎶🎼🎶 Think about that! 😘😉😘

It seems he's also playing guitarlicks throughout the interview 🤣 ,sure 🎸hero

To answer that question, the interview asked Jesse in regards to the tension between the two bands in the film purple rain. It is not stated by Jesse in this interview, but here’s the story. “Roger Troutman and Zapp” were the 2nd opening act on the controversy tour. This is where this tension that played on purple rain was created. Princes camp consisted of the time vanity six and prince of course, but The Time an Vanity6 were new unseen groups, the people who were putting had issue. He wanted to take both of them, but they only allowed him to take one. Roger and Zapp happen to be hot at the time on the charts with “More bounce to the Ounce” that year and given that they were a Warner Brothers signed act, also the powers that be pretty much pressured Prince into taking them as an opener because they knew Roger Zapp could fill black seats in the southern market Reluctantly he consented to takin them. Roger Troutman’s older brother Larry the group manager insisted ti the band that if the don’t burn the time their paychecks would feel it so the The whole thing erupted into friction that was ongoing the whole time. There was a little bit of sabotage going on and just ongoing tension between the two camps that played out on screen in the script for the movie Purple Rain. I know this because I was on The PRINCE CONTROVERSY TOUR as a Roadie for Roger Troutman and Zapp at that time in 1981-82 .

Although we know the movie was more scripted, such as Prince's father beating his mom from what we know It wasn't like that, and the times Prince was ragged on by the Time looked more like an act. I also thought the Time as a band upstaged Princ and the Revolution like the story of them throwing egg at the Time, and Jesse being nailed to a wall so to speak. As far as the band name change It seems Prince felt It's my concept, my music, and I control It. Why not Lease It to them for a small price I mean Morris tours with the band besides a few members, and as far as Jim and Terry they have become such mega producers they don't have time to devote to a band like the old days.

He said Prince and Morris was crying over some of his material. 🤔{interesting}
@WilliamWilliams-j8r6 ай бұрын
No, he didn't say "crying", he said they were "frying." They were joking on Jesse about his music and the way it sounded back then. If you listen back, you'll see and understand the context of what Jesse was saying.

I love the Condensate album. Jesse was killing that guitar on Sick. But I understand what he's saying.

That album sucked. The first 3 Time albums were great. Jerk Out was OK but those early Time albums were the bomb.

There was no synergy on Condensate, it felt like they hadn't jammed and played together in years!

Honestly, Jesse is being pretty "professional" about this. It did seem like Terry/Jimmy thought since they were the most successful producers, they could come up with the tracks for a "hit Time Album" all on their lonesome. What Jesse is talking about has nothing to do with "producers". It has to do with whether "the material" is strong enough to be on an album by a particular artist, or not. You ain't gonna hear no "filler tunes" on a Stevie Wonder or Adele CD. Nope, not gonna happen, because those artists will replace "the weak songs" and just tell the record company "if I didn't like it, then my fans ain't gonna like it...and they buy the records, not you!"! Lol
