Jesse Lacey [Brand New] Interview- 10th Feb 2012

On Friday 10th February, I was given the chance to sit down with Jesse Lacey from Brand New, before the band played at the Southampton Guildhall, part of a string of UK dates that marked their first return to our shores since their sold-out headline show at Wembley Arena in January 2010. Having the hard-earned and I'm sure highly cherished position of being in my own, personal 'top five' list of inspiring musicians in existence, and someone who has, over the course of the band's unique twelve year journey, attracted one of the largest cult followings in modern music, it wasn't an opportunity I took lightly. I certainly didn't expect the man to give me forty-five minutes of his day, and the chance to have such an honest and frank discussion about a wide range of subject matters varying from the position the band now find themselves in, to dealing with fame, the state of modern culture, and life ethics, was for me personally, a great privilege, and the sort of opportunity that I know, even at the humble age of twenty, I may never get to experience again.

I love Brand New. I love how they've grown musically. Constant metamorphosis. Perfect name as far as their band name goes... Brand New... This band, my favorite band, has made life for me better and less "miserable" to live. They'll always have a fan in me no matter what.

I always say the same. Brand New is a perfect name because each album has a brand new sound. They are the best band of the era, right with Radiohead. Jesse Lacey and Conor Oberst are the 2 best songwriting, lyricist there's been.

Nice interview!! I used to live in Southampton before moving to Canada, and I was so jealous that BN were going to England.Now they are coming to Canada finally so its all good! I can't help but think of seeing them at the Guildhall. But I can't wait for August 7th 2012! :) Love them!

The reason you got such a good interview is cause you did a great interview you asked the right questions at the right times and made Jesse comfortable. He doesn't like talking to media he's said and its probably cause hes scared of talking to people the opposite of you. I loved Daisy with every ounce of me. Noro nearly made me shit my pants and Be Gone is pure evil. Brand New do make me feel like if I were ever in a band I would lose my fucking mind though, no offense to them.
