@@TheGoat29078 Me too. Forgive me for having a memory. The 'attitude during training' started AFTER the player was told: "You're on the team but you won't be playing a big part. Good-bye." To this day there isn't a good reason I have seen for this naive and stupid approach. It was almost like taking him out of spite. Just... don't bring him then. What's that? He had to? Ok then WHY? Right. Why not: "Congratulations on being a part of the team, Rio. You are one of the 24 (sic) best players from our country that I and your country will be counting on in Qatar. I can't tell you what your role will be, and with the injuries you've had we will keep an eye on how things are going. But I expect you to be ready when called upon." It just seems so easy. So simple. ESPECIALLY for a guy that boasts about leadership conferences, messaging, etc. But nope. And THEN he goes to another leadership conference and spills the beans about the locker room and attitude. Look, not giving the player a free pass. Pros have to carry themselves a certain way and it was a mess. But let's not pretend GGG wasn't every bit as naive there as he was vs. the Netherlands.

The USMNT's performance since Gregg Berghalter's return has been poor. His team has underperformed. It hasn't gotten better with Gregg! These types of performances will not get the USMNT out of the Copa America group stage.

We should get rid of Gregg after Concacaf tournament because he had made many mistakes at the last World Cup. We lost to Netherlands in group 16 and were eliminated because of this I can not trust Gregg more he can not find any solutions to play against tough teams.

@@anlerden4851do you think we are more talented than the Netherlands. VVD and Gakpo are more talented than the entire USMNT. He took a team with Tim Ream to the final 16. His team outplayed England for 90 min. Wake up before you are wondering why we missed the WC again in 2030.
@alex1vid
@alex1vid Ай бұрын
@@mattharrell3932 Sure, Netherlands are talented. They have more and bigger names than Morocco for sure. He was tactically beaten by Wales, and BARELY got by Iran. Netherlands were better, but where they TRULY destroyed the USA was how unbelievably tactically naive Berhalters approach was which played STRAIGHT into the hands of Netherlands. They were annihilated by Dumbfries and the wings and Berhalter NEVER made any adjustments. So they just got crushed. It was literally like Sensei Silver telling Daniel: "You don't have to do anything. You can just stand there and let him kick your a$$!" It was so bad even the Dutch manager had to call him out on how surprised he was about his lack of adjustments. If you'd like to celebrate 2022 as a resounding success because you scraped by with 1 win over Iran, so be it. But I don't blame fans for at least expecting a better showing with Wales and a flat England that was there for the taking, and maybe seeing WHERE Netherlands were strong and thinking of what to try to do to limit the wing play. Sure, Netherlands are certainly talented. But I won't say this is the USA 1998 team. They have legitimate players now. Maybe not Netherlands, but at a good enough level to do better.

But who do you get for him that's clearly a step up? The problem is timing. If they'd seriously made the move in January/February of 2023, or even May of 2023, you might get a commitment and manager. But they waited, got the same guy exposing he was rubber stamped all along, which creates this scenario where if he royally screws up in the summer and you're FORCED to oust him, the USSF have literally NO leverage. None. So they either A: Have to go internal and beg someone to take the poisoned chalice with a note that they'll remember the favour even if they crash and burn in 2026 or B: Pay up to 3x as much as they otherwise would've had to have paid in 2023 for a stronger, more capable 'miracle' worker manager (if it even exists) or C: Even with the debacle of Copa America, you still have GGG for 2026 because now you really CAN'T do better.

Tyler Adams is the USA’s most valuable player hands down. Without him they are a talented bunch but lack an engine that makes all the talented parts come out and to the fore. Dest and Gio are hugely talented and Ream is the calm but without Adams it just doesn’t have the same fight and bite. The goal by Adams was very nice but that is not his real job…his job is to get the energy where it has to be for the rest to succeed. He is the captain for that reason and we have missed him dearly…

As far as Greg B. goes without Adams that squad is a shell of what it could be. He should attend many different services over this Easter and pray for Adams health or he won’t get out of the group at the Copa and we will need to bring a motivational manager. With Adams he stands a chance of being around for the WC…. The talent is there but the drive and fight are not-we don’t get Mexico 7 times in 26 for the players to get up for. Also don’t chuck Balagon in the trash just yet because he gets absolutely no service playing for the USA as of yet…

Meola called it right. Dude just deflected. That's the guy's tactical nuance and naivety. BARELY beats Jamaica and that's where he goes. And no direspect to Jamaica, but I'm acknowledging they were NOT at 100%, and they were NOT at the Office! But here's how I also see it. The USSF screwed this up. It's a poisoned chalice. Marsch says he wouldn't take the job but I know it'd be difficult to tell Crocker/USSF to 'kick rocks' if/when Berhalter screws up. That's the situation the USSF created. They better PRAY the guy doesn't screw the pooch this summer because if not, they may be looking at a situation where he HAS to go, you're hosting, and that next manager may cost 2-3x more than he otherwise would have in 2023 with the considerable increase in the chances of it being an embarrassment. What a cluster...

Bruh, this isn't FM. The current squad plays worse than the sum of it's parts, whereas our 2002 WC squad--with similar numbers of good Euro-level players--was one VAR call from the semis because they played better together and were better than the sum of their parts. GGG didn't blow a 3v1 scoring opp, he didn't miss a trap-fail to pressure the ball-lose his mark-then butcher an attempted save to allow a goal in the first 34 seconds, he didn't shoot 25 times only to put 7 on target including a couple of egregious misses. GGG was forced to break down a low block (which we were doing) set up by a very physical and capable Jamaican side. Once we leveled and were able to play 1-1, we tore them up.
