I'm Brazilian also and my dad grew up in extreme poverty, to the extent that he had to live in the streets as a child. Even with all that, he prioritized Jesus and worked hard. He never touched drugs or guns and nowadays he has a beautiful faithful family, a PhD and Post-doctorate and is a world renowned scientist in his field. It doesn't matter if drugs and guns are around you, if you have morals, you have morals. Saying that this is all because of the availability of drugs and guns is just a poor excuse for depravity and criminal behavior

My mom grew up dirt poor. My grandpa was a coal miner with 7 kids. They were so poor that they couldn't afford a hospital and so all but 1 of her and her 6 siblings were born in a house with no luxuries whatsoever. They didn't even own a toilet until they moved to the projects. They had to use an outhouse and their bathtub was in a damp basement. None of them ever did drugs or committed crimes. They are all upstanding people who made something of their lives to get OUT of poverty. They were raised to be decent humans even though they had nothing.

It was the only way I was taught to cope growing up. Once I broke that cycle and walked away, I was FREE and made SURE my daughter was never raised around any sort of drugs. Another thing: My husband is 67yrs old. He has NEVER put a beer to his lips, taken or smoked any sort of drugs, nor has he ever smoked cigs or dipped. I grew up in a home with 2 alcohol parents. They divorced when I was 7. I lived in foster care until I was 15, and I became an imancipated minor. I got married at 20. I am still married and have 2 adult children. I was told when I was in foster care that once you are in the system, you will always be in the system. I made a choice at 15 that I would make sure that my children never live the life that I did. You have choices. It's not always easy, but it can be done. My heart breaks for all that turn to drugs and alcohol.

It dates back when the native Americans were put into these specific areas for them, there they would have colonialists open liquor stores. They did the same thing to African slaves and later these neighbourhoods transformed into ghettos.Families would be in generational crimes, there would be less police presence in these areas and the educational systems would be worse. I've seen this even in Europe, they'd have these neighbourhoods where the police would allow them to sell drugs allow prostitution only to ramp up the arrests when they would need to.

You realize that at some point being extremely bullied in the hood most people cannot take the torture and fear of others that they just join a group to feel like they belong. This often happens in poor communities, because poor causes stress and other issues that can result in lack of sleep which then leads to poor decision making especially if malnourished. Unfortunately because of years of being targeted by the system theb were opproesed not allowed to go into area as “no colours allowed”. I’m sure they were also being played when trying to buy farmland and do business because they were black. They were discriminated upon similar to the Nazis. And if you’re much more people in size then it’s difficult for the black community to overcome. Now when more freedom came, it turned more spiritual also. The last few decades has been better but there’s still a lot of work to repair generations of racism and problems. People don’t change overnight… at least not the majority.

I worked in Corrections in California for 25 years. Nearly 100 percent of my students were either black or Hispanic. I never met one who thought of himself as a victim. On the contrary, the idea that somewhere, somehow, some pesky white person, or persons, was responsible for their incarceration would be considered undignified. In fact, if I heard it once, I heard a variant of the following hundreds of times: “My brother is an attorney and my sisters work for IBM. I put myself in this place. Years ago I watched many of his videos, and appreciated many thing Jesse said. However as I saw so many videos revealing his views on women, it did reveal his apparent deep wounds from women. I tried researching to discover what caused such deep pain that he carries. Apparently his mother, former wife, and probably others formed his views. It doesn’t take much to watch his videos to see his hatred of woman. To take any group of people, regardless of gender, race or background and lump them all together as evil is wrong.
