Wait, what? As somebody who avoids playing horror games, I have no context for this
@Eventide2158 ай бұрын
@@FlickTakFlakAttack Generally horror utilizes a lot of childhood things. So like creepy dolls, rubber ducks, and so on. It's like how they were talking about how a lot of these liminal space things are based on what you were told as a child. Big like open pool areas, school style buildings, etc were always things you avoid as a kid because you're told to. Plus you're used to big crowds being in them usually so when it's so empty and calm it just feels *off*. So basically a lot of fear and horror just comes back to childhood.

@@Eventide215 Yeah, but I disagree rubber ducks are in horror games to be scary or creepy like a doll or a lone bouncing ball. Never seen one used to that affect. Duckies are just there. Now maybe its just done to be a joke or a meme among horror game makers. 🤷

Jesse, that helicopter shark thing is basically the same vibe as the story "hello everyone, i'm afraid of bears, why am I afraid of bears? because they can run 30 miles an hour and the zoo is 30 miles away, so a bear could be here in an hour, why would a bear be here in an hour? because bears can smell fear and I fear them."
@Metalwabbit8 ай бұрын
To help Jesse with his fear of the transported shark. 1.) The fresh water and chemicals in the pool would kill the shark. 2.) From that high up the surface tension of the water would be like concrete and would kill it. Now if it landed on you from that high up? THAT would probably kill you
@Eventide2158 ай бұрын
The fresh water and chemicals would kill it, but not on contact. It'd take a bit.. which would very likely make it even more angry. The surface tension is correct if it'd be landing flat. There are no guarantees it'd be just coming down perfectly horizontal. So it might survive and just take damage. Landing on you, that would most definitely kill you.

Alex, the best way to get out of any maze is to keep walking with your right hand on the wall. You'll find your way every time.
@Eventide2158 ай бұрын
That doesn't work on every maze. It only works on a maze that has an entrance and exit on an exterior wall. If the exit to the maze was say a staircase in the center then you can't just "wall follow" to get out because they can detach those walls from the exterior. Also, the wall following wouldn't work if you were just plopped in the maze. So like the start to this game if the entrance was on the ceiling and you start the maze by following a wall, it can easily be detached and you'll just be going in circles. This doesn't even start to get into multiple layered mazes. If you really want to find your way every time regardless of the maze, you need to learn how to keep a mental map of some kind.

the *original* backrooms is an idea from 4chan , there is an implication of some danger, but going insane is the biggest hazard almost later on, when it picked up steam, it became something closer to scp, with different documented beings and researchers, but originally, just an impossibly big, empty place that drives you insane. "If you're not careful and you noclip out of reality in the wrong areas, you'll end up in the Backrooms, where it's nothing but the stink of old moist carpet, the madness of mono-yellow, the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum-buzz, and approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in God save you if you hear something wandering around nearby, because it sure as hell has heard you"
@Invalidationcoded8 ай бұрын
I still do not believe it came from 4chan. I remember seeing group discussion about the concept on tumblr (I haven't been active on tumblr since like 2016?) and it wasn't even called "the backrooms" it was purely about a specific kind of liminal space and there wasn't even anything about "noclip" related to it. It was just the kind of old empty office spaces. Years later I start seeing games about it and I'm totally confused because when I heard about the idea of that liminal space, it wasn't even "the Backrooms" and there absolutely weren't Definitive Monsters in it. There's suddenly crazy lore and we keep seeing the Kane Pixels monster in all the games. It's been wild to see
@tehRedRunner8 ай бұрын
@@InvalidationcodedI can't remember exactly where, but the original level 0 stuff started on either 4chan or some other message board type site. The first image originated elsewhere though, and the writing about level 0 was added by an unrelated person. No-clipping was a part of it from the initial text post. Kane Pixels has said that he's building his own lore, separate from the wikis that have been the main hub since it became a collaborative writing project. But I'd say his stuff really launched it into popular awareness. As a collaborative writing project, there's not really a hard definition of what's actually canon (apart from, usually, level 0, which typically has no immediate threats as long as you don't drink the carpet water)
@mayhemic8 ай бұрын
@@Invalidationcoded the term backrooms is used because of the viral 4chan post, and that yellow wall aesthetic comes from it as well, but liminal spaces being creepy has been a thing ever since liminal spaces themselves have existed, which makes perfect sense. If people can find living things uncanny, it's only natural that spaces can be uncanny as well.
