You kidding me?? Your kata was like double as good! Your speed, your attitude, your power! Clear partiality people! I hate it when I'm cheated with in competitions too! But ofcourse, everybody who's watched this knows who's really better so it doesn't matter anyways.. 🤗

I am not sure if it's just an impression, Sensei Jesse. Someone before me said that your opponent appeared to have stronger movements and more rooted stances. I agree. And I agree with the use of verb "appear". But... On the other hand, my 80yrs old sensei who had the luck to train with Mabuni Kenwa sensei) told me: "your friend - which is you, Jesse!! - is for sure physically stronger. But those two elements are connected: rooted stances, movement strength. It's a matter of hara.". I spent some moment mumbling and I can recognize the truth that maybe, even a prodigy and a lucky one as you are (for your background), Sensei Jesse, still there is a step to do to reach the level of certain Japanese practicioners (I don't use the term athlete on purpose). And it came to my mind that the "sport" made the karate deal with the necessity of "appearance". I remember that when I switched from a gym to a dojo, since the first lesson, since the first tzuki I took, I realized that my very well muscled previous INSTRUCTORS and TRAINERS were not stronger than my current thinner, old TEACHER. I hope I managed to explain my opinion. In any case, Sensei, this "defeat" is the sparkle to light a bigger fire. Samurai lived to be defeated, after all. Because the path to perfection has no end, no matter how much you train. So they lived their life expecting this lesson from defeat. Maybe perfection cannot exist without defeat. EHY, BUT ... who said a 2nd place in the land of Karate is a defeat? LOL!

As for usual in martial arts there is a small window full of things you can hardly achieve through hard training. I am by no means an experienced kobudo practicioner, so I can't tell who did better. Regardless, I can see a slight difference in styles and possibly comprehend why all the judges decided that Kinjo Sensei performed more accurately. Martial arts are linked within the culture of the lands in which they originated, small things like very little differences in styles make the difference when it comes to preferences. Of course, from my inexperienced point of view, Sensei Jess performed better. But for more experienced practicioners, that strength might not have been as convincing as Kinjo Sensei's breathing and pacing control. Anyway, this was an impressive performance by both practicioners, I feel glad that I have the chance to see this. Hopefully it will help me on my own way somehow.

I'm just a novice but having watched this twice I would say the other guy was very good and had a clear rhythm, like moving to a drum. However, your kata flowed. By that I mean your transitions between sequences was natural. When one sequence ended, you didn't freeze, then turn, then perform the next sequence, your body and bo moved very naturally and the changing of speeds only made this more impressive. All that on top of your superb stances and control of the bo. An incredible performance, one we should all aspire to. Congratulations.

You honestly should've taken the win Sensei Jesse. Your kata had style and substance. The other competitor was sharp, but there was no excitement watching his kata. You definitely have an "it" factor. I really hate that we were at the exact same tournament, but I did not get a chance to meet you, shake your hand, and possibly catch a photo op. You did however meet my best friend Brandon Nix who tied for 3rd in the prelims.

If I ever get the chance to visit Sweden, would you allow me to meet and learn something from you.. Here in our dojos, I haven't seen that kind of spirit in anyone's eyes.. Everybody learn karate as it will make them good fighters.. No love for the art..But the way you worship the art really inspire me. It would be good to practice under people like you sensei.. Doing kata is not about how hard and snappy you move, it is about the type of kata or kobudo that suits your body type and personality, the naturality of the guys in black Gi is impeccable he is fluid in movement and it looks natural on him, however Jesse did an amazing job, still, you Jesse san sensei motivates me. P.S. One of you first subscriber up until now! Jozai Senjo!
