Kudos! As a licensed stylist/colorist I love experimenting with wigs. Previously I have used synthetic Rit dye and sharpies for lowlights,which is quite tedious. This is sooo much more doable!! I will now use this to introduce my reluctant clients to temporary hilites!! Which of course will assure me that they will get actual hair lights as a color service. Thank you lady!

@stephanieswtchks8002 жыл бұрын
@@cherylj7460 I have never noticed. I am streaking a few pieces of hair though. You could wash the wig afterwards. Put it in warm water with 1/2 C white vinegar. I swish it, let it sit 5-10 min. Toss shampoo/conditioner or whatever you normally do to wash your synthetic. White Vinegar removes every odor I have ever found. I put 1C in every wash! Acts as a softener too. NO vinegar smell stays behind. Could also hit the wig with dry shampoo or comb through with a used dryer sheet. Careful the dryer sheet can leave a waxy feel. That is why I suggest a used sheet. Last tip, sniff the marker before using it. Name brand Sharpie and Amazon brand "sharpies" do not carry the same scent as "permanent markers" which are super strong. Best to you Doll!

I have been following the really smart roots,high-lighting and low-lighting you have been doing! Great innovation! Now i am pushing!! I have short wigs with one exception. It is shoulder length with shorter around the head. Mullet if you wish. The top has great blonde high-lights but the lengthy part is quite brown (light to medium brown). I am not used to the darker brown any more and as i am older i am trying to stay highlights before going more blonde. For shorter wigs. How on earth should i use highlight spray like L’Oréal Root Spray to do hight lights or will i just have to spray and brush in spray and brush in to get what i like? One wig is just too yellow (Gabor) so that one i could just spray it. But for the more brown short styles - It would be really hard to spray just an inch or two at a time. I think you may have to digest all this. I don’t expect you to have an instant solution but i would love if you could think about it and one day maybe do a video on it. Thanks for all your courageous and innovative ideas!

I would like to do this in reverse. Purchased a long blonde synthetic wig that is too light, kinda grayish. I hate the return/exchange process, so thought about coloring it myself. I don't like the fake looking shine on synthetic wigs but human hair is just too expensive. Would like to use medium brown highlights, maybe even some blonde to take out the ash look. My own hair is blonde and I do my gray roots with medium brown and don't color the rest of it, but my hair is thinning, breaking, and getting so frizzy, I can't deal with it, i.e. the wig. Sometimes I have to do blonde highlights over where I have colored my roots because the brown bleeds out a bit. The wig does have some wave in it and some layering. I was afraid I would ruin the wig because years ago I shampooed some extensions and they went completely limp. Same when I put regular hair color on extensions. It seems nearly impossible to find a wig that is the right color so being able to do this would be fantastic. Your video was very informative and thanks for the list of products too. I will check out the rest of your wig hacks. So glad I found this info! Thanks!

This is a great idea; however, the first time you wash the wig, the color comes out. Is there a permanent spray paint that can be used that will not cause texture alteration? Chalk paint? I have used sharpie pens with good results. Like the one comment, I do not like rooted wigs. In my day, if your roots were dark, it was time to dye them. Black 1, 1B wigs are hard to lighten to a 4. I have used a silver sharpie to add light or "highlights." I am in my 50's so a few gray strands is acceptable. Sometimes it is not enough. I have pale white skin and look pasty sick with black hair. Have you ever used gray or white Rite synthetic dye on a 1 or 1B to lighten it; then dyed it with a blonde for an ash brown effect? I was thinking about trying it. Just was not sure if it has been done already. I put a synthetic 1B in pure bleach overnight. No change at all. I thought there would be some change but nothing at all. Thanks for all you do!!
@JesseMSimons2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s hard to lighten synthetic wigs with anything. I don’t wash my synthetic wigs except when needed so I guess by the time I go to wash it it’s been a while and the highlights have started to fade anyway. I wouldn’t spray any type of paint or anything on it but I will look into a few things and report back. 😊

Thanks. Great video. How blonde do the highlights come out?
@JesseMSimons3 жыл бұрын
They are pretty blonde if you want them to be more bold I would spray them with 2 layers or do thicker chucks of hair.

@@JesseMSimons Thank you. I was hoping for a more cool blonde. You did a great job.

Jesse, what's your best advice to apply this method to curls? Anything you'd do differently? Or do you think this wouldn't even work that well on curls? I have a very dark Walnut (Tressallure) that looks a little harsh against my face. L'Oreal spray comes in Light- , Light Golden-, and Med-Brown, but not in the Blondes w/dark roots version. I don't want too much contrast, but I don't know how transluscent (or opaque?) this product is. Any words of wisdom appreciated. Kathy

It is not super bold unless you do a few layers on each of the sections. You would want to do small sections like I do here and just brush it out still before it dries just don’t pull the curl down when brushing it out. It also is more of a buildable blonde so if you did a light handed spray it would not be as contrasting as it would be if you did a heavier spray and then an additional layer after that. Hope that makes sense.

Question: Do you do this before or after blow-drying and styling your wig?? In other words will it come out if you blow-dry? HOW long does it last? Thanks for answering!
@JesseMSimons Жыл бұрын
It won’t come out until you wash it out.
@mrscch10572 жыл бұрын
Great idea! My only question is does this wash out? I noticed that the bottle says temporary? 😀
@JesseMSimons2 жыл бұрын
It will fade over time And you can wash it out with wig shampoo but it stays really well

Hey I have a mixed wig you know the kind that you can straighten with 400° heat but it's not human. It's a bland and it has a shine to it. Is jet black I want to keep it black I just want to shine to go away. And I was thinking about dying it with some red dye will that take the shine off. I don't want to use dry shampoo that just leaves a cast. I just want the shine to be gone.
@JesseMSimons2 жыл бұрын
You could wanted dye it but you won’t pick up any of the color of the wig is black.

I want to add pink tips to a turquoise wig. If I use this method first, would it bring out the pink more?

@@JesseMSimons the photos from which we choose our wigs often looks lighter because of their lighting. I just bought one I thought was streaked, even the description said it had multiple colors, but I got one much like the one you just used but more red. I didn’t want to return it, I liked the style, but can’t handle solid red. I’ve been looking at that spray and wondering. But isn’t that a glue you used to seal it? Just don’t know that product.
@JesseMSimons Жыл бұрын
The got-to-be glue is the glue to help seal the spray onto the synthetic fibers. However, it can be washed out.
