To me, travelling is the best way to fill the inspiration design tank. Personally London blows my mind and I fell in love with that city.

As someone who is struggling with time management and productivity guilt, I cried when you said we cannot work in an echo chamber because I feel that so deeply as I constantly confine myself in my room to finish work

I’m always very critical of videos sharing “secrets” to success - but this was so good. No boasting or condescension, and the advice is great and sincere. Side note: I learned in Uni that this part of the creative process is called the Incubation Phase. It’s often not taught as part of the design process, but stepping away from your work is so important for letting ideas ruminate and finding outside inspiration. Very glad that you are using your platform to share these ideas :)

Well said. Constantly being on the grind is a recipe for burn out. Getting out and gaining inspiration from the world and people around us is crucial for the inspiration process. Using our own stories and the stories of others in our work helps bridge the gap to strangers that even though they might not know us personally, they can still connect to us through similarities from their own lives.

literally what i needed to watch!! thanks man.. if i'm not on my computer i feel like i'm not being "productive", and at the moment i'm definitely trying to balance things out and focus on starting my graphic design career but not forget to live ...and i haven't been living lately. i will now, thank you again!! 🙏

So im a freelance graphic designer and ive been spending most of my lifetime at home because im kind of introvert person. And at some point being introvert and shy doesnt help me improve alot, missing alot of opportunity and the most important thing i doesnt have alot of network which is very crucial especially in Creative industries. So ive been taking any chances that infront of me whether i can do it or not i just need to take it, just frickin do it
@ashlostbones8 ай бұрын
I feel this. I’m an introvert as well and have been at home for the past two years taking care of my daughter and going to school from home. I’ve definitely allowed myself to miss opportunities because of being too shy and not networking enough. We owe it to ourselves not only as designers, but as people to push past all the internal blockings and just go for what we want 👏🏽

This is something I definitely needed, as i find lately working in the same room designing all day can actually be dreadful. I've come to this point where ive tried to find ways to add some spice to my life, and everything you said in this video follows just that! Thank you for delivering the message i needed to see. Cheers!

Its defintely a process of keeping the brain plastic and open to all of your sensory inputs. Not just being open to them but also very much observational of them and when your soul is free and you are present, you take it all in and appreciate everything around you so much more, which opens you up to being a better creator/designer.
@gunnarbrakel65398 ай бұрын
This video has such a good message. Social media tells us we need to “be on our grind” and work crazy hours in order to get where we want to be, but in following that mindset, we miss out on what life truly has to offer. Thank you Jesse for this reminder 🙏

This is. Very meaningful video goes over the nuances and dynamics on why I’m committed to graphic design. Having ideas not just comes only in digital works or the internet it comes from personal experience and enjoying fulfilling experiences such as travel or going to a bar or having an experience at the library. I get my ideas from most of my travel experiences that is why I love making art to this day.

This video made me tear up. Not only reflecting on my design career, but in life in general. I’ve always been told to “that taking breaks means someone else will beat you to the punch.” This I took to heart- until the point of burn out and missing out time with loved ones. Remembering to live life and smell the flowers seems so small, but can heal my heart and life so fast. 🤍

So, I recently quit my job to design full time in my own studio. At first I was so excited, but, last week I found myself in a rut. I questioned my decision, I was questioning my creativity, lacking inspiration. This video was so grounding! At the end of the day, we aren't machines. We are humans having an experience which I can totally see how this will make us better designers. I appreciate your content and this video in particular most. Thank you!

I have been working as a graphic designer for almost 20 years, and this video have a very neat message, that resonate a lot with my experiences and the things that makes me a better designer. I also wanna add that resting by itself is something good, not for having better ideas, not for resting when you finish work, rest as an end itself is great and we need it ❤

It's wild to come back from a work trip in Berlin where we didn't get as much done as we'd hoped, and see this. I felt the same though - being observant in your day-to-day life builds that illusive eye for design so well. Learning to understand people better helps us to work with clients and not get sucked into the trap of complaining about them. It's all helpful, so long as you check in with yourself to make sure you're keeping it fairly balanced.

I need to deconnect, not working but instead learning and having experiences cause if not i'm affraid i'll end up hating doing design... I'm no longer comfortable working in a design agency... I want to be free, free to choose the kind of designs commissions i want, free to learn new skills, free to do whatever i want, when i want, i want to recover that love and passion i had everytime i was ready to tackle designs projects... Moving from freelance to Marketing agency for the second time showed me that working for a company is not meant for me... I love freedom... I'm going back to freelancing and first thing i'm taking a course in 3D and motion design this was my goal for 2024...
