So I really love graphic novels and manga :) Here a few suggestions: Graphic Novels: 1. Blankets (incredibly, simple, beautiful artwork. so unique. can't really describe it but it's awesome!) 2. Friends With Boys (a girl and her ghost. a nice easy read, with lots of fun characters) 3. American Born Chinese (three amazing, funny, and deep story lines interweave into this amazing book) Manga: 1. Fruits Basket (my favorite manga. A family has a curse where they can turn into members of the Chinese zodiac.) 2. Ouran High School Host Club (hilarious take on the stereotypes of a "perfect guy" at a rich high school) 3. Soul Eater (haven't read, but the anime is AMAZING. Lots of action and comedy.) 4. Black Butler, aka Kuroshitsuji (a supernatural / Victorian /murder mystery thing) 4. XXXHolic (dealing with Japanese spirits. Also pretty funny.) 5. Death Note (intense murder mystery with demons from the afterlife where our main character is the killer.) 6. Fullmetal Alchemist (comedy and action packed with characters who aren't stick thin!) 7. Lovely Complex (when a really tall girl falls in love with a really short guy) Webcomics (so if you don't know what a webcomic is, they're comics that artists put online for free!): 1. Todd Allison and the Petunia Violet (to put it short, this is downright hilarious. Funny, quirky characters, and takes place in 1920s Australia with a sort of detective vibe. You can read it at inkblazers.com) 2. Hotblood! (what if centaurs coexisted with humans? This is funny as well, and takes place post-Civil War. You can also read this at inkblazers.com) I hope you like the recommendations!!!

I also really love Fullmetal Alchemist. It's about two brothers who attempted to bring their mother back from the dead when they were young. The transmutation went wrong, leaving the older brother with only one arm and one leg, and the younger brother with only a soul attached to a suit of armor. It's really long (27 volumes) but it's pretty fast paced. It's hilarious at some points, and a tearjerker at others. The characters really grow (mentally and physically) from the start to the finish, and is all in all a satisfying read.

I love manga! Some of my favorites are: 1. Fairy Tail-- About a group of wizards that are apart of the magic guild Fairy Tail. They go on many awesome adventures and it's really a fantastic story. 2. One Piece-- About a young pirate who wants to become king of the pirates. He gathers a crew of equally ambitious characters and together they sail around the world and follow their dreams. Also has great adventures in it. 3. Vampire Knight-- About a girl who has no memories of her past and is struggling to keep the peace between the vampires and humans at her school. It's a good story, but mostly I just liked the artwork. 4. Sword Art Online-- About this character who gets trapped in a video game. If he can beat the game, he'll be able to return to the real world, but if he dies in the game, he dies in real life. Dun dun dunnnn! 5. Higurashi-- About a group of friends caught in a continual time loop where they try over and over again to change their fates. Warning: This manga can be very disturbing and confusing, but the story is still awesome and makes you think a lot...

Bakuman is fantastic! And I agree, it's really motivating. A lot of people put it down because they say it's not as good as the creators' previous work, Death Note, but I rather enjoyed it. And you said recommendations. Oh boy, you just opened a can of worms. :3 My list of recommendations: - Case Closed (mystery): High schooler likes to solve crimes, gets turned into a kid, has to look for a secret organization while trying to solve lesser crimes with a dunce of a detective. -Sankarea (horror): Guy who's obsessed with zombies is out catting around. (Trust me, it makes sense when you read it.) A girl is also out and about and she drinks something that turns her into a zombie. A great love story with gore. Very funny too. - Ranma 1/2 (comedy/kung fu): Ranma is a martial artist who happens to have a curse where when doused with cold water he becomes a female. On top of that, his father has set him up to be married to a girl named Akane. Ranma and Akane do NOT like each other. A little dated, but still funny. - Buddha (historical): Done by the God of Manga himself, Osamu Tezuka, Buddha is about the name sake of the series. It is very detailed and has beautiful artwork. The series won an Eisner Award back in 04 an 05. (Seriously, check out anything by Osamu Tezuka. His stuff is great, and you have about 700 titles to choose from.) - Wandering Son (slice of life/LGBT): A little boy and little girl don't like the way their bodies are. The manga takes place over about 5-10 years, and you see the characters grow with who they are inside. A beautiful story with very simplistic yet well crafted artwork. Beautiful is the best word I can use to describe this, though I may be bias to it. And that's just off the top of my head. I have over 800 volumes of manga the last time I counted (which was about four years ago, so it's probably jumped up a lot since then) and I try and read anything. (Durara I couldn't quite get in to. Just wasn't my cup of tea. Though I know plenty of people who like it and the anime.)

You should try reading the manga Tokyo Ghoul, The story follows Ken Kaneki, a college student who meets a woman named Rize Kamishiro at Anteiku in a coffee shop. They share an interest in literature and plan a date. While walking Rize home, Ken is attacked by her. Rize reveals that she is a ghoul, a human-like creature that hunts and devours human flesh. As she is about to finish him off, she is crushed by a falling platform. Kaneki is taken to the hospital in critical condition. The doctor decides to transplant Rize's organs into Ken. He then must deal with life as a half-human/half-ghoul, including interacting with ghoul society and its conflicting factions, while striving to keep his identity secret from other humans. They also have a anime about it and it's so good. They going to make a second season about it. I highly recommend it :)

So the "Big 3" manga are Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece technically they are all still ongoing but Naruto is ending this month, and Bleach is ending next year. Attack on Titan, Black Butler, The Prince of Tennis, Soul Eater, InuYasha, Fairy Tail and Love*Com are also some good recommendations covering a spectrum of manga genre. A good graphic novel is Pandemonium by Chris Wooding and Cassandra Diaz.

It depends if you like shojo at all (most of what you picked up is shonen) but if you're interested Fruits Basket is super cute. Hana Kimi is also cool, as is Ouran High School Host Club (both of those have similar premises.) If you want to try a more classic shonen manga, Inuyasha is always a good place to start (its my personal favorite.) Just to list a couple others, Naruto, Bleach, D. Gray Man, and Soul Eater.

The characters are really interesting and the plot is so different than any other dystopian books I've read!! :)

Jesse, there's this amazing contemporary manga called Solanin which is only two volumes, if i'm not mistaken. It's about a couple, Taneda and Meiko and their lives. It's a "slice-of-life" kind of manga, very introspective, with sort of a melancholic feel to it, and it deals very much with being young and not really knowing what to do with your life. I really recommend it.

The recommendation of manga that I think you should read if you have time is: Death Note, Attack On Titan, One Piece, and Dragon Ball Z Kai because I REALLY enjoy the anime and the mangas as well. Hm it would be fun to get some of those for myself to read as well since I love anime, cartoons, and the stories of the different characters and I LOVE to read!😄 I have a lot of reading to catch up on though😅 HOWEVER, I'm excited to do so because reading is my favorite thing to do (other than write, paint, or draw when I'm bored) and it was my favorite subject in school other than art. One of my favorite pass times to do after a hard day is: read in my room, drink a cup of coffee or hot chocolate while I read, with my cat laying in my lap, and when it rains. Best.experience.ever!😄 I'm currently reading The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials and I really enjoy it so far, but I also need to read the rest of Stephen King's It, Pet Sematary, The Hunger Games series, and to start on the Divergent book series because I haven't read it YET. Anyway I really enjoy your channel and I wish you luck on catching up with the books that you haven't been able to have the time in order to read, but life DOES get busy though. Sorry😅

I'm just starting to read manga/Graphic novels, but I Highly recommend the Black Butler series. Its in black and white but its awesome. Black Butler is about (This is probably going to sound crazy) a boy named Ceil, who's parents were killed, leaving Ceil as the Head of the Funtom toy company. Ceil hires a butler (Sebastian), but this butler is not just a butler..(dramatic pause).. He's a demon, Who serves Ceil under a contract. Sebastian will grant Ceil's greatest wish, in exchange for his Soul. (demons eat souls to survive... pretty much) I'm not the best at explaining it, but trust me, This series has TONS of moment that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and turning pages. Hope you pick it up!

I actually just ordered the originally manga series The Ring. Yes, the Ring lol, and yes it is based off of the original Japanese scary movie "The Ring," that our American ones are based off of. The illustrations are all in black and white and the first one is a little lengthy for a manga, but they're actually really good. And I just ordered both of those versions of The Graveyard Book and the Deadly Class. I haven't read the graphic novel version of Coraline yet though. But that "101 things to do with a dead kindle" and "DRRR!!" look pretty good. Now, I must go and say "D-rah-rah-rah" umpteen more times haha.

I haven't read Durarara!! but I've seen the anime and it's SO good! It's actually urban fantasy, but as urban as it gets, and it has such a great, unique cast of characters! My favourite manga of all time is NANA, by Yazawa Ai. It's a little girly maybe, but sooo amazing, and I think you'd still enjoy it. I also recommend Kagen no Tsuki (or Last Quarter in English) by her, which is shorter and less of a commitment, and more mysterious. I also think you would really enjoy Pandora Hearts, which is a really cool dark fantasy manga.

On recommending mangas (My computer autocorrected that to mangos. It's like it doesn't know me at all.) you should check out: 1. Rurouni Kenshin. Arguably my favorite manga series ever. It's incredibly well done with a great story and I spent quite a bit of my time reading it just being amazed at how amazing great the manga was drawn and how much detail was put into it. 2. Inuyasha. This is another one of my favorites. It's got a great story with wonderful characters and it's a pretty long series but I loved the characters so much that I personally wouldn't have minded if it had lasted longer. 3. Fruits Basket. This one is really different from the first two, but still amazing. This is other manga vying for my number one spot. It's got a really weird set up and at the beginning it feels like it's just a fluffy throw away story, but as it progresses it slowly starts to build these layers to all the characters that formed a really deep story that I honestly feel played a huge influence in my life the first time I read it about 5 or 6 years ago. So those are my top 3 and I hope that anyone that reads this checks them out if they haven't already and finds some new favorites, or at least something new to enjoy!

As far as graphic novels the Locke and Key series by Joe Hill is amazing and for manga the Bleach series and Attack of Titan are both amazing if you like a lot of action

I read Anya's Ghost and In Real Life because of this video. I loved them both. My first graphic novels I might add! Thanks Jesse. 👍

im not new to manga but definitely new to graphic novel. M currently reading Neil Gaiman's The Sandman:Endless Nights. hmm... this is my first graphic novel so I'm not sure if i actually do like this format of story telling. After i'm done with this one i might buy more of it as I'm a Neil Gaiman fan. As for manga, I'm kinda lazy to read it so i always watch the anime version instead. Both Bakuman and Durarara have animes. What genre do u like? i could introduce u some if u like.

One of the best graphic novels I've ever read is Fun Home by Alison Bechdel. I don't know if you've read it, but it's a graphic novel memoir and it's amazing.

I always recommend Watchmen by Alan Moore to anyone who wants to read a great graphic novel. I'm currently reading Batman: The Long Halloween and next I plan on reading Seconds by Bryan Lee O'Malley (the same guy who did Scott Pilgrim)

I really liked the Haruhi Suzumiya mangas, Dr.Slump mangas are cool and Yotsuba mangas are hilarious! Ohh, and if you like graphic novels you should read Frances by Joanna Hellgren. It's my favorite graphic novel! It is very beautiful!

If you haven't checked it out, I'd suggest Sailor Moon (both the original anime and the new reboot, which follows the manga much more closely, like almost line-for-line, as well as the manga). It's one of my favorite series of all time and it's simply fantastic.

Graphic novel recs: Watchmen by Alan Moore, Hawkeye by Matt Fraction (3 volumes so far, 4th coming out later this month), Saga by Brian K. Vaughn, Sex Criminals also by Matt Fraction (this is rated M, contains quite a bit of nudity but it's hilarious. just don't read it in public), all of Image Comics in general, if you've watched Avatar the Last Airbender the graphic novels are really good. Manga recs: Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan), Full Metal Alchemist, Naruto, Bleach, Fairy Tail, Shaman King, Soul Eater, Beelzebub, Inuyasha, Samurai Champloo, Samurai Deeper Kyo, and that's all for now.

My recommendations for manga would be InuYasha, Full Metal Alchemist, and Case Closed. Those are some manga that I have always enjoyed, even as I fall in, out, in, and out again of the manga world. By the way, this was actually the perfect video for me right now cause I just pulled out my manga collection and started setting it up. :)

You should read Cat Street. It's one of my favourite mangas. It's about a special school for people who were bullied because of their personalities in the regular public school.
