Brilliant hire of an exceptionally qualified coach on a steep trajectory for high impact. Congrats to the Kraken and Jessica Campbell!

Exceptionally qualified? You call being a minor league hockey coach for two years "exceptionally qualified?" What about the guys that have been coaches for decades and are still waiting for a shot at the NHL? Personally, I think it's quite unfair how this person has been allowed to jump the cue over individuals that have been paying their dues for much longer.
@MischaMartineauIAMWHOISAYIAM
@MischaMartineauIAMWHOISAYIAM 3 ай бұрын
@@ulical exceptional people aren't "waiting for a shot" they defy the odds and will not be denied. Coach Campbell is a trailblazer. Bowman was named head coach at 34. Bryant went from high school direct to the NBA.

@@MischaMartineauIAMWHOISAYIAM You're not getting carried away just a bit are you? It's big ask to compare two Hall of Famers to a person that hasn't even coached an NHL game yet.

Crazy that a 31 year old woman that has all of two years coaching Minor League Hockey is all of a sudden catapulted into the NHL. I mean, I look around NHL benches, and the vast majority of the coaches are retired, middle-aged ex-pros. I could understand it if she was some sort of savant, but the facts don't point in that direction. I think in this case, it's a combination of her familiarity with Dan Bylsma, the new HC of the Kraken, and the fact that we're talking about Seattle, a city where identity politics are endemic.

Paul Maurice (who JUST won a Stanley cup) made his HEAD COACHING debut at 28 years old for the whalers/hurricanes. He was the second youngest to be named head coach at the time. And sure, Seattle is a woke progressive and whatever else enclave. I don’t disagree. But to say that she doesn’t have skills to be an assistant coach at 31 is ignorant of the facts.
@TheMiamiUte
@TheMiamiUte 3 ай бұрын
@@vitaly6312 Yeah, sure, but what you fail to mention is that Maurice had been coaching at the Minor League level since he was 20 years old and was a minor league head coach for two years before he was hired by the Whalers. He is the definition of a coaching savant. Another detail that you left out when you mentioned Maurice, centers around probably the biggest reason why he got the Whalers job. It just so happens that Peter Karmanos, the owner of his minor league hockey club, the Detroit Jr Red Wings, purchased the Whalers and immediately installed Maurice as the head coach. My opinion is that he did so because he felt comfortable with him and because Maurice had excellent records both of his seasons with the Jr Red Wings. See Vitaly, the details matter.

These older coaches don't necessarily have a leg up anymore. Sure, they've got experience behind the bench in some traditional areas but when it comes to what the league has turned into (speed, PT, strategy), younger coaches/players grew up closer to this era. I don't think this is a disadvantage at all.

@Axeom Okay, great...obviously those two years at Coachella turned Campbell into a coaching genius. I'm surprised that Seattle didn't give her the job directly. I mean, why stunt her progression by having her be a measly coach?

This is great for women. More and more over recent years they have been giving women male dominated jobs simply because they are women... and its about time. The other day, for example, I was listening to the fan 590 and was lucky enough to listen to 2 women talk MLB baseball.... it was great, I learned so much.
