Jessica Grib

Jessica, 32, developed high blood pressure during the last few weeks of her second pregnancy and went into Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri to be induced. The doctors discovered the baby was breech, which required Jessica to go in for an emergency C-section. Following the C-section, Jessica developed post-partum cardiomyopathy and went into cardiogenic shock. Dr. Tim Schloss placed the Impella CP® device to support Jessica’s weak heart. She was transferred to Barnes-Jewish Hospital where physicians also placed Jessica on additional mechanical support to assist in oxygenating her blood. Eventually Jessica’s heart recovered enough to function on its own and both devices were removed. Today, Jessica’s heart function is normal and she’s back to her busy routine raising her children with her husband, Kevin.

@@PeacefullyRounded I just got through this, and they didn’t find it on me until I went into respiratory failure, my son was an emergency c section and I ended up on life support for a few days, I was able to come home in about a week, with no implants. My EF was at 25%, but it’s doubled in 3 months. I ate less than 1500 mg of sodium a day, and drank less than 1500 ml of water in addition to all my medications. @@Residual_Sizzle hello....i am on medication for pdcm....my ef is 45% and improving.....what extra precautions sd i take...hw cm ur ef doubled in 3 months....i hv taken 10 months......r u med free???

@@aishabanoo7740 if you have a Facebook account there is a survivor support group, called “Peripartum Cardiomyopathy (PPCM) Survivor Support” But to answer you, I am still on medication! There is a chance I’ll have to take it forever since everyone heals differently. But I’m on entresto, carvedilol, and spironolactone. In that Facebook support group there are all kinds of women in all different stages of healing-but I know the medication Entresto, has been a game changer for a lot of us. If you aren’t taking it now, I would check with your doctor, it’s an expensive medication though. And I encourage you to find that group on Facebook. It’s a nice support system! In March my EF was 20-25% and at my last Echo it was 50-55%. I ate under 1500 mg of sodium a day, and less than 1500 ml of water. Was strict about taking my medicines, and took fish oil as well. Now that my heart is better, I’ve started walking every day, and exercising at the gym 3x a week to strengthen up.

I was diagnosed 20 years ago with my first and only child with a EF of 12, unfortunately I haven’t recovered but my EF is now 37. I have a ICD and I’m on daily medication. New PPCM Mama’s I know you’re scared, mad, confused, hurt and some maybe guilty and rightfully so! You feel all of those feelings Mama for however long you need too but don’t let it consume you. I decided years ago not to allow this heart condition to take away anything else from me and I haven’t!
