Still remember the days when we'd talk on AIM and she'd send me some of her songs she was working on, of which I'd immediately burn to a disc and listen on repeat. I'm so proud of you Jessica! I'll never forget our day of having no money and eating french fries, always knew you'd make it big.

I was buying Nick Drake albums when they first came out and he was alive , and I totally agree with you about the musical association. Have you heard "Five Leaves Left?" If you like 'Moon Dude' I'd recommend looking up 'Triad' by Jefferson Airplane. Very similar vibe to me. Just as a note I'm not saying they are at all the same in construction, but just the vibe.
@RichardStevenson925 жыл бұрын
Great shout actually! Her style really reminds me of that darker folk sound like on Triad but that's also kind of littered throughout a lot of British folk like Roy Harper and Nick Drake. A lot of it really reminds me of this section of a Fairport Convention song called Sloth. It starts very conventionally and then really disappears to some other world.

NORBERT .

The guitar playing is gorgeous, especially the chords - they (and the general feel) remind me of "A Distant Shore", Tracey Thorn's solo mini-album from the early 80s. Just bought the ticket for her show in London, UK (8th Sept '15 - Bush Hall). I find her live performances much better than studio albums... there is much more 'air' here and space. how dare people call this "sparse" what da helll
@gringogreen47196 жыл бұрын
This one is easy. It's sparse because you have three inputs. Also both players are serving the song rather than trying to compete in a rock band environment. If you look at most music with a full band you are looking at at least four or five inputs if not a dozen or more if you are doubling up on inputs. Look at a song like "Teen Spirit", the massive sound comes from five different guitars alone...from the same player. Many recordings that make it out to the public, regardless of genre, many inputs are double tracked to get a thicker tone. When you play in a smaller set up, so two people on guitar and one voice, you have less to fill more bandwidth, so you play more. If you played this with four or more people it would have a different feel, the closest I could put this would be a merge of the Murmurs with Mazzy Star. In addition to this both players are using subtle effects to make their notes linger like with the reverb and maybe a subtle chorus pedal. I would call this more stripped down than sparse, both players are pretty busy and it sounds fantastic!

I don't understand why people are saying the music is spare Maybe it's like Golden Corral, you could have a lot of food, make a big spectacle of how much food is there, but is it all food you want? Probably not But I think this music is dense with ideas. A lot of the melodies have so much contour and one leads into another like a birthday surprise. I think it's a gentle sound but there's a lot of music here
