Also, the pointer about the oil drain being magnetic, and to check for "sparkles", as Derek calls 'em! I hope that the ladies watching will get a little boost of confidence seeing you tackle these common problems and regular maintenance -type stuff. We're so spoiled with all our fancy brakes these days. I remember my old F100 4x4 only had brakes on one wheel after the pedal was against the floor. Never hit anything, even in heavy traffic. Took me a while to find out the flex hoses were collapsed.

This made me so happy. I have tried to show my daughter how to do everything with her car. If nothing else but to save her money, but she wanted to know anyway. It doesn't matter if you are a boy or a girl, you need to know how to deal with things that will affect you in unexpected situations. We ALL need to know how to do these things. Please continue to do videos like this. I want everyone to feel comfortable knowing they can be self sufficient. Because there is nothing that any of us can't do to help ourselves. I agree. In fact, when my kids were growing up, I made them work on their own cars (with my guidance, of course). They didn't particularly like it, but now when they call me to tell me how they fixed their own car, they sound so proud, and I rest easy knowing they won't get taken advantage of by unscrupulous shops, and they'll save money.

I'm not surprised that Jessica knows how to repair her vehicle given that she grew up in the same town as Derek, and likely had her father teaching her all the same things that Derek learned as a young feller. I'm also not surprised that she did a fantastic job explaining everything as she is a teacher (retired to help Derek with the channel) and it shows that she is obviously a fantastic teacher as well! I just started the video, but I'm really stoked to see you, Jessica, working on your rig. My mom was the first person to show me how to change an alternator, among other parts. We always had junkers and we changed a lot of parts in part store parking lots. Keep up the AMAZING content you two!
