Not a mom but somebody who has babysat a lot and my tip is also to use everyday household things and turn them kid appropriate. E.g. Scooping water in the kitchen, giving them little towels while I am cleaning and usually they copy, and in between I do the same with laying on the floor and doing some tickling, singing and just being together and seeing what the child wants to do😊

How do you re-train sleep training after traveling etc? Just repeat what you did before? Like redo Ferber or something?
@jessicadrawsthings3 жыл бұрын
@@jaclynmartin8622 Yeah, we went back to the basics. Our baby was able to get back on track within a week. Of course, there were some nights of teething or separation anxiety he'd need a little more help getting back to sleep, but it was an overall upward curve towards the full nights of sleep. Best of luck! When we went on a 10-day roadtrip it took longer for our little one to get used to napping in his bed again, so I ended up doing a lot of attempted naps in his bed and then resorting to the carrier or going for a drive with him in the carseat. Really, just whatever works and know that you'll get back on track eventually. It's tough and requires so much patience and compassion for everyone involved!

Great tips! Yeah our 1 year old loves to take things out of containers so I'll usually get a box and put stuff in it: Tupperware lids, oranges, toys... Also using blankets/pillows to make and obstacle course is fun. We have a yard too so outside time is easy, we bought a plastic slide for about 25 that she LOVES, but she'll also just play with sticks and dirt. As for more hands off stuff we can get a few min apart putting her in her playpen (hiccapop) that has ballpit balls. And we have a sensory board! She goes nuts for it. We got ours on Etsy (grandparents gifted it, we got to pick it out) and it's definitely a favorite. Oh and also noisy books like ones that play music is a big hit.

Hi, soo many great tips! I am having a very active 1y 2mo old toddler. She is also a climber, so i ended up putting different sized chairs, to make a mini stair for her right in front of the window. A learning tower is awsome too, we just dont have one yet. She really enjoys looking outside, and climbing at the same time.

Not every kid is like this, but we use books AS toys a lot. Our girl loves being read to, but she also just likes playing with the books themselves. Books with flaps/tabs/etc are a big hit right now. We also like Indestructibles books because I don’t have to worry about her accidentally melting them with her drool or eating paper. 🤣

@@dawnforlife I’ve got a one year old and same - every 2h waking up to feed. I’m very tired but sleep training terrifies me. How do I fine energy to fight with my baby to make her sleep on my terms when I can just roll over to one side, take a boob out and make her calm in an instant?

@@dawnforlife night wean your baby if you can. There will be some crying for a few nights but you don’t need to leave your baby to cry. Once I stopped breastfeeding at night my child just starting sleeping through the night on his own without me forcing it. I never believed that would happen - but by 18 months it did. I still breastfeed a two year old but only during the day.

15 month old girl. Same. Hates to put on on clothes, throws herself on the ground and hits her forehead to the floor when not getting her way, scream murder in car seat, screams murder when leaving the park, screams murder when getting back into pram...Strong willed child mama life. I feel you! It can get draining some days but I've learnt that they have big emotions and we just have to gently guide them by staying firm but not taking their emotions personally. We are not responsible to soothe the cries, they just need to let it out. I really like Janet Lansbury blog if you have not heard. It's about respectful parenting.

@@dawnforlife love this reply. My little boy definitely is strong willed and likes to control. He’s an angel for everyone else. So I take that as a compliment. It means he has big emotions but only lets them out on me and his daddy - the two people he feels safest around which enables him to do so. It’s all good. We’ve got this haha

Mine has days where she hates going in the stroller, so I keep talking her through it (today when we go outside, we’re going to use the stroller), but then if things get really bad, the object gets a silly voice. My high chair is a deep “male” (ish voice), my stroller is Australian. I ask them if they’re ready for baby to sit and they answer excitedly that yes they are, I ask baby if they’re ready, and generally in just 30 sec or so of silliness the problem is taken care of and baby is strapped in and happy to go!

My girl just turned one on the 17th! She also loves to climb but.. will literally crawl/fall right off of the couch/bed/table if I’m not right there. How do you protect them/or teach them to not fly off the edge of everything they climb on ? 😂
@poechristhemfitz3 жыл бұрын
We are dealing with that too! I use every opportunity to show my little one how to safely get back down (legs first). I've gotten the suggestion of holding onto his legs when he's about to cliff dive and lowering him down until his head touches the ground to show him what would happen, but I haven't felt like doing that yet.
@emilycasciari70903 жыл бұрын
my daughter was the same way! i just showed her every single time how to get down the right way and eventually she learned how to do it on her own!
@dawnforlife3 жыл бұрын
For me, I started my girl young around 5/6 months. We have a floor bed which is not very low, so she can still tumble off it. When she is close to the edge, I ask her, "Are you confident on the edge? You might fall off and hit your head.", then I knock on the floor and tell her "pom pom" (like a falling sound). Every time she is close to the edge, I tell her so and that if she falls, it may hurt, pom pom. Of course she went ahead the first few times and fell. Then I tell her, pom pom, and show her again the edge. Since your girl is already one, maybe let her climb on something lower where she can fall and not get VERY hurt. A little is ok. Then she will know. Sometimes they have to learn by themselves and if it not dangerous and hurts a tiny bit, I think that's ok but that's just my opinion 😆
@maryanne.sanders3 жыл бұрын
My daughter and I practiced over and over how to do it right. “Roll over on your belly, legs first, push down, feet touch, yay!” I also don’t help her do ANYTHING dangerous that she can’t do herself (ie helping her jump down/climb up a slide, jump off a couch, climb up a ladder). I’ll let her do those things, but I don’t help her do them because if she can’t do it herself, she won’t a) have the confidence to get back down from the ladder herself or b) will do things she thinks she can do but forget I’m not helping her and hurt herself.

What's wrong with sleep training?
@AngelLopez-pc1pw3 жыл бұрын
@@nicolemarie86 it's child abuse, that's what's wrong. just because some "experts" put a nice name on it and said "it works" doesn't mean you need to blindly believe this. use your brain. it's completely unnatural and creates trauma that is way more noticeable later in life. but by that time it's too late and you can't go back and undo the harm your "sleep training" has done to your child.

@@annarocha3254 the worst part about having made a huge mistake is inability to own up to it so you end up defending your actions and even become an advocate for it. It's really sick. This is why a lot of women who have had abortions out of ignorance early in life become "pro choice", bc they can't deal with the emotional consequences of having to admit the magnitude of their mistake.
