I watched every season of Love Is Blind Brazil without the English voiceovers. You just have to read the subtitles honestly. It’s far better in the native languages.
@latreciaherring12295 күн бұрын
I came here to say the same, after I heard you remark at 51:40 that you were missing the emotion due to the dubbing. Unless you all have a different Netflix than I, you should be able to change the language and watch in German with English subtitles. I realize it probably doesn’t work to have German language playing when you’re filming an on-screen reaction and making comments in real time, but if you find you are watching it back on your own, I co-sign on just using English subtitles and letting the people speak.

I have a different opinion about talking about race and ethnicity as it relates to appearance. Obviously not all black women look the same so she didn’t say what she looked like, she said where she was from. If he realizes people from there have a skin tone he has a problem with, that’s not her man and she dodged a bullet. I feel like talking about race is different because you need to know if that person is a bigot before you get engaged! That isn’t so much revealing your appearance as telling him about your life and culture and family, or simply checking how he reacts to your ethnicity. He still has no idea what she looks like!

9:39 I feel you Jessie, but that’s why most black Americans will continue to struggle and end up broke. Grandpa and Grandma get put in homes, while we struggle raising kids alone. Everyone just has to have their own house, their own two cars, their own this and that because it’s the “American way and dream”. While the cultures that understand community building prosper and have more peace. And most Americans in reality live the American nightmare and die in debt. We have got to change how we think about things.

As far as the ‘race’ thing when it comes to LiB, I think each contestant should get to decide how much they say and if they want to deal with possibly meeting a racist and ALL decisions are valid. Knowing someone’s race or ethinicity does not tell them the entirety of what you look like. Yes, it gives some context to it. But I think its like talking about fitness, on one hand it COULD be seen as body-type screening but on the other hand if you really want a partner willing to get out of bed with you for a 6:30am run, finding out if they are into that might be important. Unfortunatly, we can not talk to most people and not imagine some sort of form to them. Some people also have very ethnic or cultural names and so some assumption comes with that. Should they hide their names? We ran into this with Kwame. There’s also the possibility of deeper conversations related to race and ethnicity that can lead to conversations about value systems. While I don’t think you should walk into the pods on a day one meeting and state race, age, height. If in the natural flow of conversation and getting to know each other something culturally related comes up it can start to feel like lying to be question dodging and you might find commonality in unexpected places if you just embrace landing in a conversation where your race might be inferred from the context. Especially if that person doesn’t seem to be fishing for it and just trying to get a fuller internal picture you where culture is a connected piece.

I get both sides - on one hand, it violates the spirit of the show to disclose stuff about how you look at all; on the other hand, why would you want to waste a single minute on a man if that’s going to be a deterrent to him in the end?

I’m so glad you’re reviewing LIB Germany! I live in Germany (I’m not German but I’m married to one lol) and I was kind of dreading this season. I love Germany and many Germans, but I feel like Germans can be so awkward when it comes to dating, and sometimes there feels like there’s difficulties really expressing/showing love. I was hoping I would be wrong but after all the engagements, I barely saw any real vulnerability and no one said I love you?! Oh god I feel like this season is gonna be painful 😅😅

I just watched the first drop of this season and couldn't wait to hear your thoughts! Would you ever consider watching the show in German but activating the english subtitles? I originally started with the English dub, but had to switch to subtitles because it sounded too fake and disjointed.

Hi Jessie Happy new year!! Have you thought of reviewing LIB Brazil starting from season 2. There are beautiful black women on there it's very interesting regarding race and colourism I would have loved to hear your input on LIB Brazil if you can 🙏🏿
@annitab70627 күн бұрын
LIB Brasil is actually the most interesting from a black perspective because they're so frank about race and gender politics in the black community.

I watch all foreign Netflix shows in the original foreign language with English subtitles. The dubs/voiceovers always be so corny to me. Jessie, you can change this in your Netflix settings!

if i'm not mistaken, in Germany, everyone is responsible for their own bday cake + typically planning any celebrations too, at least for coworkers + friends. (iDK about family. 🤔) not to say others can't be involved + def not excusing how she was treated!! + TBH i can't compute. 😂 when this was first explained to me by native Germans, i was the woman surrounded by math problem meme 😅 cause i was raised the exact opposite re: bdays.
@BleedInAllColours5 күн бұрын
True. Your family and your friends get you a cake. But you're supposed to bring at least a cake for your coworkers. And since everybody does it, it works out in the end.
@hellaSwankkyToo5 күн бұрын
@BleedInAllColours thanks so much for the clarification + confirmation! quick question: where do romantic partners fall on this? do they count as close friends + family? as in do boyfriends, girlfriends, romantic partners (prior to marriage) usually bring a cake for you or do they fall into the co-worker//casual friends camp, meaning you provide your own bday cake?
@BleedInAllColours5 күн бұрын
@hellaSwankkyToo Your romantic partner is definitely obliged to get you a cake / flowers / gift. Birthday girl / boy takes a cake and often more treats to work or school. So what she described was definitely shady. He should have been the one to surprise her with a cake or something in the first place. To then tell her not to bring one and THEN not have one, was just mean. As Jessie said, he didn't like her. She shouldn't have given up her life for someone who treated her like that.
@hellaSwankkyToo5 күн бұрын
@BleedInAllColours ooooh got it! got it. thank you for taking the time to lay it all out//explain. everything makes a lot more sense now! LOL previously, i'd been told Germans handle their own birthday celebrations period as it's more "practical." as in, ppl (friends, family, SOs, colleagues) may get you gifts but everything else is on you - the plans, invitations, execution, + most importantly, the cake. it just sounded...so cold to me but i didn't want to judge so stopped asking questions. i appreciate the explanation + additional context//info. 🤓

In Europe, especially Germany (The Father land- every other nation says motherland except them) men and women are equal so the 50-50 thing is ingrained in many and my observation is some European women take this literally and act like men (just based on my experience and those who share their experiences with me). Of course you come across some exceptional people with a whole different agenda, they are a breath of fresh air
@BleedInAllColours5 күн бұрын
Very true. 50:50 is the standard here. Works well, because families are supported, childcare is free or cheap, everybody has health insurance, and men participate. Actually, there's quite a number of stay at home dads here.

tbh idk how y'all watch this stuff dubbed! maybe it's bc i'm not american so i'm used to reading subtitles, but it's really so much better in the original language. i feel like you can miss a lot of the emotions w/ the 3 actors that they rotate @ netflix. plus it's also fun to learn bits about how other languages sound imo. also! the whole show is abt falling in love w someone's voice and their personality, so it's nice to hear their actual voices and try and lean into the experience. anyway, thank you for reviewing it either way Jessie!!!
