He's really good at drawing so he would make cards and pictures for other guys to send home to their family (and probably say they drew it lol) in exchange for all kinds of stuff. It's amazing how much people will pay for that kind of stuff. I barely ever had to send him any money and he still had everything he needed and wanted.

My cousin made booze and apparently you really have to be careful of botulism. So if you don't get caught I guess it's a "hope you live" kinda thing. He had plastic bags back in the 60s but I don't know if most prisoners have those anymore. They were used to hold everything when he was in because they're clear and he wouldn't have a bunch of things in his hands. A "bunch" meaning 2 toiletries or 3 of anything else.

Well I think she also means there is many different methods of recovery, all ending with the goal of maintained sobriety. Everyone has their own methods, journeys, and ways and they all don't look the same.

I never realized how rich I could get if I went to prison. When I was in boot camp I used to write letters home to my wife. I wanted them to be pristine so I would rewrite the scratched out copies so that the ones I sent were clean. Come to find out that the scratched out copies were being raided from the trash bin and passed around so that others could send their own copIes home. It never occurred to me to charge for them though, lol.

I had the same thought. I just love to write and erotica is pretty easy, especially if you add love letters and don't have to write an entire book. I have messy writing in my daily living but I can make it look like I typed it (or 4 other fonts) and I will write it until it's perfect.

I probably had lots of "friends" because I had money and I always shared with my friends. I didn't just share with anyone cause I know better but I had a few close friends and I always shared every single thing I opened with them. Even if I was broke and got something from the store I shared it. Even if my best friend was sleeping I would save her half when she woke up. I was starving but I am just not the type to sit there and eat in front of someone I care about or someone who's hungry. I did give stuff to people who were actually hungry too. But not the girls who would run up to you as soon as they heard a wrapper lol. I wasn't rich in there but I got at least 40$ a week

When I was in prison, I worked in the clothing/property room for a year. Made a whopping 50 bucks a month. lol. The amount of coffee and food i got from guys in exchange for brand new socks and boxers and t-shirts was pretty great.

@@abbigailcarr2725 Pretty sure that's inaccurate. If your life circumstances and the socioeconomic system set you up for failure on the streets, going to prison becomes a much more real possibility. If I was out on the streets with no education, selling drugs to make ends meet, I think I would expect my chances of ending up in prison to be significantly higher than those of my educated, privileged, gainfully employed peers.

Gotta start from the bottom, work your way up, I didn't have money at all for my first 4 years. I started drawing crappy drawings that eventually turned into pretty good drawings... used those proceeds to stack up food and then would charge 2 for 3 back, meaning I give you 2 soups for 3 back, or whatever. Until I stocked up on coffee and creamer and hot chocolate, then I started a coffee shop, and then I veered into the more illegal side and started poker tables and sports betting. Dabbled a bit in pills and "extortion" I guess you could call it, make up a threat charge a fee to mediate or protect, super shitty thing to do but when you're a year or two in and have nothing you're emotionally dead so it don't feel wrong at the time. Luckily around year 5 I started getting consistent money and no longer had to stress on hustles, I was able to give up the more risky hustles and enjoy drawing and running a coffee shop.

See I just don’t know if I could do that. I know it’s human instinct to do what ever you have to to survive, but I already have an extremely guilty conscience. I don’t think I could ever extort someone, or rob someone because I would never forgive myself for hurting another person like that. I just put myself in that person’s shoes and I’d feel forever like a piece of shit.

I did a little bit of it all. It’s also like an adrenaline rush. This one time this other inmate worked in the officer beauty shop. I would take her chicken and she would bring me these little 4 oz bottles of Pantene shampoo and conditioner. When I washed my hair with that several women came to the shower and asked what the smell was because the smell was so loud. From their on out I diluted it bc I didn’t want to get snitched on.

A few years ago all HMP banned smoking. Since then you can only vape. So the price of tobacco has gone through the roof. My last sentence I knew I was going to get a sentence when I went to court so was parcelled up. I had a tobacco parcel & lighters too. You'll be amazed the amount you can make on one roll up. I needed a few things before canteen day so one roll up could be sold for a few quid. (£8-£10 of items) depending who it is. If it was a friend id be more willing to sort as i know its coming back at some point. (you scratch my back, ill scratch yours) The lighters were like gold dust. I never borrowed out. I would make £ or get 2s, or something else in return for lighting it. But have to be careful who you let know you have stuff & always be ready to fight as you just don't know who wants what you've got. 😐.

@Abbigail carr. Yes, but the only option is logic pro. In reception you're given (if you smoke) a vape pen, 3 capsules, charger & socket. On canteen you get a small choice of flavour & nicotine strength. 1 pack (3 capsules) cost 3.99 . They don't last long so you need 2 packs at least. You can break the capsules when empty to make a light, that's how you light a roll up, or whatever else you might need a light for. Lol. That's why tobacco prices are sky high now smoking is prohibited.

I’d make a good inmate lol. I’ve hustled my whole life. Can lift items from anyone, be annoyingly distracting when needed, I’ve flirted my way to way to many favours over the years and what I’d probably get killed for in prison is slight of hand when it comes to card games. I am banned at every local card game within 30 minutes of me due to being able to stack decks or magically make cards appear or disappear. Yeah rule of thumb you don’t wanna fuck over other inmates in prison. Sure it’s a safety risk to you but it’s also just not cool. They’re in the same position of having literally everything ripped away from them, so take advantage of staff all you want, but don’t take advantage of someone else

I started writing a woman I saw on one of those prison pen pal sites. Think I sent her all of 80 bucks in the last 10 months (40 for birthday, 40 for Christmas). Now I'm wondering if she even needed my money. :D Only started because I've heard that for some inmates, letters can really help them keep their sanity. Yes always good to get actual mail so much my personal and no matter what someone in there could always use a few extra dollars that means for a few days or whatever they wouldn't have to huddle and risk solitaire ..but one thing I will say don't make sending money a habit cause once you start that it will never stop that is all she will want sending for a special occasion ok but anything else I could be come a thing she asks for
