I've been doing that turn since I first saw it. Once you figure out which way to turn when your legs are crossed, it's easy and fun when pretending the hallway is a runway. Definitely not something you can do without a practice run or two, but it is doable

The turn is one of those that if Tyra just said "plant your front foot, leave your back foot behind. Turn on that front foot and keep both where they are" or something and they might have got it. If you don't get that first foot placement then you can't do it so there's no balance test!

I always worked out which model was going home by how much Jay is criticising them on set but I assumed from his general rudeness to everybody that he insults and distracts everybody (except his favourites). But they only show his comments for those going home, as a “See. They had a bad photoshoot. Look how much Jay was criticising them compared to the others,” justification.

i actually met Brooke probably 8 years ago. She was very nice. I didnt reconize her at first and said she looked like the little mermaid because she had red hair. she loved the complliment, probably because she was used to being called out for ANTM. so it was nice to make her feel complimented rather than bringing up a shitty experience with this show.

15:19 Tyra could do that twirl here thanks to her heels, high heels make it easier. If you look closely she lifted the heel of the shoe and was twirling on the outsole (the front part). It's even easier to turn around like that with platform heels, but standing on tiptoes can make it work too

Honestly, the turntable thing is not difficult if your foot placement is correct. Admittedly, they wouldn't get it right the first time but it's not impossible.

Ok, So I took a krumping class and I have a friend who does it all over the place with his dance team. There is absolutely no way these girls were going to win this photoshoot. Either they're doing their best while uncomfortable and they get called a stripper, or they will get comments like jay made in 4:26 or the facial comments made to jade in judging, which is literally a natural part of krump and the environment just brings that out of you (which is, outside of a modeling challenge, a good thing. lol)

The turn Tyra did is a simple and classic gymnastics/dance style releve turn. Since Tyra is in heels, she doesn’t need to pick the back of her feet up so it’s harder to see what’s happening. You basically just start flat then go up on your toes, then turn with your feet/ankles towards the back leg. As long as you go towards the back leg, you can turn 360° around like she did. If you turn the opposite way your knees will cross before the full turn. It does take a good amount of balance and coordination, plus the way your ankles are turned out can also affect it without heels on

if you notice, Tyra did not turn in a complete 360 she just did a 180 turn and then they expect the girls to do with 360 turn without moving their feet. It’s impossible. Also I used to practice this turn as a preteen when I used to watch the ship, the key is cross your feet over when you stop.

Unsurprising, but Tyra's advice to jut out your chin is bad for your neck and back. The human head is essentially a bowling ball balancing on the spine. Over time, that kind of posture will wear down your neck, shoulders, and back. Not a doctor, but my vocal coach helped me develop good technique by aligning my head with my spine. It helps to imagine a string on the top of your head being pulled to straighten out the body. Chin down and pulled back. This also helps open up the chest to breathe easier. Of course for models, it's not as flattering, but I highly recommend prioritizing health in that way. Like any habit, it takes practice to do it naturally. But it has helped my scoliosis (and vocal performance). Thought I'd pass on this info in case it helps someone else.

It took me three tries to get this turn. You plant your right foot just under hip width apart, behind your left foot. Then you direct the rotation with your right foot until you get to half way. At that point, you primarily use your left foot to turn the rest of the way. Wa la - smooth and just like Tyra.
